Game Preview-

Quote:
The New York Knicks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/nyk/;_ylt=AigqXu17nR4fkZXGI4VP8bePvLYF) will likely need strong performances against Western Conference opponents this month to stay in the playoff hunt.
The Sacramento Kings (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/sac/;_ylt=Ajf99lPArY0s_6yXB.9WhLmPvLYF) know full well how poor play against the opposing conference will hurt a team’s season.
Losers of two straight, the Knicks look to keep the banged-up Kings winless against the East on Friday night.
New York (28-39) is 7-14 after winning six of its previous seven, putting in doubt its hopes of returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The Knicks trail eighth-place Chicago as part of a crowded group of teams trying to secure the final postseason spot in the East.
With some tough matchups against West teams over the next 11 days, New York’s postseason chances might be clearer entering April. The Knicks will face New Orleans, Utah and Denver, who are all in playoff position in the West.

New York, though, begins its stretch of games against the West with the conference’s worst two clubs - league-worst Sacramento (14-54) and the Los Angeles Clippers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/lac/).
A matchup with Sacramento should help New York get back on track.
The Kings are 0-28 against the East, with just two more chances to avoid becoming the first NBA team to go winless against the other conference. They host Philadelphia on Sunday night.
New York took advantage of Kevin Martin (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3843/;_ylt=AkjkRVU6qOa9qsooyUKIteCPvLYF)’s absence on Dec. 13, beating Sacramento 114-90. Martin, the Kings’ leading scorer, missed that game due to a sore left ankle and his status for Friday’s contest is uncertain due to illness.
Martin came down with a virus and missed a 104-88 loss to Charlotte on Wednesday night. He isn’t the only Sacramento player the Knicks might be able to avoid.
Andres Nocioni (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3882/;_ylt=AmAwF99OHEVHcj0M9XPzM1KPvLYF) (quadriceps) also sat out versus the Bobcats, and Rashad McCants (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3940/) was lost late in the fourth quarter after spraining his right ankle.
McCants, who started for Martin, had 30 points before getting hurt. Still, Sacramento lost its fifth straight and fell to 4-31 on the road.
“We just have to get better production all around,” Kings coach Kenny Natt said . “We just can’t have one, two, three guys playing well and then the rest just giving in.”
New York will be without a valuable reserve of its own, with rookie Danilo Gallinari (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4468/) considering surgery on his ailing back. Gallinari, who missed most of the first 2 1/2 months of the season due to the injury, has left the team to meet with specialists in Italy and isn’t expected back until Monday.
Knicks point guard Chris Duhon (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3855/;_ylt=AidIHml9Q4L6jrPDUX0bbi6PvLYF) returned after missing two games with a sore ankle and back, going 1-for-7 and finishing with seven points off the bench in a 115-89 loss to New Jersey on Wednesday night.
Nate Robinson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3947/;_ylt=AohLMsS6WJlwHCoDczWsDRKPvLYF) remained in the starting lineup in place of Duhon. He’s averaging 25.0 points in his last five games.
New York, though, has been held under 100 points in two straight games after reaching triple figures in 26 straight contests. The Knicks went 2-for-17 from 3-point range versus the Nets and had as many turnovers (15) as assists.
“It’s very hard to point out one thing,” New York coach Mike D’Antoni said."

Nate the great had an off night against New Jersey. expect him to show that fearlessness he has and have a great game versus sacramento.

Nice Game-Thread Sly.....how will the Knicks home performance turn-out after the embarrassing home-blowout from a team in their own division with the same record? will the Knicks give the Sac-Crap-Kings their 15th win of the season in MSG?

Another home loss to a team with a worst record than us will not look good on the home-front of something that started out decent in the beginning and tearing it self apart at the end.
We gave-up 3-DNP players for Larry Hughes (props to Walsh)....however did'nt Dantoni know that Hughes is a DNP player too....or a 12 to 18 mpg player like Tim Thomas.
We do not need to see Hughes on the court alongside Duhon any more this season (check the Knicks last 10 games before the arrival of Larry Hughes).

Hint: wheres the effort....there was none vs the Nets.
A Knick-Fan would think with the return of Duhon we would see several "pick n roles" from Duhon & Lee whom mastered the pick n role this season on tougher, bigger, and better defensive teams than the Nets....but we only seen the two players run that play twice in the Nets game. Why?

Survival of the Fittest is the perfect joint since this is probably our last playoff push in a close race for the 8th spot. We're 3 games out right now and Chicago is off tonight. They play the Lakers tmw. We can still do this...

Kiyaman, Prince and G-Fly, thanks for the love (no homo). doing the game thread is fun, but takes **** loads of time.

tonights game is either going to be really entertaining or really disgusting. its all gonna depend on our Knicks. we cant lose this one. gotta give that effort. Kings might not have kevin martin (virus), and mccants is out for sure.

Good game thread, Sly.

