Anyone else confident in Toney Douglas as our PG?

I think he could get the job done. D'Antoni looks like he's confident in him running our point if we get Bibby it seems he'll be our backup thats what im hearing. And so unless we get Davis looks like we may stick with douglas and im fine with that actually. he knocks down shots, only concern is the big one- can he run the point? his handles are nice and all and he's a decent passer but his reads are what concerns me. I think he could get it done as Chalmers did for the Heat. and D'antoni is an offensive wizard and we all know if he commiting to him he could make him look better than he his, He's done it before (Duhon, felton) So im willing to give him a chance playing under Billups helped him and he filled in nicely for em. if that dont work out we have Shumpert hahah

Im skeptical of anyone who spells Tony with an E but there is no doubt there are good sides to Mr. Douglas. He's high energy and a pretty decent scorer/defender and I would love him coming off the bench. As far as starting PG i dont think he can carry us. He never really had a chance to utilize Chaunceys experience and we are in need of a facilitator. At the end of the day we could do worse, but do i feel comfortable with him leading our offense? umm NO.

I feel the EXACT same way bro, ppl tend to forget how well TD play as starting PG when Billups first got injured. I say give Toney the keys and lets see if it works out.

i respectively disagree i feel a half season and playoff series of playing with billups and running the point showed him what it takes to run point in the NBA. I would hope he worked out during the offseason/lockout which im hearing from reports him, stat and melo came in in great shape. With our lineup he's not required to do too much as our offense will run through Melo almost every trip down STAT and Melo basically so douglas will get the 3 and do his thing which is defend. PLus, if MDA is confident and thinks he could run point i do as well i trust MDA offensively, no denying he knows his shit

** btw if we can improve the PG position im all for it, this is assuming Douglas is our starter this year**

We dont really have a choice but to give him minutes there....I'm not impressed with him, I think he's undersized and needs to be coached up on the defensive end. Hopefully that gets taken care of during this short camp but I dunno.....gotta be smart with the ball....

thats my one concern on him. i like him a lot, but thats his one flaw it seems. if he could make better decisions with the ball it could work out well

TD can be an excellent defender, but takes unnecessary risks. He has an excellent shot, and I think is savvy enough to learn how to dictate the pace of the game, with some experience. Last year was only his second in the league.

All we need him to do is keep his turn overs low, and give us 8 pts and 6 assists a game.

He doesn't have good PG skills still, and he never will at this point. But with Amare and Melo that isn't a big deal. Both will iso from the elbow/wing most of the time anyway. If he can provide good three point shooting and pesky defense, that is fine.

i hope we find a way to score outside of that, Melo's FG% is way too low if we're serious about getting far in the playoffs

i liked the comparison to Bird, Mchale and Parish with Bird(MELO) running the offense. Melo can pass the ball, he just never does because his job is to score and take guys on one on one. I can see Melo/Amare doing a successful pick and roll which can have Melo either shooting off the screen or passing to amare for the easy signature slam.

Tyson chandler is also a good pick and roll player so expect to see this play often in our offense.

Melo was also a good 3 point shooter on the knicks, better then he ever was in Denver so if he can maintain that then he can be lethal as the #1 man in our offense.

Im happy we have Melo and not Lebrick James

With Douglas, if Melo is running the offense then we dont need CP3. Douglas has become a very good outside shooter so he can basically be what Bibby was to the Heat last year, a 3 point specialist PG who sometimes brings the ball up the court.

I like it but I would prefer Baron Davis, JJ Barea to be the PG but I wouldnt lose sleep over this strategy. Not bad.

Toney Douglas will never be a successful starter his best will be a Jason Terry type of sixth man. For know he can start because the Knicks don't have options. He doesn't necessarily have to be great but want great, it is the only way to be real contenders.

Last I heard there is slight chance Baron Davis will be amnestied, and Knicks would be interested. The Knicks need a veteran pass first pg to maybe change TD's game, but the Knicks next step is looking for a starting point guard.

with Chandler waiting for Rondo I dont think Rondo will be blowing past TD that often.

He rarely blew past TD. TD was playing 5+ feet off Rondo the entire game (especially game 4 of the playoffs) even when he was 5 feet from the basket. How the f*ck are you playing defense under the basket and expect to stop a professional?

I still think Rondo is grossly overrated!!

From what i remember Rondo sonned the sh*t outta Douglas but i didnt know that Douglas was playing with a bad shoulder. Jeffries played way better defense on Rondo then Douglas did, but again...the shoulder injury

of course he is, I hope this isn't news! Put him on any other team where he can't pad his assists with the players around him, and can't shoot anyway, then he's just a middle/below the pack player.

I like TD coming off the bench, but I don't see him being that field general the way felton was or even chauncey was. I know people are against it, but I wouldn't mind bringing in a mike bibby or even a carlos arroyo at this point.

Word. Dildo made minced meat out of our boy Douglas, but a bad shoulder...playoff nerves...and the lack of total team cohesion we had at that pt explains it, in my opinion.

Douglas could be fine at the 1, *if* Melo is able to be turned into more of a point forward; remember, Douglas was actually being hyped as an *advantage* to the team, when we were considering adding Lebron as our 3...

Ideally, we can sign Barea or get Sessions, perhaps -- I would feel comfortable with a tandem of Douglas and one of those two.

Sums it up nicely. It's just his decision making sometimes he gets caught with the ball and the few times I saw him play point he seemed to always be looking for a score for him or someone else not really getting the concept of just moving the ball.

Considering it appears we are going to be playing a lot of the offense through Melo whoever our PG is not a massive deal as long as they can take care of the ball, throw accurate passes, find the open man when needed and knock down jumpshots that's it. Being a good defender is a plus. Toney D got all that covered.

I think our main concern now should be SG not PG. We need a full backcourt.
