Our possible cap in the 2012 offseason is $44.67M in five guaranteed contracts and Toney's option. $13.33M for Paul in his starting year with Knicks and no space to sign any solid role players. Paul, Douglas, Anthony, Stoudemire, Harrellson + Balkman and Shumpert, an MLE addition and plenty of noobs, I don't see it happening. I don't think Paul would take a $6M cut in his first season and more than $30M over the lenght of his contract. We're out of play.

Fundamentally Sound
Paul doesn't want to play for either of these teams..

Our FO is just laying in the cut, hopefully.

Chris, besides of where he's going to be traded, will not extend his contract there not because of how much he loves the idea of playing with his friends, but because of some very simple calculations.

Paul is getting paid $16.359 million this season, and has a player option for next season at $17.779 million. If he were to agree to an extension on the existing contract, he would play for the $17.779 million next season, and then be eligible for a two-year extension in 2013 for $19.112 million and $20.446 million, for a total package of $74 million through the 2014-15 season. If, however, he opts out and becomes a free agent, he'd be able to sign a five-year deal with his incumbent team worth $102 million.

People, start thinking, Chris won't be playing for the Knicks, because we can't offer him anything even close to his financial demands, all what we would have offer him is a $57M four year contract starting at $13.33M a year. Let's say Paul is traded to the Celtics, he's not willing to sign an extension and becomes a free agent, then he signs with Botson a $102M five year deal starting at approximately $18.5M a year and they all don't give a stuff about getting over the cap because he's their free agent and they resigned him via Bird-exception.
