Official Trade Rumors Thread

“Teams are more hesitant to flip first-rounders and youngsters for impact performers who, while in their primes, will only get older and more expensive. Walker is a great point guard and top-30 player, and his contract (two years, $24 million remaining) ranks among the best in the league. But he's not Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler, and the prospect of paying him near-max money in 2019, when he's 29, will shape the quality of offers while scaring off most rebuilding squads.

In lieu of winning an unwinnable situation, the Hornets should focus on getting off Batum's pact. They owe him $99.1 million, including this season, through 2020-21, and he is most likely immovable without some sweeteners. And incentives don't get much better than top-10 point guards on the right side of 30.”

Charlotte Hornets Receive: PG/SG Ron Baker, C Enes Kanter, SF Doug McDermott, PG Frank Ntilikina

New York Knicks Receive: SG/SF Nicolas Batum, PG Julyan Stone, PG Kemba Walker

If we presume the Knicks are committed to a proper rebuild, then we believe they won't go after Walker.

Ergo, we do not believe they won't go after Walker.

Trying to accelerate what's supposed to be a gradual project would be so Knicks. They've already done it to some extent by signing Tim Hardaway Jr. last July. Never mind the player. Shelling out nearly $71 million for anyone over the age of 23 isn't a harbinger of patience or process.

Give the Knicks an opportunity to acquire a New York native who just so happens to play the position they've been unable to fill for roughly eternity, and they might be all over it.

To be fair, this package could look a lot worse for them. Losing Frank Ntilikina stings something awful, and Doug McDermott has proved to be a nice pickup from the Carmelo Anthony trade. But the Knicks aren't surrendering this year's first, nor are they giving up more than one player who factors heavily into their big picture.

Enes Kanter isn't a building block. His early-season shine has faded along with the teams' playoff hopes. Ron Baker is scrappy, but he's Ron Baker. McDermott would be good to keep around, but he's slated for restricted free agency and potentially a sizable raise.

Footing the bill for Batum has to be the Knicks' trump card. They're giving up a top-eight prospect in his rookie season who plays Walker's position. If the Hornets insist on this year's first or expanding the deal to lop off more salary, the Knicks should walk.

And that's if they even see it fit to talk shop in the first place.

I want Kemba Walker, but if we take Batum's contract back, holy cow, 2 seasons from now we'd still have 62 million a year invested in Noah, THJ, and Batum. Yikes. No way Mills/Perry take Batum without any options to shed Noah's contract.

After making All-Star guard Kemba Walker available for trades, the Hornets 'would like to' open negotiations with the Knicks, according to Ian Begley of ESPN.

According to Begley's report, talks haven't really gotten off the ground between the clubs. The Hornets want either a young player or draft pick while also shedding another contract, perhaps Marvin Williams, Nic Batum or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

The Knicks have a few young players, like Frank Ntilikina and Willy Hernangomez as well as their first-round draft pick this summer, but don't particularly have the room, or desire, to add cap space.

Walker, 27, is averaging 21.7 points on 42 percent shooting with 5.8 assists per game. He is owed $12 million this season and $12 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent after the 2018/19 season.

If the Hornets relent on their desire to shed another contract, the Knicks could make Walker's contract work by sending Doug McDermott and Kyle O'Quinn, both expiring contracts, to Charlotte with their first-round pick.

Just reading ESPN Insider article on possible trades for Kemba. Ridiculous what they have us offering, Nits Baker and Jack for Kemba. Cavs offer IT Frye and Nets 1st. If you're Cho which one do you think he takes. Other teams in the article are trading their starting PGs like Reggie Jackson Darren Collision or Rubio to get him.

Ntilikina, Baker, and Jack for Kemba Walker without us including a draft pick or taking back a terrible contract? Yeah, that?s a complete fantasy. In no world does Charlotte make that deal with us.

CHA not looking for Vets. So they don?t want Jax, Collison or Rubio. IT a free agent this summer. I seriously doubt Cavs trade the BKN pick... CHA wants young players and they want to dump bad contracts.

Teams that are willing to absorb a bad contract will be in play. The Knicks never get these guys... so I doubt MJ does us any favors.... Of course, there is the hope Kemba tells MJ to send him home, and MJ likes WHG and Knits and we absorb a MKG and finally have hope.

But, I don?t feel like Kemba is a game-changer. If we passed on Bledsoe then we?ll probably pass on Kemba too, unless CHA is reasonable in negotiations.

FWIW: ?It?s far from surprising that New York has surfaced as a potential destination for Walker, but it?s interesting to see the Hornets target the Knicks as a potential trade partner.

It?s worth noting that Walker is from the Bronx, which gives him obvious ties to a New York franchise. Thus, it?s within the realm of possibility that the Hornets spoke with Walker, asked him which team he?d like to play for, and learned that New York is near the top of the list.

Considering Walker has led the Hornets out of the darkness and through some of the best seasons in franchise history, reciprocating the loyalty would be an honorable move.

Under those circumstances, it would come as no surprise if Walker decided that a move back to the city he was born and raised in would be the best possible decision.

The Knicks are certain to have interest in an All-Star point guard who?s in the prime of his career at 27 years of age. The steep asking price will be a hurdle, however, as the Knicks would likely need to take on a bad contract and part with either a first-round draft pick or Frank Ntilikina.

