Marc Berman Told #Knicks can't do 2 sign-and-trades, for Kidd/Camby. Kidd would take $3.09M midlevel if #Knicks can accomplish S&T with Camby. Shotblocking center visits Miami this weekend, then meets with Knick brass but not in NYC. Very possible in Vegas where assistant GM Allan Houston, Mike Woodson are for U.S. Olympic Team practices and summer league starting soon. Meanwhile, PG Prigioni still on radar and club trying to figure way to get him more than minimum.
You think Pablo prigioni would be worth more than Minimum? i like his game, IQ & also his confidence saying he'll "drop 20 assists easy in the NBA" which is highly unlikely lol.

The Rockets are open to a sign-and-trade with the Heat for free agent Marcus Camby.
The Heat have only the veteran minimum to work with right now, but could conceivably send back a combination of players, picks, and cash to Houston and offer Camby a salary that he'll deem acceptable. Shane Battier and Joel Anthony's names have been kicked around as possible assets to send back to Houston, but nothing substantive has come out on that front.

OK, so now the Suns pulled qualifying offer to Aaron Brooks making him an unrestricted free agent. now Bayless and Brooks are available, will the Knicks F.O. make a play for either one? either could be EXCELLENT SG and bench backups to LIN, JR, etc. both are better than White James i'm sure...

The Knicks are Back
Camby cancels his meeting with the heat, sounds like a good sign for us. he wants to be back in NY and get some of that 99' magic back haha. He'd be terrific coming in with the second unit and continue to set the tone defensively. Hopefully well walk away from tomorrows meeting with another knick,

after Camby we re-up with Smith and Novak and were looking pretty good. **didnt mention Lin cause he's pretty much resigned

:agreed: i was thinking about that as well, i don't feel he should receive anymore than that.

After we resign J.R and Novak we most likely can't afford more than the biannual exception.

We should use the biannual on Prigioni or a 2 guard that can hit an open outside shot to spread the floor.

If we do a sign and trade for Camby, we would probably lose Jordan and/or Harrelson so we should resign Jeffries to the vet minimum

Trading Gadzuric, Douglas, Harrelson and Jordan leaves one more roster spot open...most likely we would sign someone at the vet minimum like Shawne Williams or just fill it out with someone that will never get minutes so when Shump returns no hard feelings.

...Let's try to round out the order again lol

Lin
Kidd
Melo
Amare
Chandler

Prigioni
J.R
White
Novak
Camby
Jeffries
12 man- Shawne Williams at vet min to fill out roster?

False...The Heat proved they are on another level than the Knicks after beating them 4 - 1 and knocking off the OKC 4 - 1.

I'm happy as **** you said that

The Heat defeated both the Knicks and the Thunder in 5 games, beating the Thunder 4 in a row

The Thunder were at full force, no injuries, everyone healthy, lots of chemistry

The Knicks had pretty much nobody, starting and back up PG hurt, Starting Center with the flu, Starting PF made stupid choice, best perimeter defender down in game 1, best player tripled team, best 3 point shooter isolated

yet both teams only managed to win 1 game against the champs

So you're saying

Carmelo Anthony
Tyson Chandler
Amar'e Stoudemire
JR Smith
Jeremy Lin
Iman Shumpert
Steve Novak
Jason Kidd
Marcus Camby
Jared Jeffries

With a full training camp and a head coach who fits our personnel

cant push the Heat to the limit

So the Heat are also on another level than the Thunder???

Most would not say that yet they lost in 5 games. Thunder just didn't have Harden step up and they missed open outside shots. Plus Heat had guys like Battier and Miller knocking down a million shots.

The Knicks lost in 5 games with Lin out the whole series, Tyson sick in game 1, Amare out in game 3 and no legit PG that could penetrate any opposing teams defense...keep all of that in mind.

I'm hoping to try and swing a trade for Tayshaun Prince

Problem is it means losing out on Camby

Kidd gets the MLE

use the scrub package Douglas, Gadzuric, Jordan, Harrellson and some cash plus a pick for Prince, this guarantees Detroit major cap room in 2013 after using the amnesty clause on Villanueva

We can then sign Jared Jeffries back and use the bi annual exception on Kenyon Martin and a vet minimum salary for Daniel Orton a guy who could learn from Chandler after getting no shot in Orlando

Then re-signing JR and Novak probably bringing on Junior Junior Swish as our 3rd PG gives us a very good roster

G- Lin/Kidd/Smith
G- Smith/White/Shumpert
F- Anthony/Prince/Novak
F- Stoudemire/Martin
C- Chandler/Jeffries/Orton

Prince could act as our Battier
Martin as our Haslem

2 guys who add to our already solid defense pushing us into elite category

We need Camby to allow our defense to hold up when TC is on the bench, last year i begged god every game to not let him get in early foul trouble. Plus Princes contract is horrible isn't it?

I feel you nothing like being able to rest Chandler and have Camby in there instead of STAT or Jeffries protecting the rim

Prince's deal is bad for Detroit because they suck and no matter how good he plays they wont be any better

He could really help us as a 3/4 off the bench playing off of our 1-2 Punch in STAT and Melo well, hits the corner 3, can defend, great glue guy.

