Official Collective Bargaining Agreement Thread

What a ride this season was.

Will there be one to follow it late this year?

NBA-Lockout.jpg

The owners and the players are at war! With the league projecting about $350 million in losses this season, the owners have proposed a hard salary cap to replace the current system that allows for certain exceptions. They also seek lesser contract lengths and values and non-guaranteed deals.

We have signed flexibility over to our 2 MAX players. Both have been in attendance for talks

During the ASG break this year, things apparently got a bit acrimonious between opposing sides. Offers rejected and insults hurled.

Since then, things have apparently settled:

Players union president Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers said: ?The dialogue was constructive. There definitely was a commitment to trying to get this process done in this room.?

Hunter said he and Commissioner David Stern would make plans for smaller meetings when they returned to New York next week. Hunter has been telling his players to be prepared for a work stoppage he said would ?hurt of all us, everybody associated or connected with NBA basketball,? but believes four months is still enough time to prevent it.

?We?re going to make every effort to negotiate. We want to get a deal. Our guys do not want to be locked out, but they?re given no choice and that?s what I said to them,? Hunter said. ?If you don?t give us any choice and our only alternative is to fight, then we?ll fight.?

Already it has become apparent that there will be no Summer League. Who'll cast the next stone?

If Fisher wears those shorts to the negotiating table he might get the owners to overlook some of the player's requests, they'll be too busy ltao.

If there's a hard cap instead of a soft cap then odds are the hard cap will be higher than the current soft cap...the soft cap is at ~56 million but payroll can go up to as high as over 100 mil (as we saw due to ol' Marbury). If there were to be a hard cap it'd have to be higher than the current soft cap otherwise teams such as the Lakers (and us) would have absolutely no cap flexibility over the next 5 years, and being that the big market rules, it won't happen. I'm thinking there's probably going to be a hard cap of maybe 68 million or so, coupled with reduced max contracts.

Which could be good news for us. If there's a hard cap it might raise the cap to the point where we could sign CP3, problem is once we're locked in, we're locked in, and there's nothing to be done about it. Who knows - this CBA could change the field completely.

The new CBA will be direct (or aimed) at ending teams
franchise-players from leaving as an UFA to form an aliance
with other franchise-players to produce a BIG-3 on one team
in a FA market (Miami BIG-3).
Players vs Owners = Lockout.
:boohoo:
This Cap-Lockout will hurt the Knicks rebuilding process b/c we
became a cap team with two high Max $$$ salary players.

That's just gay.

Fisher has made himself look like a retard a couple of times (that apalling headband in the 2001 Finals) :teeth:

but this is definitely the icing on the cake!

I agree, I think there has to be some kind of concession made if the NBA wants to implement a hard cap, which should benefit the Knicks in their situation. It would leave us with plenty enough cap space to sign a max guy in 2012 & CP3 could afford to wait things out for 1 season & come here already knowing what the CBA situation is gonna be like. In the meantime that also probably means the Knicks won't make any significant FA signings this summer outside of 1 year stopgap deals, or low money longterm acquisitions. They will want to preserve their cap flexibility for 2012 at all costs.

The NBA?s initial proposal for a new collective-bargaining deal called for a $45 million per team hard salary cap along with non-guaranteed player contracts and significant cuts in annual salary increases.

The details, spelled out in an April 26 memo issued by National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Billy Hunter, marks the league?s push for a major overhaul of the NBA?s economic model and emphasizes to players an aggressive bid to significantly slash costs and shorten contracts.

The memo was sent to all NBA players and was dated just days prior to the league delivering to the union a new labor proposal, which a source said still included the $45 million hard cap but added a phase-in of the cap over a few years. Union president Derek Fisher publicly dismissed the latest proposal as too similar to the original proposal.

The memo?s most eye-popping element is the league?s proposed $45 million hard cap, which cuts the current $58 million soft cap by nearly 25 percent.

****ing hell! $45M! This lockout will last forever!

Whether or not it's introduced via a phase in, be it added on in decrements as current max contracts expire or whatever, 25% is ridiculous!

When it looked practically implausible to add CP3 in the future before, it looks completely improbable now.
