
Nate Robinson became the new slam dunk champion with a jam that electrified the crowds, jumping over Spud Webb, and receiving a 50 from the referees. Hakim Warrick and Josh Smith (the defending champion) were eliminated after the first round.
This year's contest wil be remembered for the three 50s and the first ever tie-braker in the Slam Dunk history. Both Robinson and Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala had a 94 in their last round.
Robinson missed most of his dunk attempts but the rules allow the competitors to keep trying untill they complete the dunk. That is why Nate Robinson needed 14 tries in the final round before getting a 47 for his 15th. Iguodala needed only two attepmts but he got a 46 from the judges, which made Nate the new Slam Dunk Champion.
Quentin Richardson, the Knick who tried to defend his title in the Three Point shoot out competition was eliminated in the first round. The contest was won by Dirk Nowitzky.
