Kenneth Faried grabbing Knicks' attention

He doesn't have center-size, but he exhibits the exact ballplayer traits Knicks president Donnie Walsh feels the Knicks desperately need. And better yet, Walsh would be stealing him right out of the Nets' backyard.
Newark's own, Kenneth Faried, the rugged 6-foot-8 power-forward rebounding machine, has fascinated Knicks scouts, according to people in the know.
The Morehead State bruiser, who ignited the small-school's first-round upset of Louisville, has seen his stock soar since the NCAA Tournament, when the Eagles got to the Round of 32. Likened to Dennis Rodman, Faried set an NCAA modern-day record of 1,673 career rebounds and averaged 13.4 this season.

One scout said he is "probably the best rebounder in the draft."
Some NBA scouts even wonder if he'll be available when the Knicks select at No. 17.
Walsh, who's working on a new contract, wants size for the roster, preferably center, but none of quality will likely be there at 17. Amar'e Stoudemire is not a great boardman and the undersized Knicks became a poor rebounding team. Faried is slightly undersized even for a power forward, but scouts rave about his motor, hustle and tenacity for loose balls.
Today, the Knicks begin pre-draft workouts by bringing in four players, including: guard Cory Joseph (Texas), forward Willie Reed (St. Louis), guard Xavier Silas (Northern Illinois) and forward Greg Smith (Fresno State). This weekend they will attend the Nets' combine, where Boston College point guard Reggie Williams will hold their attention.

Faried can really help our rebounding and defense. He hustles for rebounds and steals as if he was playing for his life. I think that is something the Knicks need.

BALL DON'T LIE
The guy can rebound with the best of 'em.

What do you guys think of a Douglas for Dragic trade? With this we get a real PG who can run MDA's offense.

Dennis Rodman is 6'7" and put up enormous rebounding numbers. It's not all about height - if Faried has natural ball instincts like Rodzilla, he would help us a ton.

its about instincts, having a nose for the ball and oakley type hustle....as the great bill russel said, 90% of the boards are gotten below the rim. so height is not the #1 factor we should look for.

I hate that he's an undersized pf.. He should help us defensively but damn we need size.

we need a center and a backup pf.. faried can play backup to stat and occasionally play alongside him.. height isnt everthing.. there is a thing called wingspan also hustle and heart... ben wallace is like 6'7''...

id luve to see a combination of jerome jordan and faried growing together...

also i hear people on here claiming chuck hayes can start at center...hopefully not the same ones that are complainin about faried height

Lol chuck hayes...never was a fan of his..

Faired would be a great backup pf to have.. especially to d up opposing backup pfs like say Glen Davis.. But in todays Nba physicality is frowned upon.. were still gonna need a center with some height to counteract the likes of a Bynum, Howard, etc

amare with dalembert
faried with baron/jordan/vet min

faried and amare maybe 8 minutes a game depending on matchups...

id be good with a front court of that this summer without overspending

then get a second rnd pick....drart isaih thomas

**** me. I promised myself I wouldn't do this. I'm in love with Farried. It's one of those situations that I'm going to be pissed out of my mind if we don't get him....... which we won't because he won't drop that far.......... which means I'm just building up for my own demise on draft night.

Can someone please give me names of other big men that can be good? I'm honestly seeing 15+ rebounds in Farried.

We need someone that can give us a boost on the boards IN THE STARTING LINEUP. Farried may be a rebounding machine but he'll be a bench player behind Amare for years. If we can get a true center (Dalembert) to play alongside Amare then I'm all for it.

I disagree.

Its exactly about size or lack there of. For every Rodman there are 500 Dalemberts, Wilcox's and Jeffries.

Ummmm at <6'11", it's wishful thinking to believe a Dejuan Blair belongs umongst the likes of other servicable natural centers.

And yeah, instincts are a plus as is awareness...

But as they say "You can't teach size"

Don't circumvent, don't reinvent, don't force the square peg... Get a f*cking Big in here immediately! No more excuses.

Or our 100mil investment will become an erroded waste.

There's no one with size that we can get at pick 17th, so we might as well get a back up pf for Amare.

I'm not talking about a center I'm talking about a rebounder - we need a 6'11" guy to match up with other 6'11" guys...you can't teach height but you also can't teach instincts.

Love is 6'10 and the best rebounder in the league because he has a 6th sense, where the ball is going off the rim, he consistently out rebounds guys at 7'. Fields actually has it too, to some extent. Barkley had it as well, the ability to know when a shot is going up where the rebound is going.

Yes, height is important - but with certain gifts height can be made up for in terms of rebounding, even if they leave something to be desired in shot blocking. Brook Lopez, for instance, is an atrocity of a 7' guy, the guy can't rebound. Shawn Bradley had insane height, and he is downright embarrassing. Bringing a 7' guy in here for the sake of bringing a 7' guy in here is pointless if that guy has Brook Lopez-like ability to rebound and get in the way.

I want useful bodies, bodies that can rebound, block shots and clog the middle. You telling me you wouldn't take Ben Wallace in his prime if we could have him because he's 6'9"? You wouldn't take Love right now because he is 6'10"? That's a bit prejudicial, don't you think? If there's a 6'9" guy out there who can rebound and play defense like a solid 7 footer, what's his height REALLY matter? Rebounding is a lot more than height, and what we need right now is rebounding. Of course the bigger you get the easier it is to rebound, but it's not a hard and fast rule...

This is what I'm seeing in a lot of mock drafts. We will have to sacrifice talent/skill/NBA-playing-ability if we want a 6'11"+ guy.
Hopefully the CBA will allow us to use the MLE so we can sign Dalembert. I think he will really help our interior defense and will make it more difficult for players like Rondo/Rose to score in the paint. Hopefully we can bring back Jerome Jordan too and see how his size will help us.

Jordan had a good season I heard overseas.

Honestly, I don't care really care too much about a guys height, if he can D-Up a center and REBOUND like a center, then he can play.

:agreed:
Thats pretty much all i want this offseason. Resign Walsh, Resign Shawne Williams+AC, Draft Faried, Sign Dalembert or Deandre(If available) using the MLE, Bring back Jerome Jordan, and if we can i want to sign vets like Przybilla,Grant Hill, Nazr Mohammed. With that roster i think we can become serious contenders.

keep in mind everyone we need a center not just to rebound but to make those fast PG who like to penetrate the paint for a lay up think twice about it. Nothing makes running into the paint for a lay up seem more like a bad idea than a foot ball 7 foot 250-275 pound center.

There won't be any decent centers available at pick 17.

We should draft a legit shooting SG so Fields can be our sixth man
He works well in that glue guy role, we need shooting and scoring/defense
from a starting SG.
