Howmuch Can You Possibly Blame On A Head Coach?

Toons

Ok, just fishing for an opinion form u guys....yeah, the coach draws up plays....great, but in every play, there are first, second and third options, on offense. No play in a playbook is designed to fail...NONE...all plays have 1 goal....to score points. On defense, do we have a special kind of non effective zone? or man defense than everyone else in the league? no, a zone is a zone....can we blame isiah for letting the opposing team average point totals in the hundreds? is he 100% the blame? last time i recalled, the knicks have a coaching staff....offensive specialists, defensive specialists and a head coach...when we lose, we blame isiah, when we win, we glorify players.....it just dosent add up to me....granted that isiah is my least favorite knick right now....but just percentage wise....how much of our losses were his fault....and can i please get responses from people who watched the games?

Isiah Thomas doesn't deserve 100% of the blame, but he's definitely at least 40% of the blame. He did the trades for these players with big contracts and that lack defense, offense, and pride. He also gave away a total of 4 draft picks in his career as GM.The other 20% goes to Scott Layden, the fool who traded Patrick Ewing, after getting the Knicks to the NBA finals in 99' and the conference finals in 2000, the players also get 20% of the blame for not giving it 100% every night, and 20% goes to the idiot Dolan, who gave Isiah the 4 year 24 million dollar extension in the first place.

Isiah deserves 98% of the blame. The other 1% is for Dolan for letting him and 1% for Hines our trainer for letting our players get so out of shape and be injury prone. I'm telling you guys, once I graduate and get certified and build some experience, I will be your new Knicks trainer; making sure every rotation player is active for 82 games a season in top shape!

Roger Hinds is just there to make his money. You can tell he doesn't care about what he does or the Knicks.I don't blame him, though.I'd become a head trainer for a team I don't care about, if I get guaranteed cash.Good for him.

Your Post makes alot of sense for the next NBA Team Coaches, but not for President/Coach Isiah Thomas.
Isiah Thomas ruled this Knick disaster from the start of his Knick tour in 2003-4 season. He did not have a PLAN when he accepted the job. Yet, he humiliated all of Laydumb 15 player roster and the Head Coach.

This Knick-Team has not showed a "PLAY-BOOK-PLAN" on offense or defense since Isiah Thomas FIRED Coach Don Chaney in 2003.

This Knick Team had a commercial in 2005 with a season ticket holder Fan "Spike Lee" asking, "Will the Knicks have DEFENSE this season?" several times to a card board Poster of Coach Larry Brown.
If that was'nt a message aimed directly at the Head Coach whom probably refuse to be apart of that commercial in the physical sense at the start of the season, but the commercial made its point along with the Headcoach's 23-59 season. And nothing changed for the improvement of this team since then.

Yes Layden started the cap hell but Isiah didn't do anything to stop the bleeding, instead he took a bad situation and made it 50 times worse!

well, when the coach is also the same guy who put the team together, an awful lot of blame can go his way.

Exactly!!! On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being great, as a GM get's a minus 50! As a coach he is mediocre at best.

The Knicks always had one of the highest Cap since the 1969 Championship Team however, they also had players that played up to the potential of their high salary.
Layden tried a quick-fix when forced to trade Ewing by dealing with the only part of the NBA that he knew, the Bum Western Conference at that time. And Dolan wasn't any help by making Layden trade Camby (the only reliable bigman the Knicks had at the time besides Kurt Thomas).

Every trade that Isiah Thomas made has crippled the Knicks Team worst than what the Knicks were before he made the trade.
Isiah have not made one decent trade that benefited the Knick team since he arrived.
Isiah has been left to coach these same players he traded for and ...... has been finding out that each of these players are CANCERS to the younger core of players he drafted.

If you leave Dolan out of it Isiah deserves 100% of the blame. Hes the one who brought everyone to NY. Isiah has been a terrible coach and gm. The Knicks are now a joke and hes the clown running a team full of clowns. Isiah has put together a team full of several players who belong either in the circus or in commercials for Burger King.

