TYPE-A
As tired and discussed as this topic was, something tells me Mike D'Antoni's days are numbered. (This isn't based on my opinion of his system or anything)
So far I've heard it from:
Various NBA analysts
Stephen A. Smith
Barkley
The New York Papers (Post & Times)
Just heard it from Mike & Mike (ESPN)
They keep reiterating the same points we discuss (to no end).
*Mike's teams don't rebound and defend
*He had a better cast that fell short in PHX
*A better PG will make us PHX east
*That Melo & Amare work when throwing the playbook out the window
*That if we get swept in this years playoffs or don't put up a fight and win at least 1 to 2 games, he will be replaced
*The longest he has is until the end of next season
*His issues are the stubborness and unwillingness to concede his system can't work in the playoffs
*That in the media, coaches and players say the right (politically correct) things- but behind closed doors there are grumblings
I know, there are many threads. I'll add a survey to this. Let's discuss, who are real viable options, do you believe this, and what can Mike do to save his job.
My instincts tell me the writing is on the wall.
BTW, I've heard that Mike was either jealous or vindictive when Melo got here and has purposely benched him in favor of his system and players.
This is based on being up using iso's and seeing D'Antoni bench Melo fr long (needed) stretches, and the fact its obvious Stat is tired but is getting more minutes.
Also that when we began this part of our journey we were winning even with Douglas, but coach insisted on not practicing and doing things his way, thus mucking up the litle chemistry we had.
Some of that makes sense to me. We were looking better when the trade went down, even with Douglas.
