On Thursday, the Knicks arrived in Miami to workout before the showdown against their Eastern Conference rival. After falling to Cleveland on Wednesday, New York sits at 7-11 this year and is hoping to salvage the road trip with games in Miami and Houston before returning home on Sunday.

carousel_meloLebron.jpg

Carmelo Anthony is banged up heading into the highly anticipated matchup with a sore thumb, sprained left wrist, and sprained right ankle. Baron Davis continues to show diligent work on the rehab front but the point guard remains cautious in rushing back to the floor. The Knicks will shootaround on Friday morning, which should provide more information as far as the potential return date for Davis.

It seems most fans would deem the 2010-11 Miami Heat season a failure after the Big Three joined forces and promised South Beach the start of a dynastic title run.

However, among all the criticism, the Heat were just two wins away from an NBA Championship and return a nucleus that features one of the most dynamic tandems in all of basketball.

During the shortened free agency period, Miami made an extremely underrated acquisition by inking defensive specialist and three-point marksman Shane Battier.

The Heat also added former Knicks center Eddy Curry and drafted guard Norris Cole. At 13-5, Miami leads the Southeast, interesting enough without All-Star Dwyane Wade for the past six games due to a sprained right ankle. The Heat have found a way to capture victories behind the spectacular play of LeBron James and Chris Bosh as Wade sits in street clothes. Wade is listed as day-to-day and could potentially return on Friday night.

With five wins in its last six games, Miami enters the matchup against New York after back-to-back wins.

My little write up: OIL & WATER.

Oil_and_Water_by_AlexAidonidis.jpg

Oil and water do not mix. Intermolecular, natural bonding is the reason why they don't mix. There are some things that are incapable of interconnection.

What happened to the Amar'e from last year? How Melo, Chandler and our offense intertwine in Amar'e's unavoidable shortcomings.

carousel_1.25img4.jpg

STAT

1. Melo. Thus far, as it's apparent that there is no cohesion between the 2, Amar'e has been sucked in to the supernova of Melo's ungenerous, stagnant offense. He has to wait for his turn to get the ball, rather than rely upon a precognitive, set up play that's been drawn specifically for him - a fault of the approach more so than Anthony, but Anthony's either passing or shooting, there's no bridge between the 2.

When Melo holds the ball offensively, there's a 9/10 chance that he'll look to score every time, or reset and get the ball back. Once Melo's pulled the trigger, opponent's defense collapses to the paint to rebound, naturally. The issue with isolation basketball is that it's incredibly easy to read. Hence, once Melo looks up, all Amar'e's opponent need do defensively is deny him from receiving the ball.

Melo and Amar'e are not facilitators, but they're relied upon to score.

Uncannily, there is still yet to be a reliable P&R being run between them. The fact that they dominate the game by dominating the ball has shown episodes of promise, but has also shown moments of complete confusion, and very, very little team involvement.

2. Tyson. STAT can't play center defensively, but offensively he can ~ he thrives as the stretch pivot @ the 45. Tyson comes in to play, and the benefits of NY's spacing for Amar'e are jeopardized, as Tyson must be close to the basket to be effective on either end. Since the start of the season, we've seen Amar'e commit offensive charges that are drawn by Chandler's man stepping in for the contact. Time and time and time again. Adjustments, who needs 'em!?

3. Mike D/the system.

Though sporadically effective, STAT just isn't the kind of player that should be receiving the ball in the triple threat as much as he does. He shouldn't be receiving the ball for a quick reaction play in which he is the decider. He's not that player! So far this season, he's most deadly within 8 feet of the basket. That was evidenced perfectly by the Cavs game, as Amar'e showed his prowess in the paint, rebounding and scoring. It's there, ****ing use it to WIN!

Isn't that the precise reason we payed nigh on $100M to get him here? To be a Beast? Aa beast that received the ball and hammers it for 2? Now he's playing almost like a perimeter SF at times - the same role as Anthony's been allotted. Fields too, for that matter It's purely moronic.

- He's not a ball handler.
- He's not a facilitator.
- He's not a ****ing stretch 4!
- He's not a shot creator.

He's a 6'10", 260 pound athletic phenomenon with a jump shot.

