Knicks get used again: Carmelo signs long extension w/ Denver!!!!

New New York

Quiet Storm
This Sucks

It looks like last night Carmelo signed a 4 year 100 million dollar extension w/ The Nuggets. So the ol plan of using NY to scare the hell out of your current team in order to get millions more has worked again.

Once again Knick fans look like the fat kid who the supermodel tease gassed into thinking she actually liked him just to get recognition from her loser boyfriend!

All our Carmelo threads were for nothing.

Visions of a "Big 3" in NY has faded

Melo is a Nugget and always will be one and all we have is Amare who is one injury away from putting us back in the sad state of the Isiah regime, a GM who brought life back to our team just to have our Owner attempt to bring back the man who killed it the first place and a coach who was banking on coaching multiple players from the "Reedeem Team" with the hopes that he could be coaching The 2012 Olympic Squad and now bitter that his coaching record got jacked up just to end up with a player he has coached before!

Of course none of what I have said about Melo is true.....but the sad thing it is not that far from what could really (and will likely) happen!

The last two years shouldve taught us something; lets focus on what we have and not be concerned with moves (trading for Rubio or Fernandez) and acqusitions (do I need to give an exmaple) that will never come to pass.

This is one of the lamest threads I ever read for two reasons:

1. It's completely made up BS.
2. Melo is already being offered MAX money by Denver and is a MAX player. There is no reason to use the Knicks or any other team to inflate his value when he already commands a max salary. He is not Joe Johnson or another marginal all-star looking to make more than he deserves.

Dude, a little late for April Fools and a little early for Halloween. Melo is supposedly more interested in going to Houston according to a report on Yahoo anyways.

So Melo...who has a 3 year extension sitting on the table, which is guaranteed security going into unknown territory with the new CBA (which could take some money out of players' pockets and put it into owners' ie. lower max contract totals) is somehow using the Knicks to get....more money? How much more is looking to get? 3 years $65 million is a little over 20 mil a season. He's not getting more than that from anyone. I'm sure you know how the Bird Rights work (and I'm not even sure if they apply when giving an extension) and the team that can pay him the highest amount of money is the team who holds those rights...the Nuggets. This same team has offered him an extension that averages out to about $21m a season.

I understand where you're coming from. But if Melo was all about the money then he would have signed that deal long ago, especially with the mystery of the new CBA looming. His not signing the deal speaks volumes.

a little sensative are we! LOL!

Look just having some fun in the off season.

Fact remains that tho that in all likelyhood Melo never suits up for The Knicks or any other team.

The point is we don't need yet another season waiting and hoping for players to arrive to revive our team!

So while my made up scenerio of Melo using NY to get more money is apparently off (sorry never took the time to study the CBA) the fact remains is we look desperate when we are all over reports of a player having an interest in playing for The Knicks because often the player has an agenda be it financial gain (and yes I now realize this doesnt apply to Melo) or to put pressure on their current squad to upgrade their team or to get some press from the NY media!

The defenition of insanity is repeating the same action hoping for different results and if you look at how every Summer there is a new rumor about us getting a big name player and it never works out then we are starting to go insane!

Apparently Anthony was quoted saying NY have overstated his interests in becoming a Knick and that Houston are now his 1st choice.

Regardless, to assume one thing over another is pointless. These egomaniacal pricks (best exemplified by LBJ) are so self engorged that they'll just end up wherever they get stroked hardest.

Precisely. But let's not assume the worst.

I'd disagree. Let's focus on what we have --and-- what we don't have, and certainly that includes potential moves and changes. To put a focus on one, at expense of another is foolish, and is a recipe for mediocrity at best.

We can do both. We have it in us. :)

Carmelo is in a position to get both a preferred destination and a current CBA maximum through an extend and trade. He has until June 30, 2011 to opt out of his current contract and it does not appear that Denver intends to withdraw its $65M extension offer. Melo certainly wants both the secured maximum money and a possible preferred destination. We do not know which he might want more. Will he take his chances with a contract under a new CBA with uncertain compensation and contract length limitations simply to permit his choice of destination? I do not think so. Before June 30, 2011, if he does want to stay in Denver and take the money offered, there will be a trade to a location satisfactory to Melo and LaLa. The trade will include a contract extension under the current, and likely far more favorable, CBA. New York is not the only preferred location. Apparently LA and the Clippers are among the other possible destinations. In any event, I do not think anything is happening soon and that is fine with me. I am anxious to see what we currently have.

STOP THIS PLEASE

are we really going to do this again

the media fabricating stories up until when ever and how ever MElo Decides to make a decision

Number one he is already under contract, so extension or no extension similarly to KOBE wanting to LEAVE LA , nothing happens until the Nuggets say so

and with that being said Can we please just ignore this crap, I feel like We just got rid of the bad girl friend called the LEBRON JAMES media hype, and now the media is pulling us right back into the same relationship with the CARMELO ANTHONY media hype

lets be smart folks.

like James

we have no clue.

Carmelo to Houston to make the Big 5 (with Yao, Scola, Martin and Brooks)...

Although those are decent players, and with Yao rumored to retire before the season begins, I just don't see Carmelo thinking that team would be able to compete against the Lakers.

Unless he's looking to intern at NASA or some oil company, what is his motivation for wanting Houston? Wojnarowski is just talking out of his assss like always guessing and making up shit.

Maybe the truth to the rumor is that the Rockets are involved in a threeway with Denver and the Knicks, with Curry and JR Smith headed to Houston, Melo and Courtney Lee to NY and Gallo/Martin to Denver, or some combo like that. That I would believe.

Haven't we learned anything by now that "sources" are just a way for most reporters to spin a story however they want.

Why the hell would he go to Houston? He has better players at nearly every position in Denver.

Agree with you 110%. The media loves to take advantage of our passion for winning and getting back to the glory days. This Melo story will get spun around more times than a porn star.

Bottom line is DEN and Melo will have to come to terms at some point. Until then, 98% of these reports are just writers needing something to put out to please their employer.

I thought it was obvious Carmelo Anthony wasn't coming to the Knicks, just like it was obvious Lebron James wasn't coming to the Knicks.

It made no sense for Anthony to go to the Knicks, when he's used to playing in Denver, has had multiple 50 win seasons, and was offered over 20 million dollars a year with Denver. The Knicks don't have enough capspace to give Anthony 22 million/year, so it was obvious the Knicks weren't going to get him.

Lebron James is an attention seeker, and me and several other posters knew that, too. It was pretty obvious he wasn't coming to the Knicks for the simple fact that he already knew he wasn't good enough to lead a team to a championship. And the Heat is a team that gives him the flexibility of leading the team on some nights and taking a backseat to Wade or Bosh on other nights.

Chris Paul asked to be traded, but the Knicks only have peanuts to offer. They traded away all of their first round picks for Tracy McGrady, and most of the players on the Knicks are role players, except Amare Stoudemire.

I guess the idea of trading Curry's expiring contract for Rip Hamilton's soon-to-expire contract isn't so bad.

Exactly this. Carmelo doesn't need to pressure anyone to get max money. In fact by not accepting an extension, he'll most likely be losing money to play for a team he likes in the future.
