Proposed Dwight Howard deal to Nets could contain more than 10 players

The Orlando Magic have intensified discussions about trading Dwight Howard, and the Brooklyn Nets are rapidly overtaking the Los Angeles Lakers as the strongest contender to land the disenchanted All-Star center, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

As Orlando sorts through the offers, Howard's potential destination is increasingly looking like the Nets, sources said. The tentacles of the proposed deal stretched across more than 10 players and three teams on Monday morning, with the Nets recruiting a fourth team to take on guard MarShon Brooks in exchange for an additional draft pick to send to Orlando.
In the proposed deal, Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark would be sent to Brooklyn, and the Magic would receive the Nets' Brook Lopez, Damion James, Sheldon Williams, Cleveland's Luke Walton and three future first-round picks, sources said. Cleveland would receive Orlando's Quentin Richardson, Brooklyn's Sundiata Gaines, Kris Humphries (on a one-year guaranteed deal), a first-round pick and $3 million from the Nets. Brooklyn also would send Brooks to a fourth team to get them an additional first-round pick to send to the Magic.
Talks between the Magic and Nets remain fluid with some of the deal's parts moving in and out based on different scenarios. One proposed hangup to a trade: Humphries would be against taking a one-year contract with the Cavs, instead seeking a four-year deal, a league source told Y! Sports' Marc Spears.

Despite Orlando?s desire to make Lakers center Andrew Bynum the centerpiece of a trade package, a significant stumbling block remains in Bynum?s reluctance to commit to a long-term contract if he's traded to the Magic, sources said. Orlando doesn?t want to face the possibility of trading for Bynum only to lose him to free agency after the upcoming season.
The appeal of the Lakers' potential package for Bynum has also been diminished with Los Angeles sending its 2013 and 2015 first-round draft picks to the Phoenix Suns in the Steve Nash sign-and-trade deal. The NBA doesn?t allow teams to trade first-round picks in consecutive years, so the Lakers can?t offer Orlando their 2014 and 2016 first-round picks.
The Magic are portraying patience in making a deal for Howard, but have a strong distaste for engaging in a prolonged process that drags into the summer. From new general manager Rob Hennigan through Orlando ownership, the Magic want to find the best possible deal for Howard soon and cut ties with him, sources said.

Bynum, 24, has one year left on his Lakers contract and has a short list of potential teams with salary-cap space and supporting cast that primarily include the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets with the Cleveland Cavaliers and a "couple others" on the list, league sources said. If Bynum remains with the Lakers past the Howard derby, he?ll have strong incentive to accept a maximum contract extension to stay in L.A., sources said. Otherwise, he has expressed a desire to test the free-agent market.
As much as Hennigan prefers to send Howard to a Western Conference team, the Magic keep coming back to the Nets as the best, safest package. Howard?s preferred trade partner ? Brooklyn ? has pushed into overdrive in offering up trade scenarios and options for the Magic, sources said. For now, Orlando prefers Lopez as a centerpiece player over having its pick of the Houston Rockets' roster, sources said.

The Nets started extension discussions with Lopez over the weekend, preparing for the possibility he could stay with them on a five-year deal or be moved to the Magic in a four-year contract as part of a sign-and-trade package for Howard. Lopez has been seeking a maximum contract extension --- five years for $78.6 million --- from Brooklyn, but the two sides are still negotiating a number. If Lopez is sent to the Magic in a sign-and-trade, the most he could get is $58.4 million over four years.
Hennigan has been consistent in pushing teams to offer him multiple first-round picks, as well as be able to absorb one of the Magic?s high-priced veteran contracts, including Hedo Turkoglu and Richardson, sources said.

While the Nets are still working to use Cleveland in a potential deal, they're finding traction with two other possible scenarios to find a home for Humphries' contract, a source said.
Orlando further signaled its desire to start a complete rebuilding process when it sent restricted free-agent forward Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday in a sign-and-trade deal. Anderson would?ve signed an offer sheet with the Hornets for $36 million over four years, and the Magic decided that was too steep a price to match. They Magic acquired backup center Gustavo Ayon in the sign-and-trade deal. (source yahoo sports)

Newsflash!

How in hell are they going to get Deron, JJ & Dwight? All are earning near 20 million and will be over that in a season or two. AND Gerald Wallace's 4 year, 40 million contract.

Still don't get how it is possible especially when Crash isn't included in the supposed 11 player, 3 team trade. Do they plan on having 4 players on the roster and nothing else? Or potentially filling out the roster with D league recruits?

Some team owners and their fans (NETS) are looking into every avenue and loop hole possible to go way above the salary cap to make an explosive (Grand Opening) season in their new location stadium.

