For what we know now trade lee for Azzy Randolph and Turiaf was a great idea?

New New York

Quiet Storm
Randolph's and Tariaf's ability block shots and rebound almost makes this an even trade as far as I'm concerned. David rebounds and scores but thats about it!

Yes statistically speaking Lee wouldve grabbed boards thus complementing Amare nicely....but the two of them would represent the shortest and worst defensive front court in the league!

Plus you throw in the fact that we got a legit Center in Mozgov than Lee and Amare really wouldve made little sense.

My question is not should we have kept Lee, but rather is there something better we couldve gotten for him?

We'll never know I suppose.

Yet and still I like Randolph (made a thread about it) and I think if Azzy returns by December and is ready he fills a void nicely for us.

in other words....The Jury is still out on this one

Cap space, Warriors 2012 2nd round pic, Azzy not getting on the floor yet and Randolph still having upside leaves this an open question.

Wasn't really a trade anyway, more a FA signing and a SnT to get DLee his 6 year deal with the Warriors. Glad we got something back for DLee because we could have lost him for nothing.

I don't think so...
Lee could play with Amare and would have helped us with rebounds

So we pay Lee another 13 million per year for just more offense and rebounds? And no defense.

We need defense and rebounding...we should just look for a rebounding big man who can run the floor

Why David Lee is dead to me

Hey everyone David Lee is gone. I thank him for being an overachiever and a hard worker and wish him the very best in Golden State. For those of you who can't let go and or criticize the David Lee Trade I will simplify it for you.

1. David Lee is not worth 5 years/60 Million as his stats were inflated by our system, and he was the "best" player on an awful team. He is OVERRATED much like Devin Harris of the Nets who was part of the same Dynamic.

2. A Front Court of David Lee and Amare would be a disaster as both are PF with relatively weak defense and shot blocking ability, therefore if you had to choose Amare is head and shoulders above Lee and thus Lee was no longer needed.

3. Since we were not signing Lee anyways getting back 2 bench players and a reasonable prospect trade piece in AR is a whole lot better than nothing.

4. The contracts of the three Golden State players are very cap friendly and in AR's case gives us a trading chip to trade for and/or sign Melo, Paul and Deron in future. Remember if Lee was still here instead of Amare we would not have players like Melo and Paul begging to come here.

No question David Lee is a starter and a decent player but he was the last guy to make the All-Star Team. I also consider him to be better than AR, Azzy and Turaf combined. However, if you take into account all the advantages of trading him you will see that the Knicks got more "real value" out of this than the warriors. Virtually trading Lee and Gallo for Melo would be a steal.

You are absolutely right.....if it happened:peace:

Eh, we'd still have been better defensively and we haven't exactly been getting a lot of rebounds. We'd still have a good amount of money even with both of them, right? I dunno, it seems it would have been worth keeping/being to loyal Lee, but I'm happy that Amar'e has been great and working hard so I've moved on. I'd loved to see Lee in the Knicks uniform again.

David Lee was a Keeper for the 2010-11 season

Reading the above of some members comments make me leary of
their b.ball IQ of team performance.

David Lee was a Knick-KEEPER......especially in the Big Apple.
Lee was our best complimentary bigman since having Bill Cartwright.
Lee made all his bigmen teammates performance better.
A Knicks starting frontcourt lineup of F/C-Lee, F/C-Amare, and SF-Chandler,
wouldve been 10 times better than Phoenix frontcourt lineup of "Lopez or
Frye, Amare, Hill" in a running uptempo offense, and halfcourt offense.
Rookie Mozgov skills/talent coming off the bench to play with Amare or Lee
would become refine quicker to the NBA level of b.ball.

David Lee performance was outstanding on the Knicks the first day he put
on a Knick Jersey "Lee was consistent". There was not a team in the league
that could stop Lee's hustling talent from getting a 8 pts, 8 rbds, 2 ast,
performance in 24 minutes of playingtime during Lee's first two seasons in the NBA.
So only a nitwit or person who did not witness Lee's first 3 seasons as a
Knick would believe Dantoni's coaching excelled David Lee performance.
Dantoni's so-call system stagnated David Lee's performance.
PF-David Lee will give u WINS rather than stats if u put a center or PF in the
same lineup with him, which Dantoni refuse to do for 2 straight seasons.
Carmelo knows that Harrington is a SF.....

The first thing Knick-Fans shouldve realized about David Lee was that he
wanted to stay a Knick. David Lee wouldve excepted $7M to $9M per to
stay in New York. It was Donnie Walsh and Dantoni wanting to trade David
Lee for some stupid...ss or foolish "2010-Plan" which forced David Lee and his
agents hand into going to the media to announce Lee will test the FA waters
at $10+M per (Pure Bussiness) to stop any trade offers Walsh make to the
next team involving David Lee.
Recall :gony:
New York Fans turned on coach Larry Brown when he took rookie David Lee
out of the rotation, coach Brown put David Lee in the starting lineup for 8
straight games to win 6 straight games out of 8 the first week of January
(then DNP Lee for the remainder of the 2005-6 season).
David Lee became a Fan-Favorite at the start of his 2nd season by winning
the MVP of the Rookie All-Star game, plus putting the Knicks into the playoff
race, before catching a season injury.

