Game Thread: New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons 7:00 12/22/2017 [Game #32]

Hornacek is costing us this game. He leaves Jack out there on Jackson and we get burned yet again. Trail by 1 with 24 seconds to go. Just stupid.

We’ve played a good game tonight, but Hornacek really screwed up leaving Jack out there. Jackson eating him alive in the 4th. Game is now tied.

44 seconds to go and our ball.
I was just going to say Horn has been a wizard with his subs but you may be right.

Wow, that is about as bad as you can bungle the last 90 seconds of a game. We lose by 3.

Could have been a win but Hornacek decided watching Jack get abused by Jackson on 4 straight possessions wasn?t reason enough to go to Ntilikina. Our last 2 offensive possessions were pretty terrible too.

Not a bad effort considering it was the second game of a back-2-back and we were on the road.... but.... we had a 2 possession lead with 90 seconds left and choked it away....

Jack with 3 fouls awarding DET 6 FTs, Baker with an awful turnover, Lee bricks the game-winner and KP missed 2 threes. Game over.

KP awoke in second half and almost carried team home in 4th. Nonetheless.... more of the same.

HORN hasn?t realized that more often than not.... we win with Frank on the floor to close games out.... Jack, Lee and Baker just cost us a needed victory.

Stull wondering why Lee, not KP, took that shot and how Baker throws ball away coming out of a timeout!

Hard fought but CLee gets rejected at the rim trying to create a shot under the rim and Porzingis takes an impossible 45ft 3 as the last shot of the game. Knicks go down 104-101.

I wanted a play set up for Beasley, with KP being the back-up plan. Doesn't make sense for Lee to have been doing all that dribbling. Just get a shot up or pass quickly so if you miss you can foul and still have time.

They played a tough game, but very bad ending. Gotta learn from it.

Need to see #kporzee expand his game to be a little more team oriented. Not that he's selfish but he is without question a total beneficiary of a system using the skills he has but it doesn't bleed onto the rest of the team. As the season is dragging on his high usage isn't paying off as much as it was earlier in the season.

6-4 without THJR

1-5 without #kporzee

Need to play Knits more and to be quite honest I'm ready to see him become a starter

The Pistons dominated the first half of this game for the most part. The Knicks dominated the third quarter. The fourth quarter was back and forth, and then the Knicks really choked down the stretch. They had numerous chances to win this game, and made some poor decisions trying to close the game out.

That ending was difficult to watch as they couldn't even get a shot off. Lee tried to play hero ball, and turned it over twice. He has got to find Porzingis there or the open man, and he failed both times. That's an inexcusable final two possessions for the Knicks.

It was nice to see Porzingis rebound from a career bad game last night, and score 39. He had some questionable shot selections, but he should have had the ball those last couple of possessions. Also, why is Michael Beasley not in the game on those final possessions? That's horrible coaching from Jeff Hornacek. No other way to slice it. Beasley drops 32 points last night, and only sees the floor 13 minutes tonight. There is no reason on two offensive possessions when you need a bucket that he isn't on the floor. Hornacek has done a bad job at times making adjustments in games, and had some questionable moves once again tonight.

The saga continues. The Knicks are now 2-10 on the road. They can't find a way to win games away from MSG, and it's going to continue to haunt them. They had a chance tonight to get into the top five in the standings in the East. Instead, they continue to prove they can only win at home. Six of the next eight Knicks games are on the road, so this stretch coming up is a pivotal point of the season. If they continue losing on the road, they'll be a sub-.500 team.

Something has got to give.

You bring up the 2-10 record and I saw Hahn tweet Knicks have the next 13 of 17 on the road. THJR probably won't be back another 10 days, so if they plan on making the playoffs this stretch of games will be determine everything

One of those home games was against Brooklyn, which is like a home game. Maybe this will be good for them though. Having that many home games in that time period is very strange. Maybe it made them too comfortable.

Unless Horn finds a regular role for Beasley or someone that can provide Tim's scoring punch I don't expect them to win many. The MSG crowd is an adrenalin boost for them they miss on the road.

Ignoring the ?road? Brooklyn win, we haven?t won on the road since winning in Cleveland on October 29th.

We haven?t won a game outside the state of NY in 2 months!

HORN was direlect in his coaching responsibilities last night. MBeas hears MVP chants at MSG, and wins the game vs BOS, then hardly plays in DET? How he managed the final 2 minutes should be isolated and showcased as what not to do for future NBA coaches.

We?ll allow some growing pains.... but, come on, Jack should always be on a short leash based on performance and matchups.

Indeed, just like last season, Jan either flushes the toilet on this season and sends us to the lottery races or it propels us to a 6-8 seed... and a rare playoff appearance.

Agreed he has a propensity to play Jarrett jack who can?t defend a child, and Thomas who can?t make a shot for his life.

Hornacek has done admirably well in his overall coaching responsibilities. Where he fails is his reliance on specific players at times of games that require players with other skill sets. When jack is getting destroyed by opposing point guards and scoring only 2 points in 30 minutes..then we should bring in ntilikina or even baker who provide more defensive tenacity.
When Thomas is providing defense but can?t make any shots and loses ball aimlessly trying to create his own shot, then it should be a red flag to hornacek that he?s benching Michael Beasley who can score 30 points when hot.

He needs to tweak his rotation and begin to give ntilikina minutes over jack and Beasley minutes over Thomas. Even starting to two over the other.
