Bucks decline Alexander's 2010 option. 2008 8th pick a free agent. Knicks like him.

"After drafting forward Joe Alexander(notes) with the eighth overall choice in the 2008 NBA draft, the Milwaukee Bucks will make him the highest pick ever to have his rookie contract option declined, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Friday.

....

Before the 2008 draft, Alexander, 22, was considered something of a long-term prospect. He had grown up in China and had played little structured basketball prior to earning a scholarship to West Virginia. He blossomed in his junior season at WVU, had a great Big East and NCAA tournament and moved up the draft lists with several impressive workouts.

To be fair, Hammond wasn’t the only GM high on Alexander. The Knicks nearly selected Alexander with the sixth overall pick, before settling on Italian Danilo Gallinari(notes). New Jersey GM Rod Thorn also considered moving up to take him, but certainly doesn’t regret that Brook Lopez(notes) dropped to his Nets with the 10th pick."

NOW.... NOT SURE OF THE VALIDITY OF THIS ASSERTION BECAUSE I ALSO SAW THIS TODAY:

"D'Antoni sometimes acts as Gallinari's personal publicist, perhaps to compensate for convincing team president Donnie Walsh to select the Milan import at No. 6 in the 2008 draft over Clippers potential All-Star Eric Gordon, who played in college in Walsh's backyard at Indiana."

BUT.... IT MAKES YOU WONDER.... WOULD/WILL THE KNICKS TAKE A GAMBLE OF ALEXANDER IF HE IS A FREE AGENT? OBVIOUSLY ONLY IF IT WAS LOW RISK AND CHEAP, AND OBVIOUSLY IT WOULDN:T BE A MAJOR MOVE. BUT.... WORTH THE RISK?

At least Jordan Hill wont be the worst #8 pick in the last few years.

Still, with Chandler, Gallinari, Douglas, Hill, Darko (and perhaps Alexander)..... hmmmm.

Do you let Harrington walk and replace him with this guy? Of course, only if you sign Lebron James and David Lee!

Get Tyrus Thomas instead, the Bulls won't extend his contract.
Get rid of some trash and get some good young players.

Pros: He is very athletic and young so he would fit right in.
should be cheap
is better than Jeffries and Landry who might be gone by 2010

Con: he is another bench player and will probably take a couple years to develop.
He can't replace Harrington...he is not even close in ability. Harrington can be an offensive threat and carry this team if he gets hot...Alexander is a young athletic prospect that needs to get his feet wet and is a bench player.

I've got no problem bringing him in next year if we do it cheap...Wouldn't expect much out of him though, best case, he'd be a decent backup for Lee...