Larry Hughes=Mickey Mouse

He sucks. He has no business being a starter in the NBA. The Knick starting lineup should be like this:

PG Robinson
SG Chandler
SF Harrington
PF Lee
C Wilcox

bench: Duhon, Nichols, Hughes, Cheikh Samb

P.S. Hughes' stats over the last 3 games:

12.3 points, 30.2&#37;fg, 28.5% 3 pt

And guys, we are back to the laughingstock of the league. Its so depressing, 8 straight losing seasons. Every year I come into the season thinkin ok, I just want the knicks to be .500 and get an 8th seed or close to it. But no this is just a horrible franchise, prob the worst in the 4 major sports right now. They are just a pathetic group. Knick fans are really good and smart fans, we dont deserve this kind of effort and ****ty team. Back to back blown out loses at home, people pay good money and spend there time watching this ridicolous team master the art of being terrible. Its really pathetic what the New York Knicks have become. Looking back at all those hard fought teams of the 90's and this franchise right now is just obsurd. I am embarrased to be a knick fan.

I know what you mean man,its been a hell of a stretch for all of us Knicks fans since about 10 years ago.It hurts watching my team be the laughing stock of the NBA every year but they can't blame nobody but them selfs b/c they got their own selfs in this mess.We can't be bad forever im just hoping we get better sooner than later b/c im tired of watch us lose every year.We deserve better!!

The Knicks belong in the WNBA.They couldn't beat a hungry group of females in a preseason tournament. It's surprising that this team hasn't had a season in which they went 0-82.I never seen a team that took so much pleasure in losing the way the knicks have.Do they go home and have fantasies about being manhandled by the other 29 teams in the league? They are better than Viagra when it comes to enhancing the performance of their opponent.I would trade the entire team for a box of fig newtons.

Rubio is overrated. Anyone who saw the Olympics knows that to be the case: he actually cost Spain the gold medal, because he was nowhere near as good as Jose Calderon. As for Griffin, I don't know who that is. If he's tall, can rebound, block and score in the post, and has a high basketball IQ, then pull the trigger.

We've had talent, as RED stated on his checklist, all we have really needed is a real center. Just look at what Hawes did to us, last night. Bottom line, WE NEED A CENTER!

Embarrassing when our team gets blowed-out at Home....twice in a row....by two teams under a .450 record.

I guess now u guys are finally witnessing what Larry Hughes brings to the Knicks....gettin blownout at home (we traded 3-DNP players for 1-DNP player)....our coach did not see this after Hughes 3rd game as a Knick???

As soon as Dantoni gave Larry Hughes 36 minutes of playingtime (his 3rd game as a Knick)....I screamed "TANKING"!!!
but no one listened.
I think Gallo listen b/c he wasted no time catching the next flight to Italy.
:teeth: "seeya, call me long-distance when u got it together".

When the Knicks win its Dantoni system....when the Knicks lose its the players....

Ricky can actually play defense, unlike Jose.
Only thing Jose is better at is shooting...Rubio will be an elite passer.

We need a superstar first.
then get some true position players(PG/C)

Then we'll be set.

I don't think you can judge him soley from his performance in the Olympics. He was 18 or 19 years old playing against guys like Kobe, Lebron, CP3, etc.

Rubio>>>>>>>>Calderon. Rubio won defensive player of the year in euroleague, and has Steve Nash like court vision. He would be the perfect PG to run this offense. Unfortunately, he'll probably go top 5.

Blake Griffin out of Oklahoma. Your description pretty much sums him up, but he's going to get drafted 1st overall most likely.

Rady, you should seriously consider banning some of these circus folk that frequent this site.

Look, JJ, Calderon is one of the best point guards in this league (the NBA), period: +18.42 EFF, 12.7 PPG, 49 FG&#37;, 40 3P%, 8.6 Assists per game.
His footspeed is unparalleled, by anyone except for maybe Tony Parker. And Rubio did not only play bad against the US Olympic team, he played bad throughout the Olympics and became a liability, in the gold medal game, turning the ball over, while trying to do trick dribbles.

Here are Rubio's stats, from the Euroleague:

<table id="ctl02_ctl00_PlayerStats_tblPlayerStats" class="PlayerStatsContainer" style="border-collapse: collapse;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td>2008-2009

</td></tr></tbody></table>
For previous years, look here:

http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=LFW

By the way, I have watched this guy in Euroleague competition, and, just like in the Olympics, he lacks jumping ability, is very slow, and just is not that good of a player. Bottom line: the guy's overrated and physically limited, regardless of age. As for Spanish league play, it's not Euroleague, which is where the best competition lies, so I'll stick with his Euroleague performance.

Just like Gallo, he's much better in his local league than in the Euroleague competition, where he'd have to face the best teams. He'll be much worse in the NBA. Euroleague is overrated, the skills are just sub-par. In my opinion, the NCAA is of more quality. If Euro was so great, we'd take their players regularly, instead of them taking our 40 year old retirees.
