Report: Clippers send Randolph to Memphis for Richardson

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers reportedly cleared some cap space for 2010, sending forward Zach Randolph to Memphis in exchange for forward/guard Quentin Richardson.

Several media sources are reporting the exchange. Randolph is set to make $33 million over the next two seasons, while Richardson makes $9 million in 2009-10, the last year of his deal.

Not only does the deal clear significant cap space for Los Angeles, but the Clippers will also receive an $8 million trade exception because of the salary differences.

League rules prevent the deal from being completed until next week.

Richardson has now been traded twice in a week and comes back to where his career began. The 6-foot-6 DePaul product was traded from New York to Memphis on draft night in exchange for Darko Milicic.

The 29-year-old, who was the Clippers' first-round pick in 2000, averaged 10.2 points in 72 games for the Knicks last season and holds a 11.5 career points per game average. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Clips, averaging a career-high 17.2 points per game in his last season with the club in 2003-04.

Randolph, who split last season with New York and Los Angeles, will head to the Grizzlies after putting up over 20 points a game in 50 combined contests with the two clubs. The 27-year-old has career averages of 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in 506 career games with Portland, New York and the Clippers.

Does this mean they are giving up on Lee? Can the other players on Memphis play with the blackhole double double no defense machine?

I would think that Memphis would not be interested in Lee now that they have taken on Randolph's huge contract and they also made Warrick an offer as well, so the Lee deal is off the table.
This also shows you the difference between Isiah and Walsh! Isiah would have went into panic mode the minute Memphis made Lee the offer, while Walsh remained cool and everything, for now, seemed to work out.

GOOD POINT! Honestly as potential suitors for Lee begin to drop off, he could see the number The Knicks offer go down from 8 million to 7 million.

It kinda like a high stakes version of Deal or No Deal.

Yeah. I read something on Hoopshype talking about Lee's camp wanting to talk about a deal for 5 years/60-65 million dollars, now Lee's going to be lucky to get the 4 years/32 million dollars Walsh offered him.

I mean, the only remaining team out there that hasn't already solved its need for a PF is OKC and they're looking at Paul Millsap who's clearly better than David Lee, so...yeah, he's probably going to stay here. Memphis got Z-Bo, Portland's more focused on Hedo, Detroit got Villanueva, and OKC's looking at Millsap. Only way a team could get him now is via Sign and Trade and that allows us to use package Curry and/or Jeffries' salaries out of here. Man, gotta love Donnie Walsh...he might not be a miracle worker (no such things exist), but man the guy's done as good a job as you can expect given what he's had to work with.
