Marbury to donate up to $1,000,000 to Katrina victims

07 September, 2005 by rady >> News Reports >> Archive

Stephon Marbury couldn't control himself from crying at the NBA Players Association held at the Affinia Manhattan hotel the past day. In fact he couldn't even finalize his speech and say that he is prepared to donate to the hurricane victims between $500,000 and $1,000,000. Marbury choked in tears while talking about the children that fell victims to this disaster and mentioned that he kept thinking about his own son. "I see them little kids crying, I just think about my kids, about my son," said Stephon. "You see little babies floating in the river. It's amazing. Amazing; these people are still just going. You complain about the littlest things. But we're so fortunate to breathe and walk, knowing all of this is going on."

Stephon's donation is the greatest so far. Kobe Bryant donated last week $100,000.

Allan Houston was also present at the press conference but he was much sober. "We enjoy a lot of liberties in this country, and we live very confortable, all of us, but if you look arround the world that people don't have and if we can look at it that way and say We're all one family, and everyone should do something.(...) That's why we're here."
The video of the press conference can be found here, via NBA.com.