As for Stephen A. Smith comment on the Nets being better than the Knicks .. I dont see a Nets team with Deron, JJ, Gerald, and D.Howard being a better winning team than the Knicks .. coach Mike Woodson is a better coach than the Nets coaching-staff put together.
Plus we just added assistant coach Jason Kidd to our bench .. a respected headcoach Woodson, and a well respected same-page facilitator PG-Kidd will turn the Iso-Melo offense Knicks into a moving the ball around, moving without the ball around teammates screeens, run-run lob pass offense, and run-run back on defense Knicks team for stops.
Dont underestimate F/C-Jorts & Jordan defensive services (watch summer league games).

Now if owner Dolan let the luxury-tax stop the resigning of our GELLIN-TRIO of RFA (role-players) .. Lin/Fields/and Novak .. then Stephen A. Smith comment may be a fact.

I wonder why the Toronto Raptors did not go after RFA SG-Eric Gordon
or SG-OJ Mayo with the same offer-sheet they handed Landry Fields???

If amar'e plays at a 20-10 level consistently we will be on par with miami. were gonna have solid bench( one of the best actually ), as well as the best front court in the league. with a camp well emerge as strong strong title contenders. lets not forget Dwight wont be ready to go right away when the season starts. gimme the knicks any day

If Amare puts up 20/10 this year I'd say everybody get out of the way. Knicks Number 1 seed especially with Kidd and Camby on the bench. But if amare doesn't, I say at least a 4 seed.

Someone on ESPN radio said yesterday that the Nets will be on the hook for over $100 million dollars in LUXURY TAX payments over the next 4 years. Prokhorov is gonna have his guys working overtime to compensate.

d'ants system to start the season was horrible he had Melo at point forward (not his game), Chandler in the post (ehhh, ok) and STAT as a stretch 4 (definitely NOT his game). Ant was using his starts wrong to try and create spacing for them, once woody took over what happened? Melo revived himself and went back to the elite player he is. Stat suddenly started playing up to his standards averaging about 19 under woody (which is great by me). and chandler got his dunks as thats all we need em to do. he worked his stars to their strengths not make them what they arent. STAT will be better for that fact alone.

Carmelo Responds to JOE!

Joe Johnson said Friday the Brooklyn Nets are the best NBA team in New York City.

New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony's response?

We'll see about that.

"I hear they're talking trash, but we'll be ready for the challenge," Anthony told ESPNDeportes.com's Marly Rivera at an event in Washington D.C. "I haven't looked at the schedule, but when that game happens, we will be ready."

On Friday, Johnson, who earlier this month was acquired by the Nets in a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Hawks, was asked which New York City team is better.

"The Nets. Definitely, the Nets," he said.

The Knicks always have been New York's basketball team, but the Nets believe they have a chance to take over the city after an offseason in which they've added Johnson, Bosnian stretch forward Mirza Teletovic and rugged rebounder Reggie Evans to a re-signed core of Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace.

The Knicks, who made the playoffs last season before losing to the Miami Heat in the first round, re-signed J.R. Smith, brought in veterans Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd, and are weighing matching an offer sheet by the Toronto Raptors to Landry Fields.

They are expected to match the Houston Rockets' offer sheet to Jeremy Lin, although the Knicks have yet to receive that offer sheet from the Rockets, a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley.

Williams and Anthony are teammates on the U.S. Olympic team, which will take on Brazil on Monday night in an exhibition game at the Verizon Center in Washington before it leaves for the London Games.

Joe johnson- good but overrated an not worth 89 mil
Lopez- no need to explain
Wallace- shell of his former self worth at most 6-7mil
Humphries- 12 mil?! Haha

This is how good Lin is.....with Lin we are better than the Nets....without Lin they are better
we are better then the next tired of lin finding his way into every convo we all have. in any rate our pg position is an upgrade over last years so to say we were only better then them with lin is wrong. if we could have swapped lin with even jason kidd last year we would have won more games with kidd then lin. no there wouldnt have been a kiddsanity and winning all those games like lin did without amare and melo but there also wouldnt have been those streaks and struggling after they returned or careless turnovers. we are better now then when the season ended

Nets have become the new Atlanta Hawks, not worried about them. Their starting 5 is pretty good i'm not going to lie especially with D-Will running their offense, but they are all overpriced (except D-Will) and have no bench. They will never get past the 2nd round, The only chance they ever had at winning a championship was by getting Dwight but they failed lol. The nets fans trash-talking about the Knicks is really starting to piss me off. I can't wait till we play them.
