Allonzo Trier nearly triple-doubled in a 115-108 loss to Detroit on Tuesday with 24 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and one triple in 31 minutes.
He was 7-of-11 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line, setting career-highs in boards, assists and free throws. The undrafted rookie has now posted two big lines in his last three games, averaging 19.7 points, 7.3 boards, 4.0 assists and 1.3 triples in that span. Courtney Lee (neck) will be returning soon but is still on the trade block, and with coach David Fizdale and the front office on the same page in regards to player development, Trier has a clear path to big minutes going forward. His two-way contract is a lock to be converted into a guaranteed deal once his 45 days of eligibility are up, but the Knicks will have to cut someone else.
