Game Preview

The Golden State Warriors are well aware that even the lowliest opponents are salivating at the chance to knock them off, and they got another reminder in the opener to a three-game trip.

After Harrison Barnes bailed them out, the Warriors will try for a better performance Sunday night against the New York Knicks.

Golden State (43-4) blew a 24-point lead in the second half Saturday against league-worst Philadelphia and looked like it might head to overtime until Barnes hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 0.2 seconds left in a 108-105 victory.

"We know every night we play is going to be the other team's best game most likely," guard Stephen Curry said. "We're disappointed in how we played but we got a win. There are going to be a lot of different situations to go through to keep winning."

The Warriors committed 23 turnovers - their most since Nov. 27 and tied for their second-most this season - but had 37 assists. They've had at least 30 assists in six consecutive games, the first team to pull off that feat since Golden State had a run of seven straight in April 1994.

"We kept our composure. We've got to learn a lesson to keep playing for 48 minutes. We only played 24 tonight," Curry said.

With Barnes' shot, the Warriors matched the 1966-67 76ers' league-best start after 47 games. That Philadelphia team won 46 of its first 50.

Golden State also remains ahead of pace on the Chicago Bulls' 72-win team in 1995-96. They were 43-5 after 48 games.

To stay ahead, the Warriors will try to improve to 11-1 in the second half of back-to-back contests. Their only loss was their first defeat this season Dec. 12 in Milwaukee, and only San Antonio's 8-0 mark is better.

The last time it visited New York, Golden State was facing a team that finished 10-31 at home. The Knicks (23-26) have already surpassed last season's win total by going 14-10 and snapped a four-game overall slide by beating Phoenix 102-84 at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

Carmelo Anthony had team highs of 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in his return from a two-game absence due to a sore knee.

Anthony sat out each of the two matchups with the Warriors last season. He was rested for a 106-92 defeat at the Garden on Feb. 7 and had suffered a season-ending knee injury before a 125-94 road loss March 14.

Golden State has won in four of its last five visits to New York, and Curry scored a career-best 54 points in the 2013 defeat. He had a more pedestrian 22 in the latest visit and 25 points and 11 assists in nearly 27 minutes in the most recent matchup.

Klay Thompson had a team-leading 27 points in 25-plus minutes in that home victory, and has a combined 77 points in his last two games. He had a season-high 45 in a 127-107 win over Dallas on Wednesday.

"They're a championship team, they really are," said Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis, who had seven points and seven rebounds in his return Friday after missing his first game of the season Thursday with an upper respiratory illness. "They're playing at an amazing level right now so it definitely won't be an easy game for us, but it's an opportunity."

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Festus Ezeli might return Sunday following a two-game absence due to an injured left knee. Andre Iguodala was rested for the first time this season Saturday.

Thanks for another great game thread, Rady.

Golden State has had a historic first half to the season, so anyone playing them and expecting anything other than a low percentage chance at winning is crazy. Still, we play tough and smart for 4 quarters and you never know what can happen.

Porzingis lasted only 90 seconds in this one before leaving the game with 2 fouls. Neither team has scored yet in the first 2 and a half minutes of the game.

Weird game. Warriors score first 7 points of the game. We score next 12 points. We lead 12 - 7 almost 8 minutes into the 1st quarter. Both teams look hung over or something.

We're down 6 at the half. We played a decent half overall, but had no answer for the times when guys like Thompson got going. The first 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter may end up deciding this game.

They're losing by 6 mostly because even though the Knicks had more shot attempts they shot a horrible 37% and the Warriors shot 62%. The boys are not getting dominated and still could win this thing,]. AA another bad game, has 1 RB and thats it, the guy does not get enough separation on his jump shot causing him to get blocked frequently or taking tough contested jumpers.

How did the Gallo / Afflalo tandem work in the first half .. I see Afflalo 0-7 are still on his 7 game shooting slump

Wow .. we are missing a lot of shots
GS are scoring easy on us

GS is unreal. You can't defend all the good shooters they have on the floor at any given time. Clyde had a description I was grasping for, watching them is like watching a video game.

We got crushed in the 2nd half by the best team in the NBA. Not sure how much analysis is needed in this one. Pretty miserable 2nd half to watch.

Our back court was crap Gallo and AA combined 5-25. Bad thing that might come out of JC injury is he turns out to be the best PG the Knicks have. I would think it's harder to trade JC now that he's injured.

