Ferry to resign as Cavaliers GM

Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry is close to parting ways with the franchise less than two weeks after the dismissal of coach Mike Brown, triggering a dramatic reshaping of the team?s brain trust as it desperately tries to retain LeBron James(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Ferry?s contract ends this summer. He had said after the Cavaliers? second-round loss to the Boston Celtics that he would speak with owner Dan Gilbert to decide whether it was best for him to continue as GM. Gilbert seemed open to having him stay, but Ferry, who was disappointed about having to fire Brown, a close confidante from their days with the San Antonio Spurs, decided to leave less than a month before James becomes a free agent.

Assistant GM Chris Grant is expected to take over for Ferry.

maybe now lebron got total control of everything ... I guess the idea is to have LBJ's childhood friends be the GM and the coach. lol

I'm very curious to know what the crowd reception will be like at the Garden when he and Cleveland make their visit next season. I like how LeBron played New York and the media to make him look larger than life, and most if not all fell for it lol.

Lol, might as well throw in Mayor of Cleveland. This can only help bring Lebron to NY, the Cavs look like a sinking ship, lebron would be crazy to want to go down with the ship.

Not sure why no one is speculating him as next GM of the Knicks. Remember Donnie Walsh plans to step down as Knicks GM after this summers free agency period. Ferry would be a good replacement I think.

What led Ferry and Gilbert to break their bond seemed to be based more in the future than the past. When Ferry took the job in 2005 he walked away from the table during contract talks at one point because he wanted full personnel control and the promise no executive would be hired above him.

That same no-bend negotiating style was seen often in his tenure when it came to player contracts. Twice players took the unheard of step of holding out and missing part of the season when they couldn’t reach terms with Ferry. Other negotiations dragged out for months, whether it was free agents or for trades.
Needless to say, Ferry usually got what he wanted. He was likely pushing for that again this time around when discussing a new contract for himself.

However, he and Gilbert were on opposite sides when it came to firing Brown. Gilbert held firm that there needed to be a change and Ferry eventually came around to agree with the decision. It was clear at that point, though, that Ferry no longer had total control of top basketball decisions.
Fresh off that event, in talking about how major decisions in the future would be handled, it was clear that Ferry and Gilbert had a disconnect. That was the breakdown that is believed to have been the root of Ferry’s decision not to seek another contract.

Sorry Knick Conspirators.

Pretty much says it all here. Got to feel sorry for this douche Grant if Lebron leaves. He'll have the shittest job in the NBA along with whoever'll be playing SF for the Cavs.

This only makes Lebron going back to the Cavs more likely

Brown and Ferry gone....the only thing left is getting rid of Jamisons bad contract

If LeBron were to stay in Cleveland, it be only 3 years. Then, if will figure out that resigning in Cleveland was a big mistake and shouldve left in 2010 not 2013.

Jamison is getting old, Shaq has two more years left to retire, not even. Mo williams chokes in the playoffs, Varejao is overrated, Big Z is getting old.
