Porzingis wants to be traded

You think it makes sense for KP to sign his qualifying offer instead of his rookie extension? We didn’t offer him a rookie extension, but presumably Dallas is going to do it (if they haven't already). Maybe I just don’t understand the specifics, but that seems like a huge financial risk to maintain the flexibility to possibly change teams in the 2020 offseason.

He backed off of this within hours of it making it into the atmosphere. They're going to do exactly like we were hoping to do...you know have his bird's rights and wait to sign in the summer for cap space reasons. He was mad emotional cuhz he was traded and felt embarrassed he was dealt so quickly. He'll agree to sign with them on or before July 1st

That makes a lot more sense.

Why wouldn't he want to play with Doncic? Why wouldn't he accept the torch pass from Dirk? Like why do we as Knick fans think there's always 2-3 layers of alternate universe when it comes to players in this league?

He clearly post to Doncic about having fun, he can't do it this yr because he's going to sit out. So he's going to leave to L.A. or Boston and have fun with Doncic from afar?

Dallas ain?t LA, and he was influenced by a banana boat crewman Melo. You would think he would jump at 150 mil... be a free agent again at 28...

If he hadn't made that IG post and was signed to Klutch Sports I could follow you here Maf, otherwise this is just conspiracy talk. He'll be a Mav in a few months, matter of fact we'll find out before the draft this is a done deal.

One thing is for sure he ain't making his way back here...lol at the summary of his career as a Knick. Especially 3rd and 5th line. Something personal took place not sure what it was

Games played line is hilarious. Not to mention how ineffectual he was in about half of those actual games played.

Yeah, credit Perry for not being held hostage here. Glad KP was shocked bc he called our bluff and thought he was irreplaceable.

The Knicks could have traded Porzingis before the 2017 draft to Phoenix for Devin Booker and been in position to draft Lauri Markkanen, according to sources.

Time will tell if this trade turns out better than the deal that was shelved in 2017 (and ended up getting Jax fired).

Wait, the version of this story that I always read was that PJ asked for Booker and the #4 pick for KP before the 2017 draft and the Suns laughed at him.

The Post article suggests otherwise...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2019/02/03/now-porzingis-can-fire-back-after-knicks-president-shrugs-off-blame/amp/

I do recall there were conflicting reports, with some saying Booker straight up was the deal and others saying a 1st... I believe PJax wanted both, and likely had the offer... went to Dolan and that got him fired. Who knows tho.

Maybe we would?ve swapped picks? Took LM over Frank?

Typical Knicks tho. Of all the crappy moves Phil made, his best and probably only good decision was the one that was vetoed and cost him his job.

Most likely the Knicks not showing him the love giving him that extension while he was injured. Knicks made the right move not only because of questions about his health but opening up cap space by not giving it to him but he felt slighted. Seemed to really like NYC but he saw the reality that the Knicks sucked and weren't winning anything by improving organically through the draft as Mills always says and that would take years.

Even tho it is less odds at 4... it?s not that much different. 14%!vs 12% or something. So, as long as they don?t drop to 5th or something it should be fine. ATL is already like 5-6 games ahead, so i doubt we win enough to drop to 5th.

I wonder what happens if PHO wins lottery. Ja a better fit for them than Zion.. If we get second or third and they get 1st, could Frank and a future first be enough to swap?

It?s a good idea.

Only issue is that the new regime has consistently stated that they don?t want to trade picks.

I guess if the Knicks drop to even 4 we are okay as we will most likely not resign Matthews and have a gaping hole at SG for a guy like RJ Barret if we can?t get Zion.

Very difficult to do when one of those organic pieces misses over 100gms in 3 seasons. Again he comes off much like the major figure head player we got rid of before him...IT'S NEVER THEIR FAULT ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE

Perry just got here too, sorry it didn't align with his rookie scale contract. He'll be introduced by Mavs today let's see how lippy he gets I'm sure he has much more to say

Pretty tame introductory presser in Dallas. The big questions will he play this season and will he sign a long term deal with the Mavs. Looks like his team never had plans to play this season even after the Feb evaluation, maybe caused some friction with the Knicks if the medical staff deemed him healthy enough to play and he wanted to sit out until next season denying the Knicks a look at him before signing him to a long term deal. Also maybe part of the reason he was missing practices when he knew he didn't plan to play until next OCT.

Cuban skirted the issue when he jumped in when reporters asked KP if he was going to sign a long term deal. Cuban of course said yes the Mavs were going to sign him to a long term deal and KP jokingly said "There you Go". Didn't really answer the question but it would be ballsy for the kid to sign a QO offer for a few million and forgo a 150M deal so he could become a UFA in 2020.

