I once heard a rumor that this site was for Knick fans to talk about basketball and give their opinions about things that pertain to the team! So I decided to go out on a limb and actually talk basketball.

So....did we make a mistake in drafting Galanari? My take on it is that the kid is only 20yrs old and there is plenty of time for him to even come on at some point this season and do well for us. But I have the worst case of buyer's remorse out of anyone in the world (no lie I actually took three seperate cars back to the same dealer in a two week span of time) so I can't help but wonder who else we couldve picked up. Lets look at some nice picks behind the Rooster that would fill current needs for us.

DJ Augistine: 12pts 4 ast.-well after Duhon's game last night it is hard to argue that we really need a PG. But you have to imagine that this kid's skill and speed would've looked great in Dantoni's offense! His shooting numbers are identical to Duhon and is knocking down his free throws at a better rate. This was the player I wanted The Knicks to get this summer.

Verdict: I still like Danillo over him! Dantoni's system is to PGs as Bill Walsh's was to QB's! Duhon was a third string PG last season and has looked solid this season, I believe that we could insert just about any pass first PG in this system and it would work, so why waste a pick on one? Unless DJ becomes Chris Paul or Deron Williams I'd say we are safe.

Eric Gordon: 7pts 1.5 ast and 1 stl-Well at the time of The Draft we had more combo guards than any other team in The League so he did not appeal to me at all! But ofcourse in retrospect we could use him right now. His 7pts per game is easily 10 pts in Dantoni's system.

Verdict: A little torn, leaning Danillo; even as a healthy team our starting SG is either an under sized Nate or an aging (now all of a sudden sick) Mobley. Dantoni allows his SG to shoot, and make plays Eric likes to shoot and make plays! But players like him are not too hard to find, 6-9 players who can shoot, pass, dribble, and are athletic are not easy to come by.

Brook Lopez:9pts 7 rebs 1.7 blks: well the kid is averaging more blocks than anyone on our roster. I wrote him off in all the draft threads, and he is proving me wrong. Not at all a perfect fit to Dantoni's system, plus at the time we had Randolph and Curry who were thought to be clots in the system!

Verdict Danillo Still!-the kid gives us rugidness that we currently need but would this had been a long term smart descion? Mike and the coaching staff believed that Eddy would come back in shape this season which if he had wouldve been the type offense big man this system uses (can score at will, and will get scored on at will!).With that said there was no need for The Knicks to consider Brook too hard, nor lose too much sleep over not taking him if he does keep getting better. The only reason to fret is that he is in our division!

Final Verdict: I still like Danillo, I think the way our team plays will suit his game. I doubt he wins R.O.Y. once he comes back, but I think once he gets into the swing of things I see him making a difference for us in ways that may not even show up in the box score. I think only Derrick Rose is more ready to lead than him currently, and I think Danillo may be as good a team player as anyone.

im holding judgment on Gallo i still think he'll be a great player for us but looking at our needs and what we have

we need a big man desperatly and we have too many forwards so Lopez is my pick if the draft is re-done not because gallo hast played but because we lack a big man and Lopez is good and will be great

But once Gallo is back into gameshape he'll show us knick fans why we drafted him...

From the start of the draft I was hopeing to trade down and either get DJ or (other) Javeal MaGee. B.Lopez is looking pretty solid too...... if we had a re-do :) I think Gallo will do just fine as long as his shot is half of what they say it is.

it's Augistin.. and also, I still like Gallinari *no homo* you can't give up on him like, David West, Andrew Bynum.. and many more

Still way too early to make a decision, but if we could redo the draft I would still definitely take Gallo. He's tailor made for D'antoni's system, with his shooting and ball handling. Plus, he can become a good point forward for us, getting other players involved. I think he can help us when we start going one-on-one, and he's so versatile he can play pretty much any position. We just gotta let him get over this back thing, and give him some time to get used to the NBA game.

Yeah I agree, not to mention how many times have we seen a rookie start out hot, make the All Rookie Team and become a bit player! Too many to name!

I don't know, the limited playing time and the injury limitations have made it really difficult to make an accurate assessment of how exactly he fits. In terms of potential I still like him, for all I know he could be great but I'd like to see him get a LOT more games in before I start making judgments as to who we should/should not have drafted...It's just too tough at this point.

I thought the Knicks should have gotten Brook Lopez, but Mike D'Antoni prefers to have an Italian on his roster.

Have to see how he rebounds from his back injury.

Never knew why you don't post so much.
Everything you say is on point.

Its too early to give up on Gallinari, especially to a guy of his abillity(we know what he's capable of)

Its just a matter of him keeping his core strong and healthy.

Everyone in this forum knew I wanted Augustin or Lopez; Augustin would of been a BEAST in this system, and we could use Lopez's size; pause.