It?s possible that the front office will be able to negotiate what they believe to be a fair asking price, but at this stage, all we can do is speculate.?

?????

I wonder if NYK can swing a Knits, 2018 protected pick, and Noah (CHA will use the stretch) then take Kemba and a bad contract. This is probably where talks begin.

This trade works over at NBA Trade Machine:

CHA: gets a young PG (and SG), a draft pick (2018 protected -top 12) and dumps 2 bad contracts....

NYK: Instantly becomes a playoff contender. This groups gets 30 games to figure things out, get adjusted, prepare for battle next season. KP is convinced org has what it takes to build a winner (meaning he will sign extension)

Knicks could send Knits.... giving CHA a Knits-Monk backcourt of the future, along with McDermot, Noah, Lee, Jack and Dotson. CHA uses flex on Noah, and the rest are expiring deals (other than Lee, who they should be able to flip to another team).

Meanwhile, NY gets Kemba and has to take back 2 bad contracts (Batum and MKG). Knicks do this for roster flexibility.... Batum is expensive but fits roster better than Noah, and MKG is an upgrade over LT.

Walker
THjr
MKG
KP
Kanter

Baker/Burke
Batum
MB/LT
WHG
KOQ

That?s a nice staying 5, with a 6th man in Batum and instant offense in MB to back up the SG/SF spots. KOQ and WHG the backup PF/C.... Baker and Burke the backup PGs.

Most importantly, NY finally gets a real NBA PG. With this, they now truly have a 1-2 All-star puch in Kristaps and Kemba. Timmy is ideal 3rd option.... they would boast 3 guys who can create their own offense.

Plus, this doesn?t violate the rebuild process. Getting younger (check) and getting guys who want to be here (check). Kemba and MKG are both under 28.

They would have depth.... and scoring off the bench. Batum and MKG and LT and KOQ all can bring defense when needed...

This doesn?t elevate them to championship level, but if LeBron bolts for Western Conf after the season, the East is wide open.

They could flex Batum if they choose.... but this roster would attract vets and specialty players to come ?win? on MLEs.

This is also a youngish roster.... this trade frees up WHG.... MKG is only 25 so
He could be a real gem wedged between the special-K trio of Kristaps, Kemba, Kanter.

Not sure if Charlotte would trade all
Of that just for a 1st and some
Of our guys..

And MKG is still young, makes more sense for knicks to take on walker and batum in exchange for Frankie, Lee and Oquinn or Frankie, Lee and a first, etc. the rest is semantics.

I?d rather keep Lee he?s been solid but this is his peak.

This is clearly an organization with no plan seriously. KCP was a pre THJR signing target not post target. Unless we're about to unload some bodies at deadline, this move wreaks of as if IT is still around running things...

i keep seeing the word 'great' being thrown around... can someone please define the word for me.... and if oquinn is 'great'
what is the word to describe KD/'bron/etc...

He?s great if we take it in perspective and great in how efficient he plays his role which is an aggressive rebounding, shot blocking energizing big man off the bench which is a staple to many teams.

In only 17 minutes a game He is shooting nearly 60% fg, 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block and efficient at the ft line

If his minutes were doubled?

14 ppg, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and efficient at the line as always.

Enes Kanter has 13 ppg, 10 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 25 min a game and we?d say he?s having a career year...

You could make the argument that Oquinn would provide the same offensive efficiency, same rebounding, and better overall defense and shot blocking

Quinn is a great Big body in the paint on offense/defense, plus play both center n PF position well .. Quinn will score inside the paint, pass tje ball well after grabbing offense/defense rebounds, box out, screens n has a nice touch on the pick n roll.
Plus Quinn has no problem scoring or rebounding when opponents play him physically.

It's midseason now where the majority of NBA teams win from their coaching ..
Last night games ..
the Houston Rox Dantoni's tandem Hardaway/CP3 pulled out a crunchtime win over a relentless Miami Heat coach Spoe team-ballin rotation.
The Dallas Mavs coach Carlisle became real creative in Dallas to pull out a win over The Wizards coach Brooks n his star tandem backcourt of Wall/Beal.
The Wolves coach Thibs 9 man rotation played strong defense in crunch time for the win over the Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
The Pelicans coach Gentry had to pull out all his weapons especially Cousins tripple-double (44 pts, 24 tbs, 10 ast) plus cousins late 3 pt shooting to win in double overtime against the Chicago Bulls coach Hoelberg young core players.

Pretty sure the Knicks are going to move one if their bigs. WHG would be my choice, small contract that won't be hard to move and his name is one that is mentioned when the Knicks talk to other teams.

The Knicks has been one of the NBA worst road teams throughout the 2017-18 season having a 6-17 road record (21-26 record), mainly from their DNP of Noah and WHG throughout season, plus the Knicks collapse performance in the 4th quarter of the game from poor substitution and poor guard play during 2nd half of the game. The Knicks head coach does not have a plan or a system for the Knick players to co-exist on the court.
Future star KP performance has prove consistently to be weak as a starter and extra weak as a finisher especially in Knicks road games.
Trading Noah or WHG or Quinn in February would be a foolish move for Knicks management when the head coach has been clueless on how to play the 3 big men in the rotation.
