JVG And STAT - ESPN Commercial

That commercial could be symbolic of Van Gundy getting closer to his return with the Knicks.

haha did any one hear vangundy on the Michael K show on ESPN radio NY yesterday

he had valid points about the KG charlie V disaster

but he also analyzed the knicks this year

its funny when you hear vangundy talk about the knicks, he still speaks about them as if its his team, and has such passion for his analysis. He defended amare big time, in terms of amare's apparent struggles

Mike K tried to deem STAT as a second teir player

and van gundy jumped right in saying hes not as bad as your making him sound, he noted that Amare's only struggle is that teams can afford to double and triple team him every possession knowing that the rest of the knicks right now are lacking the confidence to knock down the shots when open

Van gundy was basically saying that if a player gets double and triple teamed, that isnt the sign of a second tier player, but the sign of a superstar.

This team would be very dangerous with Van Gundy. He would probably turn Anthony Randolph into a borderline All Star Level Player (a player with no discipline is not going to blossom under a coach who doesn't enforce discipline). We would have a lot of size and we would be able to defend well at all positions....too bad everyone love D'Antoni.

Don't include me in that Dantoni lovefest. I'm 100% all for a JVG return.

JVG is a far better X's and O's coach than Dantoni IMO.

How quickly we forget.

I like Van Gundy, but everybody forgets that Van Gundy's job was saved by a lucky bounce (Houston's lucky shot in Game 5). Houston's legacy, I might add, was saved too. He was infamous for disappearing at the end of games.

All the fans and media were screaming to have Van Gundy fired. Everybody said he was a terrible coach and if that shot had not fallen Van Gundy would have been fired and his legacy as a Knick coach would have been a distant memory. Come to think of it, I don't think there has been a coach on the Knicks that the fans actually supported while he was coaching the Knicks. Pat Riley maybe, but that is beyond my recollection.

Van Gundy was also never able to bring a talented Rockets team past the first round. I like Van Gundy but maybe this will make some of you think twice about judging a coach so quickly. All of you are nostalgic over the '99 team and that amazing run and that's it.

I find it funny too that a bunch of fans on a website are proclaiming to know anything about X's and O's and can judge whether or not Van Gundy was a better play caller than D'Antoni. There philosophies are different but each has/had a strength (defense vs offense).

the bottom line is..

we only seen Oantoni good with nash as his point and bad with duhon..

i seen vangundy good with ward at the point

until i c oantoni good with felton....

im not impressed

seem like all he does is give players freedom to run and shot three wheneva they want.

im tryin to find a positive... but i cant

Nah Van Gundy never really had a extra talented squad. People say in 99 we were the worst team to ever make the finals and they were probably right if you look at it objectively.

Yao and Tracy don't compliment each other as players. Only reason rocks couldn't keep going. I think people wanted to fire JVG cuz we were winning 76-72 grinder type games. And the moment it seems you aren't making the playoffs winning those types of games Front office probably sees a loss of income because casual fans find it boring.

I believe we have talent to be a GREAT defensive squad with this current roster. But we don't have the coach to enforce it. Also i don't think we have great offensive players besides Amare so we probably would be better suited with a defensive minded coach. Inconsistent offense is ok as long as you bring it defensively every night. Look at Latrell Spreewell his numbers are awful offensively but his defense and effort more than made up for it.

you think Dantoni would ever risk messing that moustache if there was a bench clearing brawl and headbutt on MLK Day? at least he had the balls to call MJ a con artist.

JVG was a defensive specialist. D'atoni an offensive specialist. Could you imagine JVG on this team as a defensive assistant coach? teaching turiaf and co. how to play d in the paint like pat ewing? it would be amazing!

I'll give JVG the lead over d'antoni in X's and O's for taking an under talented team to the finals, while d'antoni had a very talented team but never quite got there.

I remember people screaming for JVG to be fired, but that is just life as the head coach of the knicks. I'm pretty sure if we won it all this year there would STILL be people on this forum calling for d'antoni to be fired. Always gonna be that way in certain markets.
