Road to Zion

According to the Post, Dolan asked Mills what he thought about asking PE to represent team on the dais...

??I texted Patrick, asked him to give me a call,? Mills added. ?He called me back that night. I told him what we?d be asking him to do. What we?d like him to consider. I said I?d love him to do it. He said, ?Hopefully I can do it, but I have to make sure my scouting schedule doesn?t coincide with lottery day.? I sent him information and timing. He came back and said, ?I?d love to do it.'?

With the NBA?s worst record at 17-65, the Knicks will have a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery under its new format. They share the top odds with Phoenix and Cleveland. In years past, the team with the worst record had a 25 percent chance.

However, there are a couple of good omens. As The Post?s Mike Vaccaro has reported, the Knicks also had roughly a 14 percent chance of winning the Ewing lottery back in 1985, when all seven non-playoff teams shared the same odds.

There is also another Ewing number theory floating about. If you take Ewing?s ?33″ jersey number plus the No. 1 pick, it?s been ?34? years since ?The Big Fella? was drafted by the Knicks.?

This article recaps yet another Jax blunder... he dealt away NYK 2019 second rounder. This is likely to be first pick of second round!!!! A valuable pick.... more valuable than picks in the 22-30 range.

NYK make deal Knits to get a pick in this range and to save 5 mil on cap...

Also, a reminder ...If Mavs leap up from 9 into top 5... Knicks have to wait a year (get first rounders in 2022 & 2024, instead of 2021 & 2023). How devastating would it be to have Mavs jump ahead of NYK this draft? It could happen...

Definitely could happen, Mavs have a better than 1 in 4 shot 26.5% of getting in the top 4 and probably 1 in 3 chance of getting in the top 5, thats a better chance than us getting the number 1 pick.

Any of the higher ranked teams could jump us but the Mavs would hurt a little more because of those future draft picks. Future picks like those become trade chips instead of picks.

I was watching the Spurs/Nugs game and SA has a playoff team with a starting lineup Poertl, White, Forbes, LA and DeRozan so Mills and Perry and Mills can turn this around with signings of KD, KI, JB etc. Knicks need to spend that money this year, FA pool is not as deep next year.

The Knicks won the tank race, now they need a lot more than a 14% miracle and lots of luck to receive the 1st pick of the draft .. ZION !!!

The Knicks Mills/Perry will have less than a $40M cap in the offseason to sign a few FA players ..
I'm curious why would a team that has won just one playoff series in the past 18 years, coming off one of the worst seasons in franchise history, feel so good about turning things around? Is it a trick? or are they confident on signing FA ???
Kevin Durant.
Why would Durant come to the Knicks when he could stay with the Golden State Warriors or sign with other teams with stronger supporting casts, such as the LA Clippers or Brooklyn Nets, or probably go back to OKC?

For some unknown reason .. I believe Adam Silver has already select the team ZION are going to SMH
Wow! Did the Mavs really get the best of the KP trade?
Then resigning DJ in the off-season is a MUST to get something positive out of the KP trade.
The Spurs starting 5 lineup has the Top-1 best strategic head-coach in the NBA !!!

The Georgia Tech head coach thinks RJ may be the better player against Zion but because of the hype surrounding Zion teams have to pick Zion or they're going to get run over by their fans. I've been saying the same things about Zion as he expresses in the article. He thinks Zion and RJ are both better than Ja because they played and performed well in better competition than Ja did. Maybe the hard choice comes down to whose better Ja or RJ if Zion is gone when we pick, we probably select RJ because we have more depth at PG with DSJ, Mudiay, Nits, Kadeem unless Ja really blows up during his workouts. May 14 a few weeks away.

Selecting Zion 2-Way performance to be our future 30 minute PF would be great!
Selecting RJ 2-Way performance would take all of Knox & Dotson minutes at the SF & SG position would be awesome!
Selecting Ja outstanding offense performance would lead to trading 1 or 2 of our young-core guards if we plan on adding a FA guard to the roster.

We?ve endured 33 consecutive drafts where we?ve failed to leap up; recently, we slipped from worst to second to worst at season?s end, and that pushed us down from 2 to 4... missing out on KAT and DR...

We had same exact odds in 1985 (first lottery) as we do this time...

Ewing will be sitting on the dais for NYK.

It?s time!

I want 1 so bad... but will be fine with top 3.

I get the odds are better.... and I get that most years the worst record fails to secure top pick...

But...

What is there left to do? Hope the fix is in?

Ian Begley reporting that some within NYK org love Cam Reddish.

No! Run! Nightmare scenario.

This is shaping up to be a Jordan Hill type downer... miss out of Steph Curry and end up with crapola.

I pray they trade the pick for Beal, or AD, or future picks... anything but wasting the 4th or 5th pick on a dude I don?t even want playing for Duke next year. He?s awful!

Drafting a guy bc he physically looks the part is so typical NYK. Ignore fact he?s a mental
pushover, with the competitive drive of a caterpillar. Put him with Knits and Knox and we can have the all-time most passive afraid to demonstrate any leadership or fire starting unit ever to share the court at same time.

I don?t even want them trading back into first round for this bum.

Anyway... I sense it already. I thought Yankee comeback tonight was a good omen... then I see this report. Bank it: we end up with 4th pick. We depressed for 2 months, holding our hope for some miracle to happen... only to watch weak ass Cam walking up to podium putting on a NYK cap.

