Rookie Starts, but an Old Hand Lifts the Knicks

The rookie got the start, but the night belonged to the 33-year-old journeyman.

Iman Shumpert, the Knicks’ improbably confident rookie guard, started Saturday night against the Detroit Pistons. But it was Mike Bibby’s second-quarter scoring spurt that helped break the game open as the Knicks coasted to a 103-80 victory.

The Knicks were also helped by an energized frontcourt and a newly found defensive effort as they pushed their record to 4-4. But with the Knicks, good news is almost always balanced by the bad.
