Should N.Y. Knicks Pursue O.J. Mayo???

The fact is that while Smith did have a great year coming off the bench in New York, posting a career best 18.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, not to mention shoot 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from long range... In terms of sixth men, those numbers are mind-blowing...

Enter Mayo, a pure shooter who did a fine job as Dallas? starting shooting guard this season... He averaged 15.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, and also shot 45 percent from the floor and 41 percent from long range...

Now, in hindsight, Mayo is a downgrade over Smith... He is not as strong an athlete, nor is his offensive attack as versatile... He either shoots threes or drives to the basket, very rarely creating off the dribble...

But the fact of the matter is that financially, Mayo makes sense for the Knicks... He may not get a chance to start, depending on what?s in the cards for future star Iman Shumpert, but he can still provide instant offense for a team that could potentially lose one of its key weapons in Smith, who could very well depart for a larger contract...

If you are GM Glen Grunwald, Smith with one foot out the door do you pull the trigger now or hope Smith does indeed re-sign with the team... A sign and trade of Smith, and a third team along with Dallas should be an option these coming days...

Thoughts???

Even if we take on Marion's expiring contract along side a S&T with Mayo???

There is a way of doing this, if we use J.R. and either Tyson or Andrea via a 3 team trade...

Just taking on Marion contract is incentive enough for Mavs to push this type of deal through...

Of course Dallas won't be taking any of those contracts back, but from a third team that wants J.R. then we could push either Tyson or even Andrea that has cap room could take back more than giving out... There has to be a player or two that Dallas would be willing to acquire from that third team...

I thought it could be possible...

Something to think about if they truly try to pursue Mayo...

J.R. Smith >>> Mayo in athleticsim
Mayo >>> J.R. Smith in ball handling/consistency

we do have a starting role open at SF which Marion could fill in immediately and become tandem with Shumpert at the wings...

It is possible!!!

JJ Redick just got a 4 year 27M deal with the Clips. Chase Budinger a 3 year 16M deal. The way the market is shaping up for wings makes it less likely JR will be back. Mayo would be a good replacement, Grunny will have to work really hard to pull a deal off to get him though.
