A lot of people have thought about this idea over the past week, and I must admit, the way things are going for him, he’s pretty close to becoming an all star this season.
Curry has started the 2006/2007 season with the right foot, having 3 games with at least 15 points per game and 2 games of double-doubles. Then something happened as he struggled for a couple of games managing to score under 10 against the Rockets and Nuggets and barely grabbing few rebounds. Things didn’t remain that way as Eddy re-entered in the shape he started with and after several games where he had decent nights, he became one of the top centers in the east.
Currently Eddy has set a new record with New York, as being the first Knick to have ten straight games with at least 20 ppg in the past 10 years. The record was held by Allan Houston with a streak of 9 games in 1998. The all time Knick record belongs to Patrick Ewing, with 17 consecutive games back in 1994.
SlamOnline.com started an online campaign entitled Eddy Curry for All Star meant to encourage people to vote for him although probably Shaq will get the votes and Curry will be at the mercy of the coaches. Hopefully he will get there because he sure deserves it if he continues to play like this. However, one thing that concerns me is that Eddy was blank in the games with Houston, as he couldn’t do anything to stop Yao. Or Camby.
Last time the Knicks were represented in the All Star game was in 2001 by Spree & H20.. long time ago, huh?
Let’s just see the possibilities: In case Nate Robinson wants to defend his title (that would probably NOT happen) and Quentin Richardson wants to take another shot at the 3 point shooting contest, then hell.. the Knicks might be the best represented team in Las Vegas. Our sophomores will most likely make the team and Balkman will find his spot in the rookie team too. With Eddy Curry in East team I want to know when was the last time we did so well?
After game notes:
Eddy Curry had another 20 point night against the Atlanta Hawks, including 9 rebounds as New York won their 9th game this season. Of course, it was over a Johnsonless and Childress team but what matters is that playoff hopes are still in our range.