If Camby somehow took the BAE, Kidd MLE(3mil) and the scrubs for Prince that would be ****ing awesome

Repped, both good post

To add on Jeffries goes through injury problems alot in the season and Tyson tends to get in foul trouble most of the time as stated, sometimes Tyson has to even tone down his defense just so he can keep himself in the game which makes us more vulnerable in the paint. Now Chandler can remain a little more aggressive knowing he has legit backup insurance that can spare him at least 25 minutes per game. Come playoff time Camby will be BIG for us, he's exactly the kind of Vet big you want coming off the bench to keep the defensive presence in the paint down low and Rebound the ball (9 RPG last season).

Some people complain about his age, yes this is not the 90's anymore and Camby has slowed down but a (38) year old Camby off the (bench) is a MAJOR improvement down low for us. He's not going to Get you alot of points but he does covers alot of weaknesses we had coming off the bench which was an interior defensive presence and Rebounding.

We are addressing depth, I think we need to address the TWO (SG). This article though basically says the same thing about Camby.

One source said the Knicks have been “very aggressive’’ in pursuing the free agent and have a “very good shot’’ at landing him, already having talked to the Rockets about a sign-and-trade for Camby, who played for the Knicks from 1998-2002.

That indicates that possibly TD, JORTS, or Jordan may go with the S&T

Looks lke JR at the Two

Camby to meet today

Miami no longer is a favorite to land Camby after giving their mid-level exception to Ray Allen, but center is a key position for the Heat, and they are willing to do a sign-and-trade with the Rockets.
A source said the Nets, Mavericks and Spurs also are interested in Camby. The Nets would be torpedoing their shot at Dwight Howard if they joined the fray.
The Knicks probably can?t do sign-and-trades to acquire both Jason Kidd and Camby and still retain their $3.09 million mid-level exception. The Knicks may decide ? if Camby agrees to join them ? to sign Kidd via the $3.09 million mid-level exception (a three-year $9.3 million package) and do the sign-and-trade with the Rockets and not the Mavericks.
That appears to be the holdup on any sign-and-trade with Dallas to complete the Kidd acquisition. The Knicks still need to see what assets they have to deal to the Rockets, for whom Camby played the last 19 games of the 2011-12 season.
The Knicks? chief asset to build contract money is Dan Gadzuric?s $1.4 million veteran minimum deal. Toney Douglas? $2 million expiring contract is another asset The partially guaranteed final-year deals of centers Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan are also assets, as are second-round picks.
The Knicks also have an aggregate $3 million in cash to throw into a deal. On July 1, their ability to add money to a trade package was restored. Teams are only allowed to put a total of $3 million into a deal in a season.
The Knicks have pursued Camby for what amounts to four seasons, always making bids at the trading deadline. At the end of his stint with the Knicks, Camby was dealt unceremoniously on draft night in 2002, along with Nene and Mark Jackson, to the Nuggets in a disaster of a deal for Antonio McDyess.
The Knicks have their eye on Camby as a better big man off the bench than anyone they have. The club has thought of bringing back Jared Jeffries, but his knee trouble is a concern. The Post reported in April Jeffries would consider going to Germany for the controversial blood-therapy program and he did, leaving soon after the Knicks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Camby, who was drafted by Toronto in 1996, when Grunwald helped run the Raptors draft, already has talked with the Knicks? front office on the phone. Camby is not interested in the $1.4 million veteran?s minimum.
If Harrellson and Jordan are traded, the Knicks? Summer League team will be rendered meaningless. They won?t have a draft pick to play because Kostas Papanikolaou was with the Greek National Team in Venezuela for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Greece was eliminated last night, but he can?t play in the Summer League because he?s under contract.
The Knicks still have not re-signed Steve Novak. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, said he is still talking to a few teams. The Knicks do not want to overpay, even if they can sign him with their Bird exception.
J.R. Smith is expected to re-sign for the 20 percent salary bump for one-year, $2.85 million.
There didn?t seem to be a big market for Smith. The Clippers, who had interest in Smith after he returned from China in February, backed away and used their full mid-level exception on Jamal Crawford. Smith?s lousy playoffs and recent arrest didn?t help.
The Knicks still have on their radar Spanish League point guard Pablo Prigioni, who is four years younger than Kidd. He is looking for a little more than the minimum and the Knicks have to find a way. The Knicks already have signed Italian Leaguer James White, an athletic swingman with 10 NBA games under his belt.
The Post reported exclusively Jeremy Lin?s offer sheet from the Rockets will be matched by the Knicks sometime after July 11. Lin is not expected in Las Vegas to rejoin the Select Team, from which he withdrew because of his contract status

Knicks envision this starting five next season: Jeremy Lin, J.R. Smith, Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler. With a bench unit of: Jason Kidd, Steve Novak, Marcus Camby, James White and Josh Harrellson, with Iman Shumpert returning from injury by mid-season. Depth at the SG spot is an issue until Shumpert returns, which is why the team will monitor available names for vets min when the dust settles on free agency. Potential candidates so far: Michael Redd, Rudy Fernandez and Roger Mason Jr. Names such as Randy Foye, Courtney Lee and Shannon Brown should be out of vets min range.
