I have not written in quite a while, things have gotten so bad that even the most die hard NYK fan such as myself can not stand to watch his beloved team anymore. So what will it take to MEANINGFULLY change the current state of affairs in NY?
7 Necessary steps to fix the Knicks
#1 Fire Isiah – the players are not playing hard for him. When you ask the team to vote in November should we allow Stephon Marbury to play after he abandoned the team and the team vote no! He ends up playing Marbury, the players no longer trust him.
#2 Do not bring in a new coach right now. We do not need to put a band aid on a major problem. Give the team to Herb Williams or Mark Aguire for the year.
#3 Bring in a real head of basketball operations such as Donnie Walsh or Ernie Grunfeld (yes bring Ernie back). Let them bring in their own coach, and give them free reign to do what is necessary.
#4 Hold onto the contracts expiring at the end of this season and next (Marbury, Rose, Jones, do not pick up the option on Mardy Collins). It is necessary to get below the cap so that the Knicks can become a better trading partner. Right now the only trades they can make are ones where they are taking back worse contracts than they are giving such as the Francis for Randolph trade.
#5 Consider trading some players that have value. I will give this to Isiah, he made some good draft picks and has a good eye for talent. However, the players he has assembled are too much alike. I love Renaldo Balkman, but he is not going to see many minutes, consider trading him for a shooter. The Knicks would be a much more dangerous team offensively if they could go outside consistently to add to their inside threats.
#6 Get a real point guard, if there were a way to get Jason Kidd for his last two years of his contract I would do it because he makes the players around him better. He would get Curry, Randolph and Crawford the ball in better places. Ok I do not think that is going to happen, but I can dream can’t I? Go after a point like Kirk Hinrich even if it might cost us a player like David Lee (the Bulls need a low post guy).
#7 Hire Patrick Ewing to coach Curry and strap a personal trainer to Curry’s butt. Pat wants to be back in NY, look at what he has done with Dwight Howard (no I am not comparing Curry to Howard, I am not that crazy).
The Knicks are a few years away from being fixed even if they start right now. However, if you look at two very solid players in Crawford and Randolph and you can improve Curry and add a player or two around them such as Hinrich they could turn into a 500 ball club in pretty short order.