Sorry, Folks.

A man can only take so much. I?m out if this happens.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, some of New York's talent evaluators envision Cam Reddish "translating well to the NBA" even though he didn't live up to expectations in his one season with the Blue Devils.

Begley made a point of noting "this is not to say the Knicks will certainly target Reddish if they end up picking fourth or fifth," but just that there are members of the team who believe in him.

Reddish, a 6-foot-8 freshman, averaged 13.5 points on 35 percent shooting last season. The 19-year-old didn't shoot well from beyond the arc, but those in the Knicks' front office who like Reddish see his game translating well to the NBA.

Knicks president Steve Mills and GM Scott Perry said on MSG Network's MSG 150 on Monday that the club has prepared all season for different scenarios in the draft.

"We've seen and we know a lot about the people we need to know about," Mills said.

LOL. We?re totally going to end up with Cam Reddish. Whenever you imagine the worst case scenario for this franchise, that?s more or less what happens.

David Fizdale confirms Knicks would take Zion Williamson No.1; talks free agent strategy

Fiz also agreed Morant is a better shooter and passer than Wade was at this point in his career

Ian Begley, SNY.tv | Twitter |

Knicks coach David Fizdale confirmed what we've all assumed for months: if New York wins the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night, the club will pick Duke sensation Zion Williamson.

"If we win the lottery, do we know who we're taking?" the Knicks coach said in an interview with the "Dan Patrick Show."

"Yes."

Patrick then jokingly said, "OK, let's bring out Zion Williamson" and Fizdale laughed. If there was ever any doubt that the Knicks would take Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick (there shouldn't have been), it's all erased now.

The Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers all have a 14 percent chance of landing the No. 1 pick. They have a 40 percent chance of landing a top-three pick and a 48 percent chance of getting the No. 5 pick. Since New York finished with the worst record in the NBA, the club will pick no lower than fifth.

The draft order will be determined on Tuesday evening.

Fizdale was asked by Patrick if Williamson or Murray State point guard Ja Morant -- a presumptive top-three pick -- would fit New York's roster.

"I think just for us, our roster is so open from that standpoint that we can have a lot of things fit us right now," Fizdale said. "Obviously, we always want the biggest talent. You want to see electric players. And both of those guys are that."

Fizdale added that he doesn't believe you can compare Williamson -- a 6-7, 285-pound forward -- to any previous or current players.

"He's his own guy, he's unique," the coach said.

When Patrick suggested that Morant is a better shooter and passer than Dwyane Wade was at this point in his career, Fizdale agreed. Knicks president Steve Mills and GM Scott Perry said that they have been preparing for the draft for the entire season, an approach that most franchises take.

As evidence that they aren't just paying attention to the top three prospects, some Knicks talent evaluators are fans of Duke forward Cam Reddish, per SNY sources.

This is not to say that the Knicks will certainly target Reddish if they end up picking fourth or fifth. There is a long way to go between now and when they're on the clock on June 20. But Reddish does have New York talent evaluators who think highly of him.

The Knicks will interview multiple prospects in Chicago next week at the NBA Draft Combine. Fizdale, who participated in those interviews last year, said they can be instructive.

"I want to know the true kid. I want to know who they are," he said. "I want to hear the truth from them. I want to hear honest answers. I want to hear the raw. We do so much background on these guys, and so when we start getting into their background, you can ask pointed questions to get into the character of the kid, type of worker they are, how hungry they are, what kind of leader they are. I like to hear that face to face."

As far as free agency goes, Fizdale said he will talk to potential free agents about the relationship he has with his players.

"Paint the picture from a coaching standpoint of what the Knicks are becoming," Fizdale said of his approach in meetings. "And try to really make players understand the type of relationship I'm trying to build as a coach and the type of team I'm trying to build to ultimately win a title."

New York will likely meet with several top free agents, including Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving, in early July.

Several of Durant's current and former teammates told friends during the regular season that they expect him to sign with the Knicks this summer, sources say.

New York will have enough cap space to sign two max free agents.

The first piece of the offseason puzzle will be put into place Tuesday night at the draft lottery in Chicago. The Knicks, Cavaliers and Suns each have a 14 percent chance at procuring the first-overall pick. DraftKings Sportsbook in New Jersey currently has all three teams listed as 6/1 to have the golden pingpong ball.

PointsBet in New Jersey also currently offers the same prices on the top three lottery teams but to no one?s surprise, the Knicks are getting the plurality of the bets.

?This is the first year bettors in the tri-state area will be able to make legal wagers on the NBA draft lottery and the local team [is] accounting for nearly 45 percent of the total money wagered on the top-pick market. The Suns are a distant second at 12 percent,? said Matthew Chaprales, head of content at PointsBet USA.

Every mock draft shows Duke forward Zion Williamson selected No. 1 overall, and DraftKings has followed suit, pricing him at 1/25 (-2500). In fact, PointsBet is not even currently offering a prop on the top overall selection but is instead offering one on who will be the second player picked. According to Chaprales, they have seen a few bets on Zion at 12/1 to be the No. 2 pick. Murray State guard Ja Morant is the small favorite in this market at -143. Nonetheless, Duke guard RJ Barrett is seeing the most action at even money. The next two choices are Texas Tech wing Jarrett Culver at 17/1 and Vanderbilt point guard Darius Garland at 25/1.
