Knicks guard Stephon Marbury was not with the team last night, remaining instead with his family to mourn the death of his father, Donald E. Marbury, who had a heart attack while watching his son play against Phoenix at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.
“First and foremost, I want to praise God for covering us and sustaining us,” Marbury said last night in a statement. “We couldn’t get through this difficult time without trusting in Him.
“On behalf of my entire family, I especially want to thank the Knicks’ fans and fans around the world for their outpouring of support, heartfelt prayers and words of encouragement.”
Marbury also thanked the New York Police Department, the state police, the Knicks and the American Diabetes Association. (...)
