The Obi Movement is here.

Even Randlesexuals will admit, Obi needs more burn.

Everyone on this forum can admit: We're a slow team, we play at a sluggish pace and even though it helps our defense out, our offense lacks a dynamic approach because majority of it is WAITING for Randle to set up his low efficiency offense.

Obi is the antidote for slow paced basketball. He's easily our best full court player with his long strides and sprints down the court, not only on offense but also on defense.

Obi's biggest improvement this season is his lateral quickness and post game up. Seeing Obi just son Zach Lavine on the mismatch shows the possibilities of Obi's game from the inside.

The biggest grip on Obi is his 3pt% shooting. This is the NBA, you've had guys like Ariza start out as terrible 3pt shooters and turn into corner specialist. Obi's jumpshot development will be the catalyst to him being an end game starter. Pace tends to slow down in the 4th, his shooting has been better this month, he's almost back to 30% and I believe next season he can be a 34-35% shooter.

the past 5 games Obi has been shooting 35% from 3PT

^ in this mismatch, with switching defenses, Obi can abuse alot of defenders. Defenders get caught off guard with Toppin's guard like quickness and he's 6"9 with hops and can finish around the rim. This only gives the Knicks the advantage.

Randle isn't a fit with RJ Barrett, who's the alpha and leader of this team. Randle's diva personality doesn't allow him to co-exist with talent. Big reason why Lakers let him walk and renounced him. Randle is a fake stretch big, career 32% 3pt shooter. Stat pads for assist(high turnovers come with his assist) and rebounds(gives up tons of rebounds just to get a measly 9-10 rebounds).

Obi D. Toppin is our starting big next to Robinson.

I was very positive on Toppin his rookie season and my enthusiasm for his skill set has re-emerged with his play recently.

His efficiency inside the 3 point line on offense is undeniable. If his 3 point shooting continues to improve, then he will be a legitimate offensive weapon.

On paper, this team could be starting MRob, Toppin, RJ, Grimes, and Quickley day 1 next year. This would be a lottery team, but fans would prefer this over a lottery team of veterans playing heavy minutes.

But, that would require our front office to successfully re-sign MRob, which I get the feeling they are going to screw up.

It also would require the front office being able to move some veteran contracts. I don?t think that?s what our front office will do this off-season. I think instead they will do the usual of adding whatever few veterans are willing to play for us and next year will be rinse and repeat.

I'm a BIG fan of Obi Toppin's skills & talent, but coach Thibs lack of preparation of Obi Toppin for 2 seasons never given Obi the playing time to get familiar with his opponents talents, or given a proper PF role to play, or given the playing time to make mistakes, and fix his mistakes on the court.
Sorry to say, the Knicks second season PF-Obi Toppin and combo-guard Quickley have not been prepared to be a NBA starter. Maybe next season! They did put in the time and effort in the Summer League Games to be starters by the midseason games, just didn't receive the regular season playing time.

Truth be said .. RJ Barrett is not a NBA starter! Every time I watch RJ Barrett I see so many areas he lack in his performance to be a starter or a finisher, Barrett has gotten to the point where he expect all his inconsistency in a game. In so many Knicks games this season we have watch Barrett have 1 great quarter, and 3 horrible quarters averaging nine minutes in each quarter.

In one season, Quickley picked up a lot of D.Rose creative leadership habits, and in 3 seasons RJ Barrett has picked up to many habits of Randle !!!

Obi shooting 25% from 3

Obi shooting 35% from 3PT the last 5 games.

Randle been shooting 30% all season, along with all the turnovers Randle brings. Randle isn't some 40% 3PT like the fluke suggest.

Toppin isn't just "exciting", he's way more effective in a line up to push the pace and play dynamic defense.

but as far as shooting goes

Randle:

40% FG
30% 3PT
75% FT

Yea, you're overrating Randle by a giant stretch and it makes no sense because Randle easily put up one of the worst offensive seasons by any rotational player who plays 30 minutes + a 270lb big who shoots 40% FG and 30% 3PT isn't really something to suggest that he's an offensive juggernaut.

30% 3PT also isn't a alot for Toppin to catch up with. If Toppin hits 33-35% any season, he's basically ahead of Randle already. Randle isn't a high measure for good offense.

Wsup Metro .. That video of early-season performance u put up of Toppin & D.Rose fast break scoring says a lot of what I had expect to see from the Knicks in the 2021-22 season.
Having a healthy (24 minute) D.Rose leadership on the court having Quickley's creativeness and Obi Toppin speed & Hops as a trio lineup throughout midseason games .. That would've had coach Thibs challenging for COY repeat. If .. if the Knicks front office would've signed Dinwiddie and Kemba, plus resign last-season Knicks starter Bullocks.

Obi Toppin! The Knicks High-Lighter .. could use a big-man coach in offseason added to the coaching-staff to work on the Bigs inside scoring for next season ..
Here are four Knicks players that co-exist well in a lineup ....
So far the Knicks best winning backcourt guards are D.Rose & Quickley.
And the Knicks offense/defense winning Front-court are Obi Toppin & MitchRob.
The above four man lineup above will do well with any-one of the Knicks same-position (G/F) players ..
RJ Barrett, or Burks, or Fournier, or Grimes.

I think we?re talking about 2 different things. Randle has disappointed and he should go. Yes.

But that doesn?t turn Obi into a starter. Toppin is shooting 26% from downtown this season. He Needs to be more assertive rebounder, get to FT line more.

I don?t agree with notion that Obi steps in for Randle and we are better. Obi isn?t the player Randle is.