But, as bemusing as it is, the 'just go out there, space and create' offense, SOMEHOW or other, seems to turn the facts upon themselves. There is no interior mentality on this team, and Amar'e is having to do things that don't correlate specifically to his game. He's caught on the 45 with a triple threat option, but the cutters just ARE NOT THERE to create a lane for him. IT'S PERPETUAL ****ING STAGNANCY! So, once he's reacted offensively - in the tripe threat: shoot, pass, dribble - the opposing team just collapses in to the paint. Charges, defensive boards, blocked shots ensue. But he's put in the same position night after night.

Where the **** is the P&R with Melo? Why isn't Melo feeding a cutting Stoudemire off the block?

I just don't understand it!??

GOTTA BE HONEST, I WROTE THAT VERY QUICKLY AND KNOW THAT IT HAS HOLES IN IT, BUT STILL, THERE'S TRUTH IN THERE. I WANT SO BADLY FOR STAT TO DO WELL, BUT HE'S MISUSED TO THE POINT THAT IT'S BORDERING ON LUNACY.

The guy is not only misused, but needs to be reigned in. Realigned, if you will.

Laziness is derived from a lack of motivation and accountability. Sure, there can still be laziness in an environment that has both, but that's not the issue here.

Nice thread, but i'm just wondering how long dumtoni has left, i love the knicks and haven't miss a game in years(unless working),but i can't take this anymore.I turned from the Cavs game, and i NEVER turned from my Knicks, it would be a different story, if they were playing inside out, and just didn't have the pieces, but we have the perfect team to do so, but this coach is insane, he keeps doing the same thing over and over, and expects a different result. For all the people who say even if we fire this guy it will get worse, before it gets better, i say how much worst can it get?, really.

Nice threat.

Word from Tommy Dee from TheKnicksBlog is that the only thing keeping Phil Jackson from MSG is a phone call from Jim Dolan.

With regards to this team, I hear Melo isn't playing tonight...

Knicks have confrimed it on Twitter, he's out for tonight and tomorrow, if I was imputend I'd say that gives us a serious shot at 2 games winning streak.

edit: I have just heard Baron won't be playing either (tonight and tomorrow)...

I won`t be watching.

Not because I am running out on my Knicks, not because I think we are going to get hammered. I won`t be watching because I cannot stand seeing Dumphoney`s stupid face on the sidelines anymore. I cannot stand getting angry every game as we are getting beaten up and he does notihng, changes nothing.

I simply cannot see this idiot on my screen anymore without wanting to smash my TV. I`m tired of watching a coach who watches his team losing and playing terribly and yet just sticks to the same gameplan in the next game.

It will be very hard for me not too watch but at the moment I simply can`t stand it. Does anyone else feel the same? Or is it just me.

According to Vegas Sportsbooks. The Miami Heat is an 11.5 point favorite in this game - It woulden't surprise me if they cover this spread by a mile. Heat by 20 :barf:

Beasting and Feasting in Melo's Absence

c'mon Knick fans! how can you give up on your squad? how can you not watch your team with a chance of beating those florida f*ckers?

with Melo gone, the ball will move. it's about time the 3's started falling for Douglas and Fields, why not tonight?
perhaps Antoni will actually play Steve Kovaks? or Jerry Jordan? perhaps Girafferies the great (Mike no-D's opinion)
will be strivin' with his significant minutes (i guessed 8 pts, I know that's crazy ;)) but I believe Chandler will manhandle
the Boosh Raptor (not good for my fantasy team), and STAT will come alive like Frankenstein on a rampage.
Bill Walker could be the hidden gem tonite, we shall see, we shall three. we shall overcome.

THANK YOU LOCO OCHOS for the phenomenous game thread

GENIUS!!

It doesn't get any better than that. It really doesn't.

I officially petition super-human, blade-resistant Jewish foreskin as the new gold standard metaphor for describing how tough someone is.

eg,

*"Ya, you have no idea how well he defended the paint in our pick-up game. It was brutal. But Michael's so tough his 4skin blunted the Rabbi's blade during circumcision"

*"My 4skin blunted the rabbi's blade during circumcision. Don't worry about it babe, I can handle this"

*"Fan: Brady's throws are starting to wobble like wet noodles with all that pressure he's under.

"Fan #2: Ya, it's pretty obvious his foreskin is the only thing less battle-tested than ability to withstand the Giants' pass rush."

Most want Anthony to play. Not this Anthony, but the Anthony that we know he can and should be.