Gordon would be exactly like Crawford, he's not that special to me really.

This rookie class looks awesome as I predicted.

Good thread NNY.

Rudy Fernandez was such a steal.

Damn

Imagine a squad of

Augustin
Fernandez
Chandler
Lee
Lopez

6th man
Robinson.

Thats mad youth and potential...with a future adition of Lebron James in the future...damn you Isiah, damn you.

Everyone in this draft has look productive this season, especially Rose and Mayo...to Beasley to Anthony Randolph; even Javalee McGee has shown flashes. Ryan Anderson has been big for the Nets. Nicolas Batum was a ****ING STEAL!!! Darrell Arther is already an NBA starter and he was selected in the late first. George Hill has stepped it up.

Then you have 2nd round STEALS in L.R. Mbah a Moute and Mario Chalmbers are who defensive specialist with a lot of potential/athelicism.

Where has Joe Alexander been?

Anyway, its been a really solid draft.

lol id take rose over all of them, but those stupid lottery balls didnt go in our favor, but im content with danilo, it was pretty funny to see how lost he was in those first few games. once hes healthy and gets some more experience i think he can be like a boris diaw(the year he actually produced) in that he does a lil bit of everythin in a solid fashion, not spectacular, but solid

The Great thing about Danillo is that he has been a Pro for years and he has probably played for the most intense fans outside of NY and Philly, so he has the thick skin that other rookies dont have. If Danillo starts playing bad and the fans boo him it wount shatter his confidence like it would other rookies or young players.

More accuratley than Diaw you can say he'll be a Kukoc or Metro even compared him to Hedo with more of a handle on the ball. I don't think (but I would love it if he did) will ever become the defender Diaw is.

If there was anyone i would have picked instead, it would probably be brook lopez or dj augustin. I like what lopez is doing for the nets...there playing better then i expected and i also have to give vince carter credit too. Hes shooting a lot better so far this year and hes showing that hes got some heart. I thought the nets would be at the bottom without kidd and rj. I gotta give devin harris his props too.

Lopez-26.3mpg, 9.5ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.67bpg, 48.7fg%

Augustin-29.4mpg, 4.3apg, 42.1fg%, 39.3% 3PT, 90.2% FT

Not sure how lopez would be in our uptempo offense though....augustin would be a better fit.

Lopez is only 20 years old, new jersey got themselves a good player.

Thats exactly what i came here to say. Its unfair to give up on him this early, he hasnt even really played. From what I've seen of him hes an excellent shooter and displays leadership skills. He also seems to have more swag then the average european player. In 3 or 4 years, he could be a very good player for us.

though were all unhappy as he's been next to worthless as far as adding to our team to this point, I still think i'm happy with the pick...lookin at that video he looks pretty good, though those are his top plays ever that someone could come up with..to be honest he looked pretty discombobulated the little time we saw him play, but he's young and i don't really expect much else i suppose..nothing about him stands out to me to make me think he's going to be some franchise player like some people think; but idk enough bout him to come to a conclusion/...i think once he's healthy we'll hopefully be able to see what he can do and what he has for the future, but i personally don't think he'll be the star some people think he'll be, i think he'll be good, hopefully very good, but i don't know enough bout and from what i've seen i can't quite realistically say that given the nba today...but i'll hold my judgement till the man plays and gets in sync with the league

I think we should have done one of two things. Traded the pick to a weak team like Oklahoma for an unprotected pick next year. I believe the the top of next years draft class will be one of the best ever.

Or we should have traded down and grabed Nicolas Bartum and Serge Ibaka. Overall I think they failed in this draft. Lower draft picks where we could have gotten players with great potential could have been bought and all of a sudden we had deep pockets and little arms. It didnt make sense.

Well your first idea is extremely risky because you never can tell where a team will finsish come seasons end. So imagine The Knicks trade the number 7 pick to OK for an unconditional in this year's draft, but, OK makes a couple of moves that puts them in the playoffs or even a few games out of the playoffs, the Knicks wouldve traded a number 7 pick for possibly a lower pick. Ofcourse we all know now that OK is not making the playoffs, but, there is no telling that this past June.

Your second scenerio suggest we trade down to pick up players with a lot of potential which in essecne means we get players who are not ready to contribute now, but could be really good down the road...I say we got that already in Danillo, and I think he has more of an upside than any player you just named.

Greg Oden didnt' play a game last year and he's turning out to be pretty good. Obviously back problems are a major concern but even the very little we've seen from him has shown he has tons of upside.

His skill set fits the offense well. He has everything Tim Thomas has but hopefully he has the drive to be a good player that Thomas doesn't seem to have.

Silky smooth 6'10 guys don't come around every day, i'm happy with the pick. Augustine or a trade down woulda been good but i really have no interest in Brook Lopez and didn't like him back then and I still don't think he's anything special.
