More Melo news, They want Felt&Gallo

Fundamentally Sound
Melo saying he's going to sit down and take a serious look at Denver's offer doesn't really take any leverage away from us IMO. I mean, there offering him a lot of money. Any sane, rational human being actually would sit down and listen to their pitch, and ofcourse he wants people to know that he would atleast DO said rational, sane, adult thing by sitting down w them and taking a look at the offer. That shouldn't preclude him from getting up from the the table, true desire intact (NY ofcourse), w the resolve to wait to come here if he had to. To me, Melo's not really saying anything by letting on that he'd consider the Denver offer.

On what they're asking, are they seriously facking nuts?

Donnie needs to wait and widle this thing down some. And for damn sure, if we know they want Gallo and Felton and another starter, it better facking not be Fields thrown in the deal. The frustration in me is bubbling at this point. If we give up Fields, Gallo and Felton along w the other shite they're asking it will make me ill. Fack!

I WANT THIS FACKING DEAL TO BE DONE ALREADY!. I want to know which of my players, that I've grown to really like, are going for this guy... :2cents:

I understand this is all part of the negotiation process, but this should be a done deal in my mind. Since when are Gallo and Felton untouchable pieces in the Knicks future?? Carmelo is a superstar in his prime. Mortgage the farm to get him. We are barely a .500 team at this point that cannot compete with the elite teams. Get it done donnie!!!

this...plus melo plays the same position as gallo! if we dont get rid of chandler and williams, then we'll have those 2 in the rotation with anthony..thats right

Plus Carmelo knows what happened with LeBron's PR fiasco so he's not going to be stupid and hang himself out to dry with Denver fans by saying that he wouldn't consider the extension...

we keep Fields.
They want Felt, Gallo, Curry, and a 1st.

Giving back Billups & Melo

If true what the hell is the holdup? Pull the trigger already. This is basically Felton and Gallinari for Melo and Billups. Curry and Randolph (traded for the 1st rd pick) are total non-factors for the Knicks. Throw in a couple of Knicks City Dancers for heaven sakes.

Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Ronny Turiaf, Landry Fields as a starting five is scary good.

I really don't understand you guys! If melo really is interested in the knicks he will come anyway at the end of his contract!
but why give away Gallo? he's 22 years old and improving every year! as far as we know in 2 years time he could be as good as nowitzki!

you finallly have a management that is trying to build a team, but to build a team you need TIME and good players not just one superstar!

look at miami they have 2 out of the 3 best players of the league and they're still not the best team!
look at the spurs, they made good picks in the last 2 years and they came back to win!

i think the knicks are a good young team now and they will improve every year and with some good picks and 1 or 2 big signs in the next two years they're going to start to win!

But if Melo is only looking for the money then leave him at denver where he will win nothing!

Felton is a nice player. Has heart, but let's not forget what Nelson did to him when ORL waxed CHA. RF is what he is. Not trying to run him out of town but swapping him for Billups might end up being a minor miracle. I guarantee you having Billups for the post season this year is better than having Felton. AND, on top of that, Knicks can buy out Billups for 4 mil, not pick up his team option, and have some money to spend on a C this Summer (and we can use our 1st rounder to draft a PG).

If Knicks are lucky, DEN doesn't want AR... We deal him for that 1st round pick DEN wants and we get an asset along with it.

Eddy Curry goes. Nobody cares. If a piece of cake falls at 3am and nobody is around... does anyone notice what happens when those calories enter EC's buttocks?

I think DEN then gets the choice: they get either Gallo or Fields and Walker. They'll have to pick one option. Take the budding star or the future solid starting dual role players.

I think the final piece of the puzzle will be either Chandler or Walker.

I realize this is alot. But NYK has no choice really. Amar'e is a STAR. Right now. We saw firsthand during the Ewing era the error of our ways (waiting to get another star to play alongside PE).

LAL, BOS & MIA blew up their rosters... NYK has to. NBA is a game where you must have 2 superstars playing at an elite level to have a shot. Felton-Gallo-Chandler or not elite. Night consistently at least. And I doubt Gallo-Chandler will be a STAR player, night in and night out, next eyar or even they year after. NYK cannot afford to gamble everything on that timeline getting pushed up. Amar'e is elite right now. HE HAS MADE THE PLAY OF EVERYONE AROUND HIM BETTER. Imagine what role players will do when 'Melo arives. hey will thrive.

