The first thought I had when the Knicks traded for Zach Randolph on draft night - other than, "This town ain't big enough for the Hoop Family," of course - was that Eddy Curry just became expendable.
Then I bought into the notion that two hungry low-post behemoths could co-exist on the same team. With Curry and Randolph sharing space with each other and minutes with David Lee, it seemed the trade would only make the Knicks a more potent offensive team.
And then some strange things happened on the way to 6-11, the Knicks' record after their first road victory of the season, 100-93, over the Nets last night.
Stephon Marbury flew across the country, but the inside-outside offense that Isiah Thomas was preaching all last season didn't fly back with him. At some point, Thomas decided that Marbury was the player he was going to ride this season, not Curry or Randolph. (...)
