Sergio Rodr?guez to Knicks

Today in yahoo.eurosport.es by Fernando Ruiz:

25 de junio de 2009. Madison Square Garden.

The article basically says that Blazers and Knicks had agreed a trade for Sergio Rodríguez 20 days ago according to sources of NYK. NYK will announce officially the trade in the draft day (June 25).
Sergio is now in Madrid training defense and shoot to be 100% in its new phase in the NBA.

If that's true it would be great, not the best PG ever but a sure upgrade over Duhon. So many rumors about Knicks and Spanish PG's (Rubio, Rodriguez, that random ACB guy..) hopefully this one turns out more than a rumor :)

He really needs to improve his shooting and turnover control.

He definitely can pass...think Jason Williams.

Curry or Holiday/Blake
Roy/Bayless
Chandler/Webster

Knicks
PG - Duhon/Rodriguez/Mills
SG - Fernandez/Hughes
SF - Gallinari/Batum/Outlaw

C - Gortat/Curry

eh...we save cap space by dumping jefferies, still get two young prospects, plus 3-4 more prospects from Portland. Portland wants Curry...who may be available at 8.

I'd be down w/ that just because I think Fernandez has Ginobli-like potential. Also, I think Outlaw would be the starter at SF over Gallo. That is quite the overhaul though and the Knicks are never going to gel if they continue to do this every year. Although, they do suck every year so it doesn't really matter.

Metrocard, that trade would never work. POR isn't that stupid to get suckered like that even if we did steal Z-Bo from them LOL

#8 pick is pretty much crapshoot if Curry gets selected before (which I believe he will...)

Chandler is a bargaining chip but enough to rob them for Rodriguez, Fernandez, Batum and 2 draft picks plus Outlaw....

*Dikembe Mutombo finger wag*

Jeffries is just a salary cap match at this point and his contract is detrimental to any and all trade proposals. He offers no interest from any team whatsoever.

I do want Rodriguez on the team though! That would be awesomeness...

Just curious to know what it takes to make that trade?
Is that Euro Sport a reliable source?

Sure we are getting Sergio Rodr?guez on the cheap side. As Portland looking to clear some cap room to sign a free agent. Would not be suprised if this is like the Balkman deal we did last year with Denver.

You should trust me, since I was right afterall about Isiah.

Rodriguez shows in this video he's the master of the pick and roll...and can pass the ball in a variety of ways.

The skill is there...he just needs to be in the right system.

I like Chandler but if we get Rodriguez we are left with a few options which will put him in the trade picture:

* Trade up to draft a big man
* Trade down for a pick + a team need, big or SG
* Stay in position where there are no good bigs and draft a SG (Harden/DeRozan)

Any trade is likely going to involve Chandler + Expiring as it's the only valuable package we can put together before draft day. That is, excluding Nate since he is most likely going to have some position in any Rodriguez trade.

It's not true:
I'm always wary of some of these reports from some European media outlets....What we have is this story from Eurosport Yahoo! that says, loosely translated, the Knicks already have a deal in place to acquire guard Sergio Rodriguez from the Trail Blazers on draft night.
The story doesn't explain any detail of the deal and is mainly about how Rodriguez, who we know is unhappy with his role in Portland, would love to play in New York. What we don't know is how he gets here with a contract that has one year left at $1.8M (perfect for the Knicks short-term, cost-effective goals) before he becomes a restricted free agent.
Updated 4:06 p.m. - After a few calls this afternoon we can say this report is inaccurate. There has been interest in Rodriguez throughout the season, but as far as there being a deal in place? No.
Is Rodriguez available? Yes. Are the Knicks interested? Depends