The parts we place around Amar'e-Melo will be assembled one way or another. We have a first rounder this year. We will keep either Galo or Chandler. We will have some cap flexibility if we let Billups walk.

It will stink if Gallo is a stud in 5 years. But it would be a total shame if Stoudemire's MVP caliber production goes for naught, and 2 years from now he starts to decline some and we failed to bring in the encessary pieces.

Sure, 25% chance Gallo-Chandler and free agents, along with Moz-Fields mature into a legit DET-like run starting next year. But odds are the Knicks will be a 45-50 win team next season with this group + B-type free agents. And would fail to beat MIA anyway.

Our only hope is Carmelo really. MIA raised the stakes. Sure, we could pass and go through the same thing next year. Hope to get Paul or Williams. And that might even be better.... But, since we missed on Lebron, and then if we pass on Carmelo... what happens if we fail to land Deron or Paul... or if a tag is put in place... Now it's 2013 and Amar'e is the new Benard King.

I don't agree that Billups would be better than Felton just because he is aging, his stats are declining and I don't think he would survive in the Knicks system. Everything else you said though I agree with 100 percent.

I just look at what Billups has done in the playoffs, and then compare that to Felton. Nelson humiliated Felton last year. I think for 1 month... Billups and his experience and penchant for hitting big shots... I think this would be just as good, if not more valuable, than what Felton would offer.

PLUS, Knicks can buy him out and look for another PG, or use the money elsewhere and draft a PG in the first round.

I would prefer to keep Felton, of course. I just don't think it's a dealbreaker.

In essence, if I told you last Summer we could get Carmelo and Billups for Gallinari and a 2nd round pick (assuming we trade Gallo, Felton, Fields)... who wouldn't make that trade? After all, Fields-Felton-Randolph were not on the team last year.

It stinks to be forced to pay... and maybe pay through the nose... But Knicks have to get Carmelo, Deron or Paul. The moment the opportunity presents itself to grab one... DO IT. Or else sit back and watch MIA dominate the Eastern Conf.

i understand your point of view but i think GM has to do what he thinks is best for the team despite the pressure that fans can give.

still some things i don't understand though... melo is a superstar but what would he bring to the knicks? he's a scorer, but the knicks are allready one of the most offensive teams. he's not a great defender or assist man or rebounder.

i think the knicks would be better with howard and paul in 2 years

howard
stat
gallo
fields
paul

sure contender

stat
melo
chandler
fields
billups

no chance!

IMO Gallo has a good chance of becoming a star and i would do anything to try and get Melo without giving him up, not just because of his talent, but also because he has heart and balls! Is it a coincedence he is allways one of the best when there is a big game?
i rather give away fields or chandler!

but to be honest i don't like whats going on here...round 6th pick 3 years ago was boooood, then they loved him and now because you can get melo yoou want to get rid of him straight away!

i belive in passion over money! is melo wants really the knicks you will see him in 6 months

First of all, Carmelo Anthony is perhaps the best scoring SF in the NBA. And one of the strongest. Lebron James is the best SF, but Carmelo is locked in as #2.

Forget the fact that he carried Syracuse to a title his freshman year. Giving Boeheim is first title. Let's look at Carmelo's AVG in the post season shall we: 24.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 3.0 apg. What's wrong with this line?

Really? Is Gallo the better rebounder? Has better court vision? Is the better dribbler? Passer? HANDS DOWN, Carmelo is better, quicker, stronger in every area of the game sans 3-point range.

Against the Lakers in 2009... when series was tied 2-2... Carmelo averaged 27.5 ppg. That was lowered b/c he scored 15 in one game (when DEN won). He was practically unstoppable.

What Carmelo is... UNGUARDABLE. He's also a great finisher. Carmelo-Amar'e would give opponents fits defensively. I guarantee you Danillon Gallinari will not even be on the level two tiers below Carmelo for the next 2 seasons.

Carmelo is also strong as a bull.

Take Kobe and send him to DEN (no sex jokes plz... lol), and put Carmelo in LA, with Gasol and Odom... And He wins the last 2 titles and Kobe barely wins a playoff game. Does anybody forget what Kobe did in between Shaq & Gasol? Lakers missed the playoffs one year!

Carmelo is playing with JR Smith and Kenyon Martin. NO wonder why he doesn't pass.

