BALL DON'T LIE
In the summer of 2012, the knicks have the chance to sign one of these three guys....

I would go after Dwight Howard.
Quality centers are very hard to find these days, and he is the BEST right now. Amar'e-Melo-D12 would rape the HEAT. Who would you guys rather have?

Dwight Howard isn't a dire need for the Knicks with Amar'e and Melo.

CP3 or Dwill would be.

We would need solid backcourt defense, and a facilitator to direct the offense of who gets the ball, when they get it and how they use it.

Has anyone noticed that the best teams defensively don't have anything close to a dominant center?

Yeah. But getting D12 would dramatically improve our rebounding and interior presence. And additionally, we have a so-called offensive genius of a coach in MDA. I'm sure getting the offense to flow won't be much of a problem with STAT-Melo-D12 on your team.

Agreed, although since those are our glaring needs in the paint, there are plenty of serviceable bigs who can collectively get it done.

I have no faith in D'antoni, and feel he is as over-rated as they come.

But with a Dwight Howard, we would need Stat at all, since their best space on the floor is down in the paint finishing around the rim.

Not that I'm suggesting anything........

I'd still go with the complete pg, and plug up the center hole with two to three bodies.

But every team seems to have pg's who can break down defenses, except us.

How can you not pick superman? If the pic displaying him flying thru the hallways with a Pepsi vending machine strap to his trunks wasn't impressive enough...just think about what he can do for the Knicks in the paint. He can pass, block, and shoot the shorty's. Billups/Douglas can easily make a choice of 3 targets in Stat Melo and Howard.

What other team would have a dominant center who plays with the likes of STAT and Melo?

Don't forget in 2012 Billups might be willing to sign for the vet. minimum (if he's interested in staying in NY). Is he our ideal PG? Maybe not. Is he a heck of a PG? Yes. I see no reason why we wouldn't have a great chance at a championship with that team, even with a player less of Billups' caliber.

I'm not saying Dwight would be a bad choice, just not my choice.

I think CP3-Melo-Stat is a championship contender just as much as a Melo-Stat-Howard.

I just believe a center group can collectively have the same impact defensively as Howard on this team individually.

But I don't think an average pg can lead that group, or even Stat and Melo.

Plus the discussion is kinda moot, CP3 is all but in a Knicks uniform.

Actually if STAT does more shooting outside the paint that might be better for him. Obviously physically wise it'd be better, I'm talking about playing wise. A lot of games he's straight up money with his shot.

Also look down the line. Howard and Melo don't have an injury history. Not that Amar'e hasn't been in good/great shape for the most part the last two years or so, but we should consider having two healthy superstars who have no significant injury past who will play for us after their first contract with us.

It's true that a PG the caliber of Chris Paul and Deron Williams doesn't come along everyday either. The thing with Howard is, not only would we have a position highly sought after that is rare in today's NBA, we'd have the best.

Howard would SOLVE any match-up problems we'd have. Any PG we get isn't gonna save the day when we face Bynum and Pau at the same time. You say we can easily fill the defensive holes with Chris Paul, well we can easily fill the rest with Howard. Compare Billups with Fisher. Billups is much better, and even if we don't have the best offensive flow, we'd still kill it. I mean come on! Billups plus Howard?

BILLUPS PLUS HOWARD PLUS STAT PLUS MELO?

And also, what if T-Mac joins for the vet. minimum? The flow of the backcourt with him with be smooth sailing.

Stat used to be one of and I think his last year in PHX was the leader in points in the paint, and that was with his jumper.

Teams allow Stat to shoot those jumpers because......

1)he isn't as efficient with it, as he would be in a p-n-r situation.

2)defense can sag a little, and focus on the boardwork.

Bottom line...Amar'e shooting more jumpers is a less effective Amar'e.

i give you the health factor 100%, and Howard is vastly more healthier than CP3, but I truly feel great players adjust, and I see CP3 having a long career as well in a high capacity.

You'd get arguably the same thing in a CP3 or Deron Williams though, the best at that position as well.

But one thing from watching the game now....a secondary tier pg meaning outside of top 10, does not have the impact that a second tier group of centers do.

Howard doesn't solves any frontcourt issue, and honestly Howard has been a liability a times on the floor, even in his greatness, especially with his high number of personal fouls, and constant technicals.

CP3 or even Deron put defenses on their heels on offense, and they can prevent penetration by opposing pg's on defense.

I'd rather my perimeter defense be elite, and my interior defense to be solid, not the other way around.

Everybody drives past Billups, everybody don't get pass CP3 or D-Will.

An when you're backcourt is that compromised Dwight Howard alone does not solve that.

And on offense, is Dwight willing is just be the defender and rebounder?

His normal scoring output would have to come down by at least half.

Just looking forward the Knicks have to be financially responsible as well going forward.

I'd take two guys who can consistently give me 7-10 pts, 7-10 boards with three blocks combined playing 20+ minutes, depending on effectiveness each night probably willing to sign a one year deal......like maybe a Kwame/Reggie Evans possibly Dally.

That is a good ass post. Flawless.

Dwight, the biggest and truest and best Center in the game

Amare, an all star center natural PF with maybe the best explosion and power for his position

Melo, all star sf and perhaps the most powerful and biggest sf in the game

*THAT* is size, and it isn't size for the sake of size. It's ruthlessly efficient, logically put together size.

You could some vet min ballers who can distribute and be a leader from the 1, a 2 who can guy spread the floor.
You talking legendary team. Legendary.

No fronting tho, u trade STAT for Howard and run to the ****ing bank if u can and then ink CP3 or Deron of possible.

CP, Melo, Howard would be beautiful. And let's never forget the wise wisdom bout both age and injury. It ain't everything, but it's a factor.

I pick D-12. I've said many times that my perfect scenario is signing D-12 and then getting Steve Nash for the veteran's minimum to create the greatest team of all time.

Why would anyone turn down a 3 time defensive player of the year in a league that's short of centres?

NYKnicks11

Howard then Williams then Paul.

I'm too concerned about Paul's knee to give him a big deal. I feel his knee will become bone-on-bone eventually and make him ineffective. Howard solves rebounding and defense problems just by himself. Deron is a bigger PG who can score in almost every way and is very good at setting up teammates.

Legend
CP3, best PG in the NBA.

We already got a C/PF in Amare and a SF/PF in Melo.

Passing/Ball Movement/Speed/Perimeter defense are big weaknesses, and those are hard weaknesses to fill in.

This league is favoring guards more than big men anyway. Dwight looks like the type who can get a freak injury with the way he plays. Rather invest in CP3.

D12 is the most dominant center in the game right now. If he ever put together his offensive game he would probably rule the court and no one could stop him. If he was playing in NY with MDA's offense he'd have more opportunities to see the ball on that end of the court and could get better. Maybe he could also convince the knicks to sign Ewing to a coaching role... defensive specialist perhaps?

Outside of coaching, i think that he would mesh with melo and stat nicely because both melo and STAT like the high post for the pick n roll or swinging in from the wing. D12 would be the force in the paint with amar'e being a good help defender and Melo locking down his man, opposing SF-PF-C's would not be able to get points.

However i feel that CP3 will be a Knick next season and that with any of the 3 players mentioned, our team would be the team to beat. Dwill is a surprisingly strong PG with post moves. CP3 is a great defender and floor general who i think would do a lot for the direction of the team, especially on defense where STAT and others get confused. Having that vocal player on the floor directing the D is huge, especially on a team that lacks that presence.
