DALLAS (AP) - The latest game against the Dallas Mavericks showed just how bad things have gotten for the New York Knicks .

A month ago in New York, the Knicks scored the most points anybody has against Dallas this season in their fifth of six straight victories.

In the rematch Monday night, Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points to lead six players in double figures for the Mavericks in a 100-72 victory. The Knicks had their season-low in points while losing their 10th straight game, their longest losing streak in 21 years.

"I've lost before, but it's the way we're losing now that hurts," Quentin Richardson said.

"I don't enjoy this feeling," said Larry Brown, in his first Knicks season after taking Detroit to the consecutive NBA Finals. "I feel for those guys in the dressing room. We have to figure out a way to get one."

The Knicks (14-37) lost for the 16th time in 17 games. They never had a chance against the Mavericks, who avoided a losing streak.

Jason Terry had three of the Mavericks' season-high six 3-pointers in the first quarter and they quickly went ahead to stay. It was 35-25 by the end of the first after consecutive 3-pointers in a 30-second span by Keith Van Horn , both on assists from Devin Harris .

"They haven't been playing good, and we wanted to keep them down," Harris said. "We came out aggressive."

Dallas has lost only one other time since their 117-115 overtime loss in New York on Jan. 11. After losing to the Knicks, they won an NBA-best 13 in a row - one short of the franchise record - and didn't give up 100 points until a 113-104 loss at Denver on Friday night.

"That New York game kick-started a nice little streak," Nowitzki said. "Maybe we needed that Denver loss to get us going on another winning streak."

Dallas (40-11) again matched San Antonio with the best record in the Western Conference after the Spurs lost in Cleveland.

The Knicks have their first 10-game losing streak since ending the 1984-85 season with a franchise-record 12 straight losses. A couple of months later, they drafted Patrick Ewing with the first overall pick.

"We've got a lot of guys in here that are learning how to win," said Jalen Rose , who led the Knicks with 13 points. "And when you're learning that on the fly over an 82-game schedule, you're going to have some tough times."

The Knicks beat Atlanta their next game after winning over Dallas last month, but have won just once since.

New York plays its next three games at home. Wednesday night's game against Toronto will be the last before the All-Star break.

Terry, who will join Nowitzki in the NBA's 3-point Shootout during the All-Star festivities in Houston this weekend, finished with 15 points on 4-of-5 3s in only 22 minutes. He made three of those in the first 4:06 of the game.

Josh Howard had 14 points for Dallas, and Erick Dampier added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Channing Frye had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Knicks.

Rose gave the Knicks their only lead when his free throw with 4:54 left in the first quarter made it 19-18. Howard then hit a 3-pointer to put Dallas in front for good.

In the final minute of the first quarter, Harris drove the baseline and passed to Van Horn in the left corner for the first 3-pointer. On the next possession, Harris penetrated the lane then kicked out to Van Horn on the right side for another 3-pointer.

The six 3-pointers in the first quarter matched the Mavericks' mark for the most in a quarter this season. They made just two more the rest of the game, but they didn't need them.

Knicks guard Jamal Crawford didn't even dress because of a sore lower back, and Stephon Marbury missed his eighth straight game because of a bruised left shoulder. Nate Robinson took Crawford's place in the starting lineup, the NBA-high 30th different lineup used by Brown this season.

New York had 24 turnovers, including five shot-clock violations. ... The Mavericks had six 3-pointers in a quarter two other times this season, both also at home. They did it in the second quarter Jan. 14 vs. New Jersey and in the third quarter Thursday vs. Miami. ... Harris missed the Denver game with a strained left quad. ... Seldom-used DJ Mbenga had three blocked shots over the final 5:40 of the first quarter. He finished with five blocks in 15 minutes.