We can say that we may have to give up too much. We can boast that we believe in the future potential of Fields, Chandler, Gallo, Mozgov. That's fine. BUT PLEASE let's stop with the nonsense that Carmelo is a top 10 player, or that he wouldn't fit, or that he doesn't do the little things, or he wont make us better. That's just plain bunk. People felt the same about Stoudemire, claiming he was good b/c of Nash. STOP IT.

Amar'e and Carmelo would be a dream.

Not to take anything away from Danillo, and as a NYK fan I have been rooting for him. But people are insane if they would bet on his future over Carmelo's present. It's not like Anthony is old either. One is 26 and the other 22. Gallo might be younger, but with that back of his... a bigger risk.

Here's all you need to know: The Nuggets were 17-65 the year before Carmelo arrived. They went 43-39 his rooke year and made the playoffs (in the Western Confernce nonetheless). In his 3rd year, playing with Stoudemire and Felton... Gallo is barely the 3rd option on a team that is on pace to win 41 games.

Melo/Chandler

If Melo comes in an extend a trade, Chandler is gone whether or not he is part of the trade. Melo and Amar'e will eat up almost $40M of cap space. We will not be able to afford Chandler who will be an unrestricted free agent.

As a practical matter you must assume the loss of Chandler if Melo comes in an extend and trade. Denver is thus effectively demanding 4 starters -- Gallo, Felton, Chandler and Mozgov or Fields. That offer is easy to reject. And even if we get Melo as a free agent, Chandler is almost certainly gone. He will simply cost too much in cap flexibility.

I am not a Felton fan, so I am not concerned if he goes. If there is going to be a deal with Denver, Chandler has to be substituted for one of the other names put forward. Of those other three, though I love Fields, I would want to keep Gallo. He has more of an upside and more of future trade value.

Let Melo pay a little to come to New York. Signing "stars" was our downfall in the past. We need to build a team. Amar'e and Melo would be a magnificent start, but it is not enough to challenge the real cream in the league.

I posit that Carmelo and Stoudemire gets us closer to being able to challenge the real cream in the league than staying the course we're on right now.

I think we get the deal done keeping either Fields or Gallinari anyway.

Knicks haven't signed stars in the past. That's been their problem. They've settle for lesser talent.

Hey, it might work out. Keep the kids. SIgn a center and role player piece... 25% chance Gallo turns into a #2 option. But reality is Gallo is hardly a #2 option right now, and chnaces are he wont be even a second option until 2013 anyway. Byt then, Stoudemire starts his decline.

If we get Anthony... 75% odds... DOUBLE THE ODDS... Knicks are closer to where they need to be.

Gallo-Stoudemire-Felton will not beat LJ-Wade. Anthony-Amar'e gets us into the ring. We'll find role players soon enough.

I agree.

I love Gallo's game more than anyone but Carmelo Anthony is a different level of player. Carmelo is the type of player who can single-handedly win games.

That being said if we could somehow keep Gallo that'd be awesome. I'd gladly trade Chandler + Fields + Randolph + Curry for Carmelo.

But Gallo could be a #2 option in a few years.

Carmelo is a #1 on any team in the league.

still don't think that you would be a winning team with carmelo! you would win 10/15 games more but not a real contender next year!

If you see us winning 10/15 games more with Melo than why not do the trade? Obviouslly if the Knicks win 10/15 more games that means that they are an improved Team with him even though maybe not a contender yet. Also 10/15 games better in the NBA is a major difference with all the pitiful records in the 7th and 8th slots of the east.

we could give up galo and chandler and still have williams to relieve anthony

We can find an SG if we have to. Gallinari has a much higher ceiling than Fields does.

Don't forget if we get a superstar like Carmelo we can sign roleplayers at discounted cost because they'll come for a chance to win a championship.

Williams is a solid 3-point specialist but I don't see him as a consistently reliable scoring option off the bench. I dunno, just my hunches.

of course that you would be a better team with melo insted of gallo! but you wouldn't be a winning team!
you would be like orlando or oklahoma!
thats why i say you can get melo but without killing this young team you have now !
gallo can became a great player and fields a solid one!
i still say you need a team to win not just stars!
lebron is the best and still diden't win in cleveland because he was alone and even now miami for me are not the best team!
create a solid team where you can add stars and you make a winning team! if you destroy the team for the stars every player playing in that team is going to think he's the next sacrifice for the next star!
