11/14 Rockets vs Knicks Game Thread

Mason was in for his defense.

How hard is it to forbid the players from shooting 3s for a game? How about a half? A quarter?

Already 1-9. NOt only are they lost possessions, but they usually come at the worst times (normally when opponent is building a lead).

It's like they try to make up for mistakes and get 6 points a possession by chucking a quick 3.

You would think after 4 staright losses, coach would prohibit anyone from taking a 3 and forcing them to earn high percentage shots.

Guess not.

What defence!? He was in for his shooting by the looks of it, and goes 1-4.

I don't like the Wilson Chandler vs Scola matchup at all. He's getting killed.. Nice finish to the half.

STAT can score at will.... Why are we bothering to chuck up 3s? STAT had 12 points in 1st quarter and we barely go to him the rest of the half.

I don't need to see Douglas take 7 shots in 5 minutes. Please stop.

Randolp and Gallo played well, Chandler looks lost again.

This is going to be tough. I sense another 4th quarter collapse.

As usual, we'll live/die by the 3.

You know, I hate to say it but...

I think Douglas is the problem.

I think Douglas needs to realize that he can't keep chucking 3's and try to change the game. I think the fact that he had those amazing first few games of the season is getting to his head and he thinks that his shot will always be falling like it was then.

Well, newsflash, it won't be, and if Douglas had passed to someone else instead of shooting 1-7 (1-5 from 3) then the game would probably be tied.

And I feel bad for Anthony Randolph - I want the kid to get some minutes because, quite frankly, he's playing really well given the limited amount of time he gets. He grabbed 2 boards made 2 of 3 shots and blocked a shot all in the span of 6:30....

Yep. STAT can learn some post moves from Scola. He's slow, deliberate and patient. STAT's already taken on 3 defenders on 3 separate occasions for 1 point on a FT.

mafra, I agree entirely.

I know D'Antoni's system lives on the 3 and having a bunch of good 3 point shooters. And we do.

But there are some nights (like this one) where the shots won't fall, and instead of just shooting MORE (*cough*Douglas*cough*) we need to drive to the basket more often.

STAT has played well tonight, Gallo has done just that (he's only taken one 3 and he's been trying to go inside which is really good), Fields had a nice dunk...but Douglas 1-7 and Mason 1-4 really kills us. Imagine if we had taken slightly better shots on those and instead of 2-11 made 5-11 or even 4-11. We'd be tied, or even WINNING with better shot selection...come on.

None of the 16 points that Amar'e has scored is providing any rhythm to the offense. He thinks he is Lebron or something forcing way too may shoots in traffic. Felton is just a horrible pick and roll point guard, I don't like how he runs our offense. Damn, when is this team going to click?

This is the 10th game of the season, and my evaluation of Felton dont look good at all. Felton is best use as a backup PG with little to no creative ability on offense with his teammates. Im going to put detail to his playmaking skills when he start the 3rd quarter.
How come Felton cant work some passes to our slashers or above the rim players Fields/Chandler/and Amare? This is the start of the season, Felton should always have 6 to 7 assist before halftime with various new moves with a different teammate each game. Felton is not bringing his teammates into the offense.

Mason taking 4 shots in 5 minutes is a problem. Is our boy Billy Walker in the doghouse? Let the man play. He has good potential, showed solid work ethic this offseason, battled through a would-be career ending injury, and is 10000 more proven as a Knick who can ball it up than Mason.

And agree 100% about Douglas' first few sensational games. Got to his head. Now he needs to adjust, but not lose his edge. Like a young hitter in baseball, who falls in love w the HR after a good, flashy streak, and then suddenly it's a month later and he's racking up K's with a basement ba.

Time to feed STAT the ball, let Chandler get his head straight, keep Fields in along with Gallo as 2nd option to STAT.

Felton is all Walsh/D'ant talent evaluation of him, and the team. D'ant supposedly knows Amare better than anyone, is a "PG's coach"....And we signed after Amare came aboard.

Felton, Ridnour, Livingston...there was one other option on par with Ridnour, too. All lacked the "potential" and "range" of Felton, however. Though they were certainly more notorious for being P&N, role playing specialists.

how does that Tracy McGrady last year trade look now?

To me, this is/was Walsh's biggest mistake. The moment you hire D'antoni... your 1st move should be to get him the PG of the future.

Draft Eric Gordon. Trade up for Westbrook. OK. You signed Duhon and thought he would be stop gap, but when he flopped you had to trade up for Curry or settle on Jennings or Lawson.

3 years into MD's reign and we'll still trying to get by with stopgap options. MD's system needs a QB to run it. His stint in DENVER showed have proven that.

When will we get this PG? Wont be this SUmmer, b/c Melo is the target.

So, we're talking about YEAR FIVE when Walsh plans on getting this PG?

The misses our compounded when you take into account when they usually come. Again, we try to make up for mistakes and stop momemtum swings with ill-advised shots.

Gallo misses awkward shot in paint and HOU drains a three. We just took the lead, anf then POOF... Here comes this 4-point swing.

What happens next? STAT forces a 3 from the corner.... NOw HOU pushes lead to 6.

Killer misses.

Felton is killing us right now. MIsses a layup, misses and open jumper, doesn't close on a 3-poin shooter, then misses another layup. Just like that Knicks down 9 points.

Felton-Douglas 5-21 tonight (2-10 from 3); 6 assists.

Not good enough.
