The Knicks are Back
nice thread New New York...nice to have a list of who's gonna be available for us in 2010

there are alotta big names as we know in the Summer of 2010 like Lebron, Wade, Bosh etc but what im interested to see its what we do with the complimentary players like Harrington, maybe look at Kapono etc thats where our team will get completed

first it all starts with this year like what we do around the deadline(deal Curry?maybe Lee goes with him?) and in the summer of 2009 i wanna see what we do with Lee, and Nate will give us a better idea of who were gonna really pursue(other then James), and what our team will look like...

★The Floor General★
we need to get amare and the king if we cant get the king why not have bosh and amare and lets put up the real twin towers (duncan & robinson)

Starks

Starter
I only want one signing this summer. Bring back this years probable Most Impoved Player of the year: Trevor Ariza

Zaza Pachulia wouldn't be a bad signing for some needed depth in our front court , and Anthony Parker would be a nice long range shooter as well....... as long as they came cheap :)

Knicks4Life_1985

★The Floor General★
i dont think zaza should even be in the nba i do agree that anthony parker would be a nice fit as long as he comes cheap a real good pick up if we could add um

New New York

Quiet Storm
Why I included 2009

This is a huge longshot, but, it is realistic enough to make a post about!

There is a scenerio that puts us under the cap at the end of this season. Depending how Donnie Walsh handles The Cutino Mobley situation, his contract could come off the books after this season. Without going into all the logistics here is how it could work-The Knicks could opt to pay the remainder of this season's contract, and relieve themselves of his contract obligation for next season. If that happens The Knicks are at 60 million in cap, thats only around 1 million or so above the cap.

The next part depends in large part on one Edward Curry....Now he has not played a minute for us all season, and probably wont until he is in playing shape. So my thinking is Mike D being hard on him about his lack of conditioning may make him opt out next year. Sounds farfetched and too optomistic, why would Curry walk away from garunteed money? Rememer why he left Chicago? Scott Skiles was basically asking the same things from him that Mike Dantoni is, and he had a much better offer on the table from Chicago to remain a Bull, but turned it down not to be pushed by a demanding coach.

Catch me drift!

Or lets say Eddy does get in decent enough shape to play, he still isnt bumping anyone out the starting five, so he may opt out to go somewhere he could start. The Thunder could offer him 10 million per and still remain under cap. Making him their starting Center and a primary post option. And he would also not have to deal with a demanding fan base. OK is still just happy to have a team to call theirs, they are years from wanting to see them win!

So if if Curry leaves and Walsh plays Cutino's contract situation right, The Knicks could be at 50 million in cap next season. Ok so now all of a sudden a player like AI becomes an option this summer. We could sign AI for like 8 million per (AI is not looking to get paid, just looking to win), and still sign David Lee and Nate to an extension. Remember a team can go over the cap to re-sign current players, ofcourse we would have to re-sign them after AI. We could make these moves and still go after a major Free Agent in 2010! Not to mention w/ AI aboard we would for sure be playoff team next season, making us a much more attractive team to a 2010 Free Agent.

So here is New New York's Hypothetical team for the 2009/2010 season

Duhon
AI (Dantoni's offense makes him a MVP canidate!)
Q (should be Wilson, but Dantoni loves Q too much to sixth man him)
Harrington
Lee

Nate
Wilson
Danillo
Thomas
Jefferies

I'd say 6th in The East, but one major player from being a contender! Just replace Harrington with Amare or Bosh and maybe Duhon with TJ Ford or possibly Nash and tell me we arent a contender!

Love the iverson theory. Hope he is willing to take that low. The only thing is that his ppg average is going to have to decrease so that we can be a more efficient team. Maybe make him pg?

question

I know i sound very NBA uneducated but what is the difference between Restricted FA and Unrestricted FA?

I forgot.

metrocard

Legend
I want Roy and Lebron...we would be straight after that.

Draft Thabeet

sign Nash, Roy, Lebron....have Lee be the role player @ PF.

Bench will be Robinson, Chandler, Gallinari, Harrington.

We could be greedy and sign Bosh or Amare? Yes or no? I don't know...but Roy and Lebron together in this system with a PG like Nash...thats like 30 assist a night.

I dont know if Roy is going anywhere but Lebron can get picked up with a big man like Bosh or Amare....the Knicks are shedding so much cap space that any move seems possible when 2010 comes around.

Actually not, think about it...In any other team's offense I would agree with you completley, but Mike Dantoni's offense requires very little adjustment for scores in the backcourt. consider this.... Q-Rich has shot 54 shots in the last three games-thats an average of 18 shots per. Now he has only hit 20 of those attempts-about 35%, now take a more efficient offensive player (ie. Allen Iverson) and he will hit say 43%, he probably gets 3 more shots per game, plus he would get to the line more often because of how he plays and you're looking at about 24 ppg! I see Duhon scoring a little less, but, getting more assist per

Look if Jamal Crawford was thought to be a nice fit for this offense, imagine how AI would fit!

Scoring Breakdown
Duhon: 9 ppg 9 ast
AI: 23-25 ppg
Wilson: 15 ppg
Harrington:19 ppg
Lee:13 ppg 12 reb
Bench
Nate:13 ppg
Q:9 ppg (a role player is a better look for him)
Danillo: Not sure
Thomas: 10 ppg
Jefferies: 5pts 4 rebs

AI wants to win a championship, and this lineup wont even come close-again I say at best we woule be a real dangerous 6th seed in The East-but, the year after we would be in position to plug some nice players to take us to that level. Could that be enough to convince AI to come?I'll tell youn one thing I don't think the money is an issue with AI, I promise where ever he ends up after this season wont be because they were the highest bidder, it will be the team that convinces him they are in the best position to win a championship. The problem is that way The Celtics won immediatley last year players may be looking for that sort of over night success, so hopes of winning a title in four years may not sound sexy enough for any FA.

Good Question. But you have to imagine a player like Nash could be had for the MLE at age 38. But, Roy and Lebron would be a bit hard to pull off simply because Lebron would want 21 million his first season. Roy would probably demand 14 million per throw in 8 million per for both Lee and Nate and now we are at 56 million not to mention 23 million on the books already for that season and we are 19 million over the cap with only 9 players. Won't work.

Thats why I can live without signing Lebron!

Your missing the point. The Knicks can afford Lebron in 2010 and we need a franchise player with his skill and age to carry the team for multiple years.

Lebron, Kobe and Chris Paul are the only players that should get 20 million a year.

We NEED Lebron or some big name to help.

Lebron provides a great offensive player that is aggressive and changfes momentum in a second, expecialyl when he throws down those huge dunks.

He can defend well and is 6'8 with Nate Robinson atleticism.

He averages alot fo assists per game every year. He is also a floor general.

If you watched him in the playoffs against the Celtics....HE WAS the Cavaliers.

We have a better lineup then the Cavs did without Lebron last year. WE have scorers, athleticism to keep up with Lebron and imagine Lebron in the MIke D uptempo offense??? IMAGINE THAT. He would average 25 ppg, 8 assist and 1 block every game easy.

Lebron is everything u want in a star.

I know i sound very NBA uneducated but what is the difference between Restricted FA and Unrestricted FA?

I forgot.

Restricted free agents are obligated to re-sign with their team if the team is willing to match their highest offer.

Ex. If Lebron was a restricted free agent and the knicks offered him 100 million 6 year deal. Cleavland could match that offer and retain Lebron and the Knicks could then up the offer but CLevland could match again and stop Lebron from leaving. Good thing he will be unrestricted!
