McGrady hopes to stick with Knicks

It's great news.

If you think about it, I think T-Mac still has a lot left in the tank. He's had some injury issues, but who knows? He COULD return to his former self, but I highly doubt that.

However, even if he returns to half of his former self, he's still far and away better than any player we have. He's an excellent scorer and worst comes to worst he'd be a great complement to a superstar.

I view his role for the Knicks the same way I view Grant Hill's role for the Suns, except I think McGrady is going to be way better than Grant Hill

I hope so. I can understand that some people think he is over, there are enough reasons, but hell, he's still 30 years old. I want to believe he can get form. He can still have 2-3 years of top level basketball, maybe not as his glory days, but for sure at a great level.

What I don't know is, if he shows he still has it, what kind of contract would he be given? I mean, this trade is great because he has an expiring, and if he doesn't work, he ends his journey this summer. But if he proves he can still play... until what point it would be worth givin him a big contract? Do you think he'd accept a lower contract so there's enough capspace to sign 2 max FA?

T-Mac could prove to be the perfect 3rd-option compliment to WHICHEVER 2-big free agents we recruit this summer. For example, imagine this:

Sergio Rodriguez
Tracy Mcgrady
Lebron James
Wilson Chandler
Chris Bosh

Bench: Gallo (6th man, 3-point specialist), Douglas (backup PG), House or Harrington (more instant offense off the bench), Bender, Curry, Walker + two 2nd round picks (bodies to fill out the roster).

I mean, this has to be plan-A. Who would not be stoked about this. Sure, it would require folks like T-Mac, Sergio, House/Harrington willing to stay aboard on the cheap. But, of course, if Walsh brings in Lebron + Bosh, well it makes that decision easier, no?

Say they can't get Bosh... well they let Harrington-House walk, and the pursue Amare... Or bring back David Lee along with offering Tyrus Thomas a deal.

There are options.

Back to TMAC. He's made his money. I doubt there will be tremendous offers out there. Maybe playing 3rd fiddle in NY is attractive enough where he'll accept less money. We'll see.

He is more than capable of being the Artest of this team. He does a lot more than just score. If we can sign him to a reasonable contract, man we're going to have a deep team. Also happy that he's happy to be in NY, contrary to reports where he said he wants to play in Philly or Chicago. It's good to have a player in the right state of mind after a trade.

When he was healthy he could barely average about 50 games a season. I will be surprised if he can stay healthy for the rest of this year. His contract was his greatest value. Unless he is willing to take the vet minimum next year consider him a 30 game rental player.

Problem is I can't remember a guy that's had microfracture surgery that hasn't had some kind of relapse after. Either soreness that keeps them out a couple of months or in Allan Houston's case permanent retirement. He'll never be the player he once was, even he admits all the NBA mileage has taken a toll despite the fact he is only 30. And Adelman wouldn't play him more minutes because he said TMac wasn't the same player and guys were better than him.

How can you make an evaluation on a guy coming off major knee surgery like that in only 30 games?

Amare Stoudemire had microfracture surgery. He played 82 and 79 games the following two seasons.
True, but he did have a relapse that delayed his return when he initially came back. A lot of people were saying he was done citing Alan Houston, Penny Hardaway etc but he has come back strong.

D'Antoni himself said he remembers going through Amare's surgical aftermath and it was up and down, one day he would be cheering "He's back" and the next day Amare is limping around the gym.

We only have 30 days to evaluate TMac, so if he goes out with sore knees can you risk resigning him.

LMAO at him saying he would stay only if we landed two superstars and then he would take a pay cut!

He needs to realize that he isnt getting paid more than 5 million next year from any team, even if he averages 20+ for the remainder of the season!

He should look at the rest of this year as Pre Season -so to speak- and he should consider next season his chance to show teams that he can play a full season at a high level, then in 2011-2012 thats when he should be looking to re-up on his money.

not a bad idea at all....but we do not have the money to have that lineup! Our cap would be all gone just off of signing Bosh and Lebron.

Mark my words....if we sign a Max FA, David Lee is going to be the player that follows the signing....which is smart! David Lee plus a max player will cost us 26 million or so, if the cap comes in at the highest projected figure then that still leaves us 9 million to fill in some holes and a player like Marcus Camby could be had for 5 million next year.

And lets say we get Joe Johnson who could be had for 15 million next year. I think we can get David -at least I hope- to sign a 9 million dollar deal next year, with large annual increases. That would cost us 24 million, leaving 11 we give Camby 5 and that leaves 6 million.

I mean I know we have a lot of cap room, but it is not all that much!

At least the guy wants to play here and he's not making videos of himself laughing at the idea of signing a contract with the Knicks or preferring to play in another city just because that city has good weather.

We will have enough money actually...regardless of what the cap reads. McGrady is willing to take the veterans minimum if LeBron, Wade, Bosh or Astat sign with the Knicks. Look at the article on ESPN. If his play warrants more money than that, he might ask for the MLE that we have back now thanks to the trade of Jeffries. I think it's possible but I'm scared of what this off-season holds. I like the balls Donnie showed with this trade though and I can't wait to watch T-Mac's debut.

Id rather have a Tmac now and for the next couple years at a cheaper price rather than give Joe Johnson a 5 year max contract. This guy Joe Johnson is nothing special. First 2 seasons in Atlanta were horrible put up 20+ on terrible team and the team didnt start winning until Bibby Horford and Williams started to get it going.
I see NOTHING special about Joe Johnson and pray to god Knicks keep Tmac at a cheaper rate and go for Bosh or Amare and build around them if they cant get LBJ or Dwade.

im all for keeping this guy we get to showcase him now and see upfront what he can and can't do at this stage if we could sign him to a reasonable contract at about the MLE or a little more we'd be in great shape along with the superstar we get and the development of Gallo we could have a pretty nice team next season

Yes indeed now we just have to hope Dantoni doesn't piss him off before the end of the season so he will actually re-sign for cheap

David Lee, Sergio Rodriguez and Tracy McGrady = A poor man's Amar'e Stoudemire,Steve Nash and Shawn Marion.

WHHHHHHOOAAAAAA, are you saying tracy mcgrady is a poor mans version of shawn marion?. that may be the biggest joke of my lifetime. I am not even gonna spend my time trying to explain this on. I hope you can figure it out on your own buddy!
