Go 1990s New York Knicks!
Do you guys think that Curry and Randolph will be a huge factor while playing together on the court, and do you think they can coexist in NY together? I do. Two big man, I am very pleased.

Next season, keep waiting
Happy Days! This is the best thing that could realistically happen. Francis is gone gone gone! I feel like break dancing. Yea I think they can coexist but I also thing that Randolph could be trade bait for Garnett. All and all, we have a more solid line up that is also more attractive to other teams. There are still trades to be made if necessary.

My thoughts exactly...
Some people are saying that this is a bad trade because Randolph plays no D etc....but he is a much more attractive trade asset than Francis!

Most teams know that they need a low post scorer to do damage in the playoffs - and Zach is that man.

The nets wanted to give up RJ and pick for Randolph a few days....

Either way, if he and curry can't coexist - he can be easily traded for someone substantial.

I also believe that Isiah has another trade up his sleeve.

By the way - I LOVE the pickup of Nichols by Isiah!!
This dude is one serious 3pt threat....a lights out shooter from 3

Would you take Richard Jefferson and a pick for Randolph?

If I realize that Curry and Zach cannot coexist -
Of course that would be a no brainer!
I hate RJ the person but his game is nice although it has been hampered by the arrival of Carter.
Before Carter arrived
RJ was averaging 22pts, 7rebs and 4 asts a game.

Plus the nets first rd pick? - what was it #17?

By the way - the Por/NJ deal was set to go down but Isiah upstaged them.

I hope Isiah made sure he had another deal in place before making this trade. I am not a Zeke "nuthugger" as some in this forum refer to people who genuinely believe that Isiah has a plan, but I do think Zeke for the most part has made moves in order to make the knicks down the road. Picking up Randolph only makes the Knicks better if they trade Randolph. He doesn't compliment Curry, he doesn't do anything that Curry doesn't do, it's not as if he's going to go start blocking shots all of a sudden or hitting 15-20 foot jumpers. PLUS he has 4 more years to go on his contract. This is not to say Zach Randolph isn't good... but this is not what the knicks NEED!! but with all that being said, I do believe that Isiah has something else cooked up in the back of his mind, I just hope he makes it happen quick

and to add a P.S.

It was brilliant however of him to be able to trade Steve Francis, but then he added more to the cap... which is shameful. Make it up Isiah

Yeah so the Blazers declined RJ and a pick....

Like you said in some other thread, I am also happy that we got that young guy Demetris Nichols, and we got rid of Francis.

So now our starting line up should be

Eddy Curry
Zach Randolph
David Lee
Jamal Crawford
Stephon Marbury

If Q spends a lot of time out of the line up because of injuries (which is very likely), the addition of Randolph hurts in some ways because the Knicks will have even less outside shooting. He's a much better player than Frye (so far at least), but Frye could at least knock down a mid range jumper.

The Knicks desperately needed a "3" that can shoot from outside because Q is no lock to be playing let alone be playing well. That way they can feed the ball to Curry who can then dish it out when the double or triple team comes.

Now they have 2 post up guys and no one to feed the ball out to.

Plus, since Randolph and Lee play the same position, Lee is not going to get as much playing time as he would have.

I don't hate this trade because the Knicks are a better team talent wise now and they got rid of Francis, but what they really needed was a Randolph quality 3.

Then the lineup would allow Lee to flourish and we'd have an outside shooting star giving us other offensive options. Q of the bench would be perfect.

man the knicks pretty much replaced channing frye for zach randolph, im glad this trade went down, i hated the fact that channing was so 1 dimensional and if his jumpshot was off, this guy wouldnt do anything else to help, he would also stop ball movement by faking a pass just for em to shoot, also zach randolph has a perimeter game, also this isnt a big deal but fred jones is in his final year of his contract(maybe see a trade coming)

Right now I think it was a bad trade. I dont think that Randolph and curry average 1 block per game combined. Both of them play no defense. On offense, no ones stoppin the knicks down low. On defense, the knicks aint stoppin anyone down low. They needed a shot blocker real bad but instead they got another guy who doesnt know how to spell defense. If randolph was aquired to be used in another deal, it was a good trade, but with the knicks roster beiing what it is right now, they could never win a championship. Theyll be a good team that makes the playoffs and maybe even a 2nd round team but i cant see them goin any farther then that becasue of the absence of defense.

I like this move...Zach is money in the paint...especially in the East!! I like his value and feel that if he stays on good behavior sucess will follow! Value is important if we should trade him during the season..well see

Maybe i'm blind.. But I still don't see how adding Randolph makes the Knicks a better team. As I have stated previously, NY fans are so fickle. The fact of the matter is, if this trade was done last season, people would have been up in arms. Channing Frye was on the all rookie first team last year , i wasn't hearing anyone talking about him being one demensional then. You guys are missing the main point... there are two guys on this team that score 20ppg and both of them score those 20ppg in the paint. do you understand that there is only one ball to go around. The greatest offensive play caller would have a hard time figuring out how Curry and Randolph co-exist and have them both average anywhere near what they did last season. As knicklover said, if they would have recieved a Randolph quality 3, this trade would be awesome, and who knows, maybe Randolph will be sent packing soon for that quality 3 or a superstar, but I am commenting on what we have now.

Unless we trade Randolph for a high quality "3", this is what we are looking at.

When Randolph is on the bench, Lee will play power forward and Curry will be the center of the offense.

When Curry is on the bench, Lee will play power forward and Randolph will be the center of the offense.

Given that one or the other will be on the bench for 12 or so minutes per game, that gives Lee about 25 minutes per game. I'd prefer another 10 minutes, but I'm not sure if Curry, Randolph, and Lee can work well together on the court. We'll see.

It's the 20 or so minutes per game that Curry and Randolph are on the court together that we have to worry about.

Isiah has to work out a scheme where they compliment each other instead of clogging up the middle on Steph, slowing the team down, hurting the defense, and otherwise having bad chemistry.

Perhaps the key for them will be to find each other when the one with the ball gets double or triple teamed.

All in all I think this is a good trade. Frye is still a quality prospect, but Randolph is already where we were hoping Frye would eventually get in terms of quality. Frye getting there is no guarantee. He reminded me a lot of Keith Van Horn last year. There's a good player in there somewhere, but something may be missing. He didn't even seem to want the ball when it really mattered just like KVH.

Ideally though, the Knicks needed a high quality 3, not Randolph.

I agree wit u. We need 2 move Randolph 2 get a shotblocker (Camby) or a shooter (Lewis). The fact is that the Knicks are gonna make @ least 2 more trades so I think we'll be alright by Oct.

Problem is that Randolph can't be traded for at least 60 days....
I think Lee might be traded...though I hate to say it

They're all set at the 3. They got balkmen, q-rich, wilson chandler, and jared jeffries. They needed a defensive specialist who can come off the bench and back up Lee and Curry, and no not jared jeffries. Sean Williams who went to New Jerz would had been perfect.

I dont know where he got that information but for some reason I have a bad feeling that Lee will get traded. Ewing33 is onto something. I'm led to believe that either Lee or randolph will be traded. Lee proved that hes too good to be comin off the bench. Isiah is tryin to get the pieces together to make a deal for one of the top 10 players in the league, possibly being Kobe or KG.