3rd game in 4 nights... Playing GSW... Odds of us winning tonight are akin to a meteor landing while we are on the couch with Scarlet J, watching our winning powerball numbers being announced...

So... with that said... My in-game observations (for what they're worth):

Melo has 11 in the 1st Q... GSW only score 18 (and commit 8 or 9 turnovers)... Yet Knicks only had a 2-point lead... That was ballgame... NYK should've had a 15-20 point lead.. Knicks had, perhaps, the most harmless 14-0 run in NBA history that quarter.

Affalo was like 0-6 in the first half with 0 points. LT was a worse than a non-factor... he was hurting the Knicks.

Langston Galloway had arguably the ugliest attempt at a fastbreak layup in the history of NBa. He drove straight to rim and shied away from non-existent contact and basically airballs a layup... I hope he's aware of the fact that there isn't a rule demanding first player to cross half court with the ball in his hands to shoot the ball in under 5 seconds? Is this D'antoni speed ball again?

Man... How the Knicks compete with these guards on a nightly basis continues to amaze me.

Refs took incompetence tonight to new heights...

Anyway... GSW shred NYK defense for 37 in the 2nd Q... JG sets up DW for a 3 at the buzzer... 55-49 GSW at the half... But, clearly, NYK blew their chance to take control of this game in the 1st... There's no hope for a win tonight... Sad fact is this team will probably be satisfied to keep it a close game...

GSW has beaten NYK 20 of last 27 games... Looks like it'll be 21 of 28.

NYK start half with a lazy LG pass to nobody... Somehow AA scoops it up and then AA passes ball right to Curry.

Then, AA bricks a 7 footer and LG once again makes a mockery of a fastbreak layup attempt...

This is the 2015-2016 NYK guards. No pressure being applied, and they just get flummoxed by shadows and gremlins.

KP with a bad turnover, AA blows a layup, KP misses a bad shot... This NYK offense tough to watch tonight... Triangle is now a series of ISO shots... first person to get ball beyond half court... No passing, no movement, and everybody is bricking shots.

Meanwhile, GSW guards making it rain and NYK almost down by 20.

Warriors 9-14 so far from 3, as AA misses his 10th shot of the game.

KP abused by Green off the dribble. KP drills a 3 as Green smacks his shooting hand, during follow thru (which is or isn't a foul, depending on mood of ref at the time)... AA posts up Klay, but he dribbles ball off his leg for a turnover. I wish DF would sit this bum... His play is so embarrassing... It's like a dying animal, it's hard to watch... Instinct pleads to put the flailing thing out of its misery.

Galloway bricks a bad shot early in the shot clock. GSW shooting 60% and NYK shooting 33%... 4 to go in the 3rd...

Klay 12-15 shooting... JG chuck a bad shot early in the shot clock... Livingston would be our best G by a mile... He's the 4th G for GSW.

Refs don't call a foul on NY in the 3rd... Trying desperately to keep us close... Melo's elbow must be sore from hitting guys all night.

Knicks score 16 in the 3rd. They look absolutely gassed. No energy. AA looks like he doesn't even want to go
back in the game... I hope DF accommodates him... Play DW and The Greek Freak's bro... Down by 17...

Oh... 17 GSW turnovers... but NYK have only 8 points off those TO. Averaging less than .5 points per TO not good.

After the good start... 27-20 KNicks... GSW go on a 66-38 run and lead by 21 early 4th...

NYK go on a 9-0 run... Bench scoring is even (26 to 25)... This game is simple... GSW can't miss a 3 and NYK can't make 1 (and their SG is 14-17 shooting and ours is 2-12).

Leandro Barbosa hits the nail-in-coffin 3 with 6 left... The Brazilian has more points than AA, and he is their 6th G (after Curry, Thompson, AI, Livingston, and Rush).

Still, this game would've been competitive if AA scored 15-20 points. This loss, again, squarely on his shoulders. A complete no-show.

I can imagine there have been worse games in NBA history... But when you play 37 minutes, and you score 5 points (2-12 shooting), with 1 rebound and 2 assists... you don't attempt 1 FT and the guy you guard is 14-18 shooting (34 points)... Well, that's a miserably tough day at the office.

Not sure when I'll be listened to but when are we gonna learn? This is very simple, start Grant have Galloway back him up and give him the majority of the minutes if Grant struggles badly. There isn't really any pg we have that is playing above and beyond impacting wins and losses. We ended up waiting thinking Calderon was the factoring linchpin and now he's injured. I mean how dumb can we be.
