GAME THREAD: The New York Knickerbockers vs The New Orleans Hornets

STAT is what he is. Defensively he needs plenty of work, but he isnt the reason we lost this game. Fields, Shump. Walker and Novak couldnt hit the side of a barn tonight. That, and the turnovers cost us...

i see 3pt shooting as a luxury compared to defense out of your bigs, with the exception of our 3pt specialist

The Knicks need to put this behind them and beat Dallas. It seems like the last time that they won a home game against Dallas was when Rolando Blackman played for the Mavericks.

I dont like all the 3 pt shots being taken by players that cant make a high%. Novak just had an off night.

The defense was fine for the most part. We just got nothing from anyone offensively except STAT and Lin...

Our defense was pretty bad actually, Bellinelli was wide open so many times and the ridicolous cuts to the baskets they made were just awful defense

We gave up 89 points to a team that was primed for this game. You knew going in Monty and Ariza wanted this one bad. The entire team played like it. You gotta understand this is an NBA team they're gonna score some. We couldnt hit shots...

Biggest mistake that the Knicks made was trading Trevor Ariza. Who would have predicted that he would become this good of a player?

He's shot ~39% from the field ever since leaving the Lakers.

He's solid on defense and while he's confident on offense it's extremely shotty. Plus he only makes 2/3rds of his freethrows on average.

When you fall behind early, you have to gain ground with offense.

The Knicks couldn't bring it with offense tonight, because their roleplayers finally started missing some shots. Fields was dreadful in particular.

And you can't blame this one on STAT, he played well, especially on the boards. This one is on Turnovers (Lin) and the inability to hit a single shot from downtown...

guys calm down Ariza is a good defender with size and speed as a SG/SF. His man was walker who is streaky. As soon as he figured out walker was a no show he simply helped defend the entire night while the rest of his team played zone. This game was a perfect example of why the knicks wanted JR Smith since his ability to shoot would of been great alongside a player like Melo who can also create shots for himself. that would of opened up the lane for guys like Amare, Lin, Fields, and shump. It also would of game Chandler a 1 on 1 chance to get rebounds.

+ positives of the night
Amare was trying on defense guys and he was fighting for rebounds.

- Negative of the night
The knicks had to many turnovers
the knicks missed too many free throws

A lot of you might not talk about this here a lot but half the knicks offense is slashing in the paint trying to get the calls so they can shoot free throws..... its a smart counter measure for the streaky shooting the team has had all year. Today if the knicks mad those Free throw shots they would of won the game.

Its the damn Catch 22 the knicks have always had. They need the 3 to go down to open the lanes. Without an outside threat defenses can play zone which clogs up the the knicks slashing.

Lin's TO are to much and I felt the refs could of gave him a call when the Hornets we're abusing him trying to get turnovers. However like always Refs treat away teams like home teams when they play at MSG.....

???

It's funny how so many can watch the same game and see different things. STAT's defense was terrrrrible tonight, Please let's get that straight.

I will concede that we had more glaring issues that put us in a hole , but when you are in a 2-7 point deficit dog fight for the better part of the 4th quarter, your 20 mil dollar man cant be missing assignments, wackin at players and not take one charge or lay a hard foul on someone.
The Last 2 nights STAT has looked particularly out of it on defense. His brother's death gets him a pass from me for now..but this cat has to contribute defensively in other ways besides the occasional athletic blocked shot.
Show and RECOVER, take a CHARGE stop being caught FLAT FOOTED and getting sucked up in opposing teams simple ass 3 man weave type plays.

*****I'm getting heated and this may produce a thread later BUT******

If our boy Amare does not begin to do the little things on defense to help us win he is gonna be the villan of NY. Think about it, this team as constructed, and his increasingly noticeable loss of lift, greatly diminishes his chances to be the scorer he used to be.

We have 2 other players Lin and Melo that dominate the ball, and should. So, unless Lin and STAT click ala Steve nash days, STAT's touches are going to be less frequent. This obviously will lead to less points.... at the same pay?? HELL NO BRUH!!! You better contribute somewhere else.

With the Lin circus, the signing of J.R. smith, the pending return of MELO and the team coming off a 7 game streak that he had largely nothing to do with, we are looking at a potential shrinking violet.
The pouty big sister who was prom queen now watching the younger sis get all the glory and feelin left out.

In order to be the man around here again he HAS to stay engaged on defense and work damn hard on the boards. As in, lead the team in that category avging. double digits.
He's goin through the motions out there a bit and I do, again, think some of it has to do with his brother, in any event, he needs to be an ENERGETIC BEAST out there and add some grime to his game and let the rest fall into place.

STAT is who he is, a great offensive force who sucks on defense. MDA knew that from day one. So should all Knicks fans.

This game was not lost because Amare played like himself on defense. NYK lost because they did not make their open looks.

Once again typical D'Antoni Knicks, get back around .500 and start losing games again. I was writing about this not so long ago, happened last season multiple times, happened this season as well. I expect an L5-L6 streak very soon, so we can once again make a run, reach the .500 mark and everyone starts talking about winning a chip.

It's funny the way everyone is all hyper and flashing their panties when we are winning but all it takes is one loss and people stress out.

We aren't going to win every single game. Yeah it sucks to lose to the Hornets but it's not the end of the world. Can't wait for the next game to see how Lin "recovers" from his non-superman performance.

Stat has always been a bad defender I don't understand why people expect much different. However for a PF to go 38 minutes with 0 fouls is kind of ridiculous especially the way Ariza abused him inside a few times.

Well, maybe because people know it works here? History repeats itself, I don't understand people who say "it's just one game" because we all know we've seen it before and we should be aware that it turns into a long losing streak sooner than later. Under this coach we'll always be a .500 franchise.

Wow, what a terrible loss for us!

I didn't see this one coming.

What happened?

For 3 and a half quarters our defense was really bad by the look of it.

Lin had his worst game as a Knick (probably the hype is starting to suck his energy out).

Our bench had a stinker with the exception of Jeffries.

Looked like we simply got complacent and didn't take the Hornets for real.

The refs were horrible!!! Absolutely horrible for the third time in 5 games or so. There were atleast 7 fouls (clear fouls!) against Lin that weren't called. Then there were fouls against Jeffries and Stoudemire that weren't called.

Terrible job by the refs!

Stern has to look at it, because a guy like Dwayne Wade gets two shots whenever the PA-announcer looks at him funny which is a joke and Lin gets wrestled on the perimiter and they say 'play on' :alert:

D'Antoni simply keeps playing guys with huge contracts over players who play defense.

When I saw JJ popping J's and playing scrappy D I just knew we were going to win...but Nola kept it consistant. I saw how both teams were feeding off of the Garden's energy. A healthy slice of humble pie from time to time is good for the soul.

This was a good lost for the knicks and a great win for Nola, lawd knows they needed it...
