Zach Randolph was suspended Friday, an indignity that might not even rank among his top 10 in his short Knicks career.
Randolph was punished for throwing his headband at a referee in Wednesday night’s loss to the Sacramento Kings. He missed Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, a 97-93 Knicks loss.. The suspension will cost him $121,000 in lost salary.
The suspension thwarted Coach Isiah Thomas’s plans to reunite his original starting five. And it put another severe crimp in Randolph’s miserable first season as a Knick.
Randolph has struggled to mesh with center Eddy Curry in the frontcourt. He has been benched for long stretches when the Knicks have fallen behind. He was recently pulled from the lineup for a game. And he has been left positively dizzy by an endless string of defeats. (...)
