After Thursday`s nationally televised disaster, there are many voices in and around the NBA that have had something to say about the state of the Knicks. Magic Johnson offered a perspective in an appearance on a Steiner Sports Collectibles show airing on the YES Network.
"Their problem is getting all of the pieces to mesh together," Johnson said. "Who is going to be the leader, who is going to say: `OK, we need you to do this.` Not Isiah, I am talking about the guy on the court. Who is the extension of the coach?"
The answer was supposed to be Stephon Marbury, but he hasn`t shown the ability to be a leader and in recent troubled weeks hardly has been considered an ally of his coach.
For the Knicks, according to Johnson, the issue isn`t talent, but leadership of that talent.
"How do you take all of these talented guys and make them come out as one; blend them together and make them come out as one," Johnson said. "Then the other guys have to take that leadership and respond to it." (...)
