The mystery of why Jason Kidd decided "Not tonight, I've got a headache" may be answered in the coming days if not hours. Officially, the Nets were saying that their All-Star point guard was suffering from a migraine while the buzz at the Meadowlands was that Kidd was staging a protest.
Either way, Kidd's absence was the best news Isiah Thomas' club has received in weeks. Without Kidd, the undermanned Nets were no match for the Knicks, who despite playing without Stephon Marbury and Eddy Curry, cruised to a 100-93 victory. The win improved the Knicks' record against Kidd and the Nets to 5-20, including a 2-19 mark in games that Kidd plays.
"I heard about that," Zach Randolph said. "Was it that bad?"
"I guess we were due," Thomas added. "It feels like we haven't beaten them in five or six years."
Marbury's availability for tomorrow's game in Philadelphia remains up in the air. The team will travel to Brooklyn this morning to attend the funeral of Marbury's father, Donald, who died Sunday night after watching his son play at Madison Square Garden. (...)