Good Players
Starbury
Balkman
Lee
Nate

Keepers
Mardy Collins
Wilson Chandler
Randolph Morris
Fred Jones

The Circus
Jamal Crawford
Jared Jeffries
Quentin Richardson
Malik Rose

Burger King commercials
Eddy Curry
Zach Randolph
Jerome James

I wish I could keep Scott Layden out of conversations, but he messed up our salary cap pretty bad.He gave Allan Houston a 100 million dollar contract, and he traded Patrick Ewing for Glen Rice and Shandon Anderson. He messed up the Knicks so bad, that the Knicks have been trying to rebuild ever since. You make a good point, but until we get out of this salary cap hole, he will still be someone to blame for the Knicks' cap situation.

Jerome James[/quote]

I know Shaq did some Burgerking commercials, a few years ago. lol Maybe Zach Randolph could do one for the Enormous omlet breakfast sandwich(45 grams of fat), Eddy Curry could do one for the Triple Whopper with cheese(82 grams of fat), and Jerome James could do one for the Quadstacker(68 grams of fat).
PS-those are the actual grams of fat in those sandwiches. lol

Catching up with Randolph Morris

February,10

Not much going on today, so here are some excerpts from a Q & A with Randolph Morris that ran in today?s paper.

He?s kind of become the forgotten rookie.

It can be difficult for most players who come into the league and discover they are no longer stars guaranteed playing time, so I asked how that was going.

?Yeah, it?s an adjustment for everybody, but better players than me have done it. They?ve learned from it, so I?m just going to have to wait my turn.?

And what?s he do away from the game?

?I like to play video games,? Morris said. ?They dominate most of my down time.?

For the record, his favorite is Call of Duty 4.

?I can spend close to all day on that,? Morris said.

The lowest-paid man on the roster is under contract until the end of the season. He doesn?t know what?s in store, and plans to wait until the end of the season to worry.

There is likely to be some minutes coming up in the coming weeks so the Knicks can evaluate where he ranks.

Isiah Thomas dont know how to COACH!

Remember Coach Isiah BENCHED a healthy Reggie Miller for a season.
That had to make Owner Walsh blow his top to hand Isiah his Pink Slip (after Isiah talked Jermain O'Neal into resigning).

When a Teams weakest defense is at the Guard spot that team has to have some defensive Bigmen to make up for that.
When a Team has weak defense in their Guards & their Bigmen that team has a habit of losing by 20 or more points. Was'nt that the case early in the season before Coach Isiah put Nate & Balkman in the rotation?

Randolph Morris & Jerome James would be the right Defensive Center alongside of PF-Zach Randolph defenseless talents.

Randolph Morris defense, Rebounding, and Put-Back ability would play well at PF alongside of Curry post up moves.

There is nothing wrong with playing David Lee at SF vs alot of Knicks opositions during a game with the above Bigmen lineups. Q.Richardson has sucked throughout his entire tour in a Knick uniform at SG & SF.

I would LUV to see the Running Lineup of Morris, Lee, Balkman, Chandler, and Nate out RUN alot of Knick oponents on offense/defense for 7 to 12 straight minutes of playingtime in the third quarter this season.

Isiah Thomas just relying on Curry, Zach, and Lee has minimized the fouls given to oponents scoring in the paint.
This entire season the Knicks been needing Balkman, Chandler, and Morris to crash the boards on the Defensive side of the court for rebounds & Fouls to make this TEAM Presence known in the NBA (Shotblock Highlights or Hard Fouls highlights), that's 18 fouls sitting on the bench.
I liked when Jerome James used to come into the game and pickup 2 or 3 quick fouls because it showed us Knick Fans how Knick oponents was used to this team not playing any defense in the paint since the departure of Kurt Thomas & Mutombo.
Those who always complained about Jerome James picking up quick fouls used to make me angry, because he is a BIG-BODY in the paint that must be recognized by Knick oposition even if he fouls out 20 straight games to the new rules Stern & Jackson keep adding each season.

I believe Nate Robinson had enough and confronted Isiah or one of his coaching-staff about their poor effort in Seattle.

Nate Robinson will be traded before the deadline...
