Isiah Still "Helping" the Knicks

LAS VEGAS - Isiah Thomas said on Sunday that he has been doing OK and helping the Knicks prepare for the NBA draft, since police responded to an accidental overdose at his home last October.
Police were called to the home Oct. 24 and said they found a man passed out on the floor after an accidental overdose on sleeping pills. Authorities have not publicly identified the man as Thomas.
Thomas was in Las Vegas to tape a television appearance with Bob Knight, his former coach at Indiana, and sportscaster Billy Packer.
Thomas said that everything has been going well for him personally, and that he hasn't missed any significant time in his work for the Knicks.
"I've still been very active, seeing a lot of games and doing a lot of scouting and looking forward to helping (Knicks president Donnie Walsh) with the draft," Thomas told The Associated Press.
Thomas was fired late last season from his positions as coach and team president, but Walsh kept him on in a consulting and advising role.
Thomas said he was scouting at the Pac-10 tournament last week in Los Angeles.
Thomas mingled with a few fans, smiled for photos and signed autographs before and during the filming of "Survive and Advance" at the sports book of the Wynn Las Vegas casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
A police report released the week after the overdose said the person who called 911 believed the person who had overdosed had stopped breathing.
In the report, a police officer says he went to Thomas' home in Harrison, N.Y., and helped another officer who was administering oxygen to a person lying on the kitchen floor. Harrison is about 30 miles from midtown Manhattan.
Thomas has said it was his teenage daughter who required treatment, but Harrison Police Chief David Hall forcefully rebuked that and said he did not understand why "they're throwing her under the bus."
Thomas won NBA titles as a player with the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990, and an NCAA championship with Indiana in 1981. He joined the Knicks as the team president in 2003 and became coach in June 2006.
Last season, Thomas drew the wrath of fans in New York and was dismissed with a 56-108 record with the Knicks. Overall, he is 187-223 as an NBA coach, leading the Indiana Pacers to the playoffs in three straight years from 2000-03.

I'm actually OK with this. He's got a good eye for talent: Chandler, Lee, Nate, and I think he suggested Gallo.

Next season, keep waiting
I was a believer in Thomas at one point. I didn't expect Curry to get fat and lazy on us. Honestly I don't know what's wrong with Thomas. He started off pretty solid then things just got progressively worse. I still don't know why he ever let Lenny Wilkens go. That was the beginning of the end for the Knicks.

Thomas needs to go to Detroit. All this talk about Thomas scouting is great but I think egos are too big in NY. If D'Antoni doesn't like a player that Thomas picks, then what's the point. I think Gallinari's got potential but I would have never picked this kid in the draft. If the Knicks went for a point guard we'd be in a totally different position right now. Duhan is a second string PG, not a starter, he's proven that.

I think Thomas could end up coaching in Detroit with Herb.

Isiah Thomas does not have a good eye for talent. He got Robinson, Lee, and Chandler by accident, as part of his process of destroying the Knicks.

Actually, Isiah got Robinson, Lee, and Chandler, as a result of trades.

Nate Robinson came to the Knicks, as part of the Kurt Thomas for Quentin Richardson trade(stupid trade).

David Lee came to the Knicks, as part of the Nazr Mohammad for Malik Rose trade(another stupid trade).

Wilson Chandler came to the Knicks, as part of the swap of 2007 first round picks with the Chicago Bulls(not a smart decision).

He basically got Lee, Robinson, and Chandler by mistake, as evident by his foolish drafting from the past.

For example:

Isiah Thomas drafted Fred Jones over Tayshaun Prince, Channing Frye over Andrew Bynum and Danny Granger, Mardy Collins over Daniel Gibson, and he traded a chance at drafting Lamarcus Aldridge or Brandon Roy for Eddy Curry.

Danilo Gallinari is one dimensional. Until he proves otherwise, it was not a good draft choice.

abcd, you are talking mostly about his trades.. Isiah did pick Lee and Frye. At the time Frye was outstanding. So I say good pick, but Frye cooled off... He did pick Dijon Thompson over Jose Calderon, but that turned into Nate. He picked Balkmen which was good. Collins wasn't bad, he was more of a safe pick to go with a risky Balkmen pick. Gibson was picked 13 picks after Collins, so at draft night they were in no way similar. The guys after Chandler are nothing but CRAP. I think Isiah had no choice in the Gallinari pick...

Let's remember, Isiah got Balkman (who a lot of people on this board love), when the guy wasn't even in the Draft Pamphlet handed out before the draft. Call it a reach, but he found this guy out of no where...

Okay, so he is probably the worst coach in nba history, "allegedly" sexually harrassed a female, and overdosed on sleeping pills, but that still shouldn't take anything from his scouting prowess...

All kidding aside, he did take a chance on T-mac while others passed on him. That should count for something.
