Why Woodson hasnt been FIRED?

He has had Carmelo Anthony on his side, and these days, that counts for a lot in New York. That?s the best way to explain how Knicks coach Mike Woodson has managed to keep his job.

By most accounts, Woodson should have been a goner long ago. The Knicks are 21-40, 6.5 games out of a playoff spot and needing to jump ahead of three teams, including two (Atlanta and Detroit) that hold a tiebreaker edge. New York closes with 12 of 21 on the road, and even if the Knicks somehow managed to go 14-7 to finish the year, the Hawks would need to go 8-16 to give the Knicks a playoff shot.

In other words, Woodson has led what was expected to be a contender in the East out of a playoff spot altogether.

Which begs the question: How the heck did he manage to stay on this long? For that answer, you have to go back two years, when Knick-dom was still in the waning throes of the Jeremy Lin phenomenon. Anthony, you?ll remember, had been injured for much of that oh-so-brief Linsanity phase, and when he returned the oil-and-water nature of Lin?s game vs. Anthony?s game became apparent. Lin needed the ball in his hands. Anthony needed it in his.

When the Knicks ran a losing streak to six games in mid-March that year, coach Mike D?Antoni (Lin?s main benefactor) paid the price and left the job by mutual agreement. Woodson took over and returned the reins to Anthony, tossing a bucket of cold water on what Lin had done the previous month.

Lin injured his knee shortly thereafter, but you can bet Woodson?s approach registered with Anthony?in what came down to a Lin vs. Anthony choice, the coach had his star?s back.

This year can be seen as Anthony returning the favor.

Having no-GM (puppet-Mills), did make Dolan and Melo comunication closer ..
We can not leave out the Knicks 15 year vets on the job Mills & Herb Williams

Why sabotage the team that was winning with Lin just because you want the spotlight. Seems childish not professional.

Getting rid of the PG that will control the offense .... and holding on to a Loser HC

The amnesty of player/coach/and team-leadership Mr. Chuancey Billups who presence give teammates confidence in performing like contender in every game was a super loss to the Knicks organization at the start of the 2011-12 season.

The Knicks showing no interest in resigning "LinSanity" after arbitration decision of making Lin a restricted FA during the 2012 offseason. Especially, when the sell of LinSanity Knicks jersey went through the roof in 3 months, plus Lin sold-out road games like Lebron/D.Wade.
That had to be the DUMMEST business decision the Knicks organization made in its history in the NBA...

Dumbest decision was picking up Billups for 14 million and then waiving him.......The buyout was 4 million if they did not pick up so the Knicks technically lost 10 million in 6 months..........Thats as dumb as dumb gets....and had Bibby signed to be our PG.....

it was a dumb move, but that was the only way we could have offered chandler his contract all under the cap not involving extra players..if we had waived billups, we could have only offered him 4 million less that what he got originally which wouldn't top the next offer.

woodson isnt fired yet because he is the guy who melo wanted to be coached by and removing him would increase the chances of melo leaving, but keeping him till after he resigns with the team in the offseason gives us that extra chance that he wills tay

That still was to many million$$$ to burn in amnesty for a center (worth $8M tops) we didn't need without having a bona-fide NBA PG.
When u evaluate the worth of Amare/Melo/Billups .... Billups team-leadership comes out to be the MVP

Dolan & Knicks brass are betting on a horse name Carmelo that will never come in first, second, or third...

Why give up a proven valuable Lin. Melo didn't like it.
