if Knicks don't win a championship this year, rebuild?

Tyson Chandler is only 30, but he also has 13 years of NBA mileage. Can he preform at the same level as a DPOY or NBA championship? Currently Chandler is an average NBA defender and average offensive player, great rebounder....but his defense has taken a decline. Do we keep him as he continue to decline or hope for him to incline his attributes? Or do we trade him after a failed season and get the most value for him?

Amare also 30 years old. We've seen his decline drastically but offensive he's back and is still a great player scoring the ball, everything else not so much. What team will be desperate to take Amare out of our hands?

Kurt Thomas, 65 years old...pretty sure he hangs it up soon. Same goes for Rasheed who can barely play 10 minutes, Camby who's pretty much on his last limb.

Prigioni is a young 35, he can stay for leadership and he plays good defense and can pass. He's shooting 41% from 3pt this year also.

James White has been useless.

Keep Copeland. He scores 6.5 points in 11 minutes. Defense isn't great, but he's good insurance and not a bad 15th player to have the squad.

Novak is 29, one dimensional...keep him but only give him 12-16 minutes a game, not over 21.

Felton, as average as it gets. Trade him ASAP before he declines and we lose value for him.

JR Smith...Melo...they're like peanut butter and jelly. They're always gonna be together, but I don't know what to do with them. I say keep them because they can score in bunches...but how successful can we be with these guys?

Shumpert stays...to those Shumpert haters, it took Rubio a while to recover from his injury, it's gonna take Shumpert time and as well Derrick Rose some time. Keep Shumpert.

Keepers
Prigioni
Smith
Shumpert
Anthony
Chandler?
Novak?

I would move anything that needs to be moved to get a low post presence on the offensive end. Keep Melo & Tyson, get a Milsap/Pekovic type player, and go from there.

Folks were questioning what the hell I was talking about when I said the Knicks needed to do whatever it took to get Nikola here this past offseason, now we have a team that is Melo or bust. I spoke about it in another thread, but when you load the side with Melo when he has the ball, his options are drive baseline and have Tyson's man step forward and it's a 2-on-1 contest of the shot....drive middle, and the "stopper" that's positioned there for the drive doubles him about 13-15 feet from the rim...take a contested shot, or pass the ball to swing it around.

When the shots aren't falling, the team is getting destroyed. There's no contingency plan, or even just a secondary portion of the offensive system.

A true post player with the proper mentality, vision, and footwork, gives the team a better chance to have a sustainable offense. Think more of a Celtics(2007)/Spurs tempo and effectiveness, as opposed to a Cavs (2005-2009) team that couldn't get past the Celtics or Spurs...this Knicks team is built more similarly to them than anything else, and those teams did nothing but get eliminated in the semis or ECF, except the one time they got swept outta the Finals...

Why though? the contracts on this team are built for 2015 to be an automatic rebuild year.

Also On the low the knicks will likely be able to move Camby since his contract is only about 3 million dollars guaranteed over the 2 year period. Yet, he can be moved for a player averaging the MLE. add that to the rookie (who give the knicks credit they know how to draft roleplayers) I think the knicks are good 2 solid additions to the rotations away from being more stable. That's the issue age and the fact this team is playing way to many mismatches at SF is what is hurting the knicks now. Also I always look at tony allen for comparisons to shump. Shump won't likely be back to top speed until next season.

So while right now this team has too many specialist and aged players. A few all around good ones should be acquirable if they don't overreact and instead just to fall back and rebuild naturally. I honestly expect the knicks to pick up a vet min pg and acquire 2 sf in other ways.

Scoot Brooks isnt allstar coach and he went to finals with OKC and from 0-2 they won 4-2 thats something really.

its players and their mentality

Spurs have parker currently quiet MVP
Nuggets have Lawson
Wiz's have Wall

Knicks have for now no one strong Felton is just for P&R and no one is driving into paint Knicks allowing any PG to drive into paint and any strong Pg can score easly 15 pts in 1st q.

i am cutting STAT WHITE THOMAS and i dont know bout COPELAND we still dont know a lot bout him

Chandler should stay, he's a good bigman even tho his game is down this season. He just needs a good PG to initiate good PnR with him.

Shump, as Metro pointed out, needs time to fully recover from his injury before we let him go.

Melo, should stay, but if he can't take this team anywhere past 1st round this year as well, then I'm all for letting him go. We've built a team around him and given him more than enough chance to prove that he's superstar material. The thing is, he's love for iso-ball has cost our team's offense and stagnated ball movement. He's the league's greatest scorer but that doesn't equal the league's greatest offensive player or efficient player.

JR Smith, feels like a poor man's version of Melo. Smith loves to iso-ball and stops ball movement as well. He's a great scorer but not an efficient player at all. Smith can have moments of brilliant offensive power, but it's not going to get us anywhere if he doesn't pass.

Felton - Go. I honestly think Felton is only going to get worse from here on, we really should have kept the young PG whose name we can't say around here.

STAT - If he can pick up his defense and rebounding, I don't mind him having a non-elite level of offensive game because we already have a bigman who can finish under the paint. But his contract does cost too much and he's not a max-worthy player should we should let him go.

Novak - Keep but limit his minutes to maybe 10. We just need to use him when we desperately need our 3 pointers to go thru.

Prigioni - Go. I don't think he's that good even for a backup PG. Look at Clipper's backup PG..now that's a championship team's backup PG.

Problem is our depth with our bigs, 2 down, Thomas not getting any burn. So Anthony has a mismatch at the 4? We're not winning with that mismatch. Sometimes you have to return to a more traditional lineup. Get KMart into the starting lineup if we need Amare's fire power off the bench. Sit Kidd, bring him off the bench, where he'll get to chew up backup point guards.

All the oportunity (from injuries) Woodson had to give our rookies Prig, White, and Copeland playingtime in a steady lineup to see if they can gell in the same lineup with teammates on both ends of the court so their performance evaluate whether they are keepers or not shows signs of a confuse coach.

Giving the three rookies spot minutes in so many different lineups, letting them start then DNP them afterward show a confuse coach.

Putting Camby in the starting-lineup with Tyson LOL, rather than let Camby & Stat come off the bench together as a frontcourt bigman tandem to backup our starters show a confuse coach.

Forcing a defensive-transition guard Shump to come back months early from an ACL injury to play against NBA starters in a Iso halfcourt setting shows a confuse coach.

Putting Felton, Shump, and Kidd in the starting-lineup shows a confuse coach.

Woodson confuse-coaching makes it hard to say who's a keeper, and who's not a keeper for next season.