Would be funny if KP is so pissed that his brother negotiated him out of NYC that he returns and signs with Nets. I?m rooting for that to happen.

Never did the math myself, but Alan Hahn just said that when KP 1st plays for the Mavs next season that he will have been out of action for 20 months. Wow. Some people could argue that we were lucky the Mavs valued him as high as they did.

Is this what KP meant by ?Stay Woke??

https://nypost.com/2019/02/05/kristaps-porzingis-brother-wanted-a-bigger-role-with-knicks/

DALLAS ? Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle is off to a flying start in dealing with Janis Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis? influential brother/agent who paved the way for his departure from New York.

During Monday?s introductory press conference here, Carlisle gave a shout-out to Janis and Porzingis? personal physiotherapist from the Spanish League, Manolo Valdivieso, who has lived with Kristaps in New York the past two seasons.

Valdivieso was at the Mavericks? practice facility Tuesday as Porzingis went to work out in the weight room, already getting access. Carlisle revealed he had a two-hour meeting with Janis on Sunday and called him part of ?our team.??

Janis, who had a modest European playing career, wanted to be a bigger part of the Knicks? team, too. According to sources, Janis asked for jobs for some members of Porzingis? entourage. But nothing ever materialized.

It?s not uncommon for these type of jobs to be granted to a team?s superstar. When Carmelo Anthony was a Knick, Asani Swann was on the Knicks payroll with an official position, director of player relations. Swann was Anthony?s longtime branding manager and worked solely with Anthony.

Amare Stoudemire?s security man, Max Cayard, was named to the Knicks security staff soon after Stoudemire signed. When Anthony and Stoudemire moved on, so did Swann and Cayard.

Ultimately, Knicks brass could never satisfy Janis, whom Kristaps believes in fully. Janis felt the franchise, based on its history with Steve Mills? past performance, was not moving in a winning direction.

During Thursday?s fateful meeting with Knicks brass, Janis delivered a list of teams high on Porzingis? list with whom he?d want to re-sign long term ? with the Spurs, Raptors, Nets and Clippers included, according to a source.

The Mavericks were not on the list ? which is likely why Mavs owner Mark Cuban intercepted a question to Porzingis on Monday about his long-term future. However, money is important to the Porzingis family and nobody within the Mavericks organization believes he?d sign a one-year qualifying offer and pass on $154 million.

According to sources, Janis Porzingis became a severe thorn in Phil Jackson?s side, staging Kristaps? missed exit meeting after the 2016-17 season. Jackson wanted to trade Porzingis at the 2017 trade deadline because he got bad vibes from Janis regarding Porzingis? future.

Jackson could have hauled in a package from Phoenix including Devin Booker that also would have netted Lauri Markkanen in the draft.

Janis also decided his brother?s offseason rehab should take place at Real Madrid instead of the Hospital for Special Surgery.

?Janis wanted the kingdom,?? one source familiar with the situation told The Post.

The Knicks had no idea when they drafted Porzingis that Janis would loom this large.

?He?s the big brother and wants to protect him and I?m sure over the years his ego and confidence in handling Kristaps has grown,?? one NBA source said. ?It could also be the Knicks? fault. You have to set boundaries ? but they allowed him everywhere and that created Janis knowing and seeing everything.?

Porzingis initially was represented by Andy Miller, who had a good relationship with the Knicks. Janis joined Miller?s powerful ASM Sports agency but that no longer exists.

Cuban has an over-the-top personality, so his relationship with Janis bears watching. Knicks brass no longer has to worry about it.

Carlisle did not put any of the traded ex-Knick players in his starter lineup ..
Our inexperience TANK-TANK Fizdale couldnt wait to put all 3 ex-Mav players DSJ Wes and D.Jordan in the starter lineup.
Timmy and Burke are getting a couple minutes off the bench tonight.

Just read online that the Kings rejected a trade of either De'Aaron Fox or Marvin Bagley for Porzingis. Despite contrary reports, I still think Phoenix told us to piss off when we asked for Devin Booker for KP. Pelicans didn't want KP for Anthony Davis. Given that it is now clear we had to move KP or risk getting nothing for him, we may very well have found the one team in Dallas that was willing to make a reasonable trade with us before it was too late.

There?s no precedent for 7?3? men returning from serious ACL injury. It helps he?s more of a perimeter player... still...

Could NY play him and showcase him Nov-Feb next season? Sure, and if he returned to form he would?ve fetched a lot more... albeit the issue would?ve been that he could dictate bc of his impending free agent status. So, we acted and got fair value.
