Tantrum Costly For Randolph

Zach Randolph's nightmare first season with the Knicks got worse yesterday.

The NBA suspended him one game for throwing his headband that allegedly hit referee Tony Brothers in the foot late in the third quarter of Wednesday's loss in Sacramento. The incident in which Randolph disputed a call led to his ejection. Randolph served the suspension last night in San Antonio.

An NBA source said the league may take a harder look at Randolph's behavior because of his off-the-court legal problems, which have included an arrest on a charge of driving under the influence of marijuana in 2003. Randolph has been suspended once before by the NBA for throwing a punch at Raja Bell in 2004.

Randolph was already in a terrible mood at this morning's shootaround before he heard he was being suspended. Randolph was interviewed by NBA security Thursday night, a source said. (...)