Only a FOOL with very little NBA knowledge would think or believe that three
throw away GSW players (Turiaf/Randolph/Azu) could equal-up to David Lee's
complimetary performance in the frontcourt.
Donnie Walsh only had 4 players under contract, he gave Amare $20M per,
and Felton $5.5M per contracts which only gave the Knicks 6 players under
contract on July 9, 2010.
Donnie Walsh panic......it look like our St. Johns star the ex-GM of GSW Chris
Mullin working under Walsh co-signed the talent of 3 players (throw away)
from the GSW to add to our Knick roster to make it 9 players under
contract on July 15th, 2010.
The Knicks resigning Lee before the Bulls/Nets/Wolves offered him $12M to
$14M contract had Walsh in a panic of losing Lee for nothing. Its bad b/c
that was Walsh intention with his "2010-Plan" getting the next team top FA
for nothing. Doing to others what u dont want them to do to u WTF.
It looks like NBA teams and NBA Players cut Donnie Walsh off in the 2010
FA offseason.
:smokin: :gony: :smokin:
David Lee was more of a Keeper for the 2010-11 season than
Donnie Walsh/Dantoni

i have no problem with going with stat over lee... lee on a good team isn't a 20/10 guy... he's a good guy gives 150 percent all the time and will be a good player on a good team.. just not great... stat is a franchise player if healthy and a good fit to what the knicks are trying to do... that said i don't think we got enough for lee... we should have got a solid scorer that can keep the pressure off of stat... we didn't do it and its going to show up in the win column. if you look back over walsh's career he likes long players that are kind of freaky and thats exactly what he got in randolph. whats's with the 6'10 7'0 small forwards??? melo is a small forward, koby is a small forward, roy is a small forward, rudy gay is a small forward, not frikn anthony randolph we need a shooter on this team bad... and should have traded lee for a shooter

Kelena is a complete player, unlike Lee. He was more than worth it.

Please go watch his games. I like him better then AR.

I was (and still am) a Huge fan of D Lee the only way you can look back on that trade as not being the greatest is the fact that we didn't land Le Punk. Other than that no it wasn't a fail.

Randolph will either develop into something good or be traded for something better (player/draft pick???)

Ronnie is a sparkplug off the bench that can play defense in the post and play a vital role off the bench

Azabuke is a player we are all sleeping on because when healthy this guy is a very good player , good 3 pt %, good defender, good size.

And as for Lee and Amare playing together I'll have to dis agree again.... There both PF's! and then where does Mozzy fit in? Start Lee over Moz as C? No I don't think so.

All 3 players put together did not reach the high potential of Bill Cartwright
and David Lee's team complimentary services.
I do not see the GSW trading Lee or Stephen Curry throughout their contracts.
Lee brings hustle, pick/screening, and a passing-game to the GSW frontcourt.
Curry brings inside/outside creativeness, movement with or without the ball,
quickness, and a high IQ of passing in the backcourt.

And as for Lee and Amare playing together I'll have to dis agree again.... There both PF's! and then where does Mozzy fit in? Start Lee over Moz as C? No I don't think so.

There is something I did learn about Amare career in the NBA, Amare best
seasons is when he have alot of talented Fowards on his team and in the
lineup with him. Amare played practically all his career as Phoenix center.
Amare had a great rookie season playing alongside of PF-Chambers and PF-
Marion. Amare looked lost with Shaq. PF-Channing-Frye averaged a little
over 26 mpg with Amare.

Starting Amare & Lee wouldve allowed Dantoni to start Gallo at the SF.
Both (2) PF experience wouldve tandem-up easy to cover every defensive-
rebound on the glass to give the majority of our opponents one-shot on
offense, both have a high rate of accurate passes after grabbing a rebound,
both will score under the basket, both are uptempo bigmen, plus Lee being
ambidextrous helps out big as a starter in the paint with Amare.
Mozgov is a ROOKIE when compared to all the NBA actors we have in the
league, Mozgov will be splendid coming off the bench, and probably be
a decent finisher by the end of the season (youll see).
This preseason Mozgov/Amare got outrebounded by every team ......:crossfingers:
Amare & Lee wouldve worked much better than lastseason Amare/Lopez
and Amare/Frye.

u are mentioning a player that had surgery on a TLC, been rehabing for over
8 months with no jumping allowed. A tear like that usually takes 18 months to
heal on a young player.
I dont see Azu playing 80% of his past potential untill the 2011-12 season.
This is why the Knicks-media kept hyping up Anthony Randolph all offseason.

The Knicks used the Lee trade to full our empty roster with 3 bench players.
Recall, Lee and his agent spent extra time in Minesota to work a deal with
the Knicks in early July (Al Jefferson).
