Breaking Down Danilo Gallinari's offensive game

And after further review the stats show that the only player in the league to date with more 3 point attempts than Gallo is Aaron Brooks. Like I stated above the percentages are KILLING the "Cock" so bad he needs Viagra. I was listening to Bobby Knight this morning explaining that Kentucky lost over the week-end because they didn't have back-up plan when there 3 POINT SHOOTING failed them against the WV zone. Sound familiar????

What a great idea lets grab an aging, injury ridden PG who gets himself arrested and almost sent to prison and has a 20 million dollar contract running through 2014! Screw the 2010 plan just get Agent 0 and lose for another 5 years

Yeah sounds like a familiar story to me "Knicks overpay an ex star PG" (Marbury).

And if that 20 million dollar contract gets voided????

I am talking about next year for Chandler of course. What determination did Gallo show playing in only 28 games in his "rookie" season????(I don't know how many rookie seasons Gallo may have according to his apologists Gallo will be a "rookie" until he is 50.) As for the center, I don't know, maybe one that could block shots because we have the scoring in D. Lee. As far as Agent 0, sounds like a familiar story too me. "Troubled Star find a Home in NY"(Sprewell).

SMH @ the Arenas-idea. Maybe we could get Brian Butch from The Bakersfield Jam. He is going to be the next big thing on 5. Gallo has got swagger which is something Chandler lacks.

It's not getting voided... That is obvious to everyone. Grunfeld has already stated he wants Arenas back on the Wiz next year anyway. I doubt they are even trying to void it because it's a futile exercise.

Not to mention the Wizards were 14-30 with Arenas and a lineup of

Arenas
Young
Butler
Jamison
Foye/Haywood
Blatche
McGee
Boykins

That lineup is better than we had all year and they still sucked. How you can think Arenas is a worthwhile pickup is beyond comprehension.

BTW I don't support Gallo, I prefer Chandler over Gallo and have said so in many posts. But your arguments are not congruent.

Gallo before his February slump was shooting 40% from 3 point land and was one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. He plays aggressive defense and when he plays aggressive offense he can dominate. He reduced the 2nd best SF in the league (Anthony) production from 50 points to 28 points.

Yes sometimes he plays poorly camping out at the 3 point line, he needs to change that and develop some post game and drive more, but for a "2nd year" player he's still doing good for a lottery pick. Would I have preferred Lopez? Yes. However hindsight is 20-20.

He has played 99 career games, barely more than a full season 82 games. He missed an offseason due to injury. He's not THAT bad.

To be honest I missed your point in the midst of that boring, long-winded post. Succinct is certainly better if you are trying to make a point. But how about responding to the fact that David Lee built his game from inside out and that's why he is an All-Star and second in the league in FG%???

Right so you comment on the length of my post but not it's contents. Why am I not surprised that you can't and won't debate the merits of the topic.

As to Lee, it was me who brought him up so it is you who must address my points...again you can't. I will indulge you though...Just because Lee built his game from the paint out and Gallo is a perimeter player means nothing towards potential nor does it have any relevance to this topic. Nice diversion and pivot...now try addressing my numerous points that directly counter your whole argument.

EDIT** You continue to be succinct and wrong and I'll take as long as I need to be right. Sometimes it takes a few hundred words to make a REAL argument based on facts, stats and logic. It's easy to blurt half truths, emotional rants and logical fallacies then ignore another posters argument than actually responding in a thoughtful way.

As far as length of posts go even a self-proclaimed master-DEbater like you should know that at some point the moderator calls time.

As far David Lee goes, I took your point and turned it on its head. David Lee is an undersized-center who made the All-Star team, while Gallo is a wanna be shooting guard who is 38th in the league in 3 point % and was out of the 3 point contest All-Star weekend in the first round.

Ok it is now almost April and Gallo is 38th in the league in 3 point %. Look it up. And Gallo defensive prowess is so great he took the challange and held Melo to 34 points, not 28.

My bad, 34 then. He still defended him pretty well.

Yeah he's 38th but he hit a slump. In December/March he has been beasting. Just because he had a run of crap games doesn't make him a crap player.

I am sorry Smokes, but in what world is holding someone to 34 points defending him pretty well???? Only in the basketball bizarro world of Mike D'antoni is holding someone to 6 points OVER thier season average a good job. So Gallo has shot well the last month and back in December, but what about the other three months of this season???? My point is that if the Cock would set up closer to the goal and work on a midrange/post game, his average would go way up.

Arenas? Really? That's exactly what we need, another headcase who can't stay out of trouble and who has had 2 serious surgeries in the last 3 years...give me a break with that shit.

Who may come very cheaply if the Wizards new ownership voids Arenas' contract. Lookit, There too many teams going for too few of these top-tier Max free-agents so Walsh better come up with a better plan b than last year's draft.

Noooooooo....... Your "arguement" MADE my point, which is any player needs to have more than one way to score to be effective.

That was never your point and that only touches on one specific component of the overall debate on Gallo. Further as I clearly demonstrated, Lee did not get that jumper until his 5th year hence passing judgment on Gallo right now is premature.

I don't care how cheap he comes, unless he comes for the MLE, this team doesn't need to put any valuable resources into a guy that's been nothing but a problem child his entire tenure in the NBA...doubly so for the fact that this guy had 2 serious surgeries in the past 3 years...

I'd much rather try and get something out of my #6 pick rather than give up on him for a guy that might shoot up the locker room.

I know Gallo's game

Gallo only plays good when the spotlight is on him against star players...just like Mike D said " Gallo has to be aggressive and want the ball every night" WHen Gallo doesn't call for the ball he is basically in a fog and doesnt know what to do....especialy in this game against UTAH...Gallo sucked plain and simple and barely tried to drive towards the hoop to draw fouls.

I don't understand this kid, doesn't he know that he excels when he posts up and drives towards the basket????? He draws a foul almost everytime he drives because defenders play him so close!!! Am I talking Chinese or something?

What happened to the Gallinari that had 15 fouls shouts in one game? The one who constantly drove towards the hoop which forced defenders to play him back, resulting in open shots that went in.

Gallo does not know his game and only shows flashes of having a brain....its amazing how great he can play and playing to his strengths and then next game he is doing the exact opposite.

Is this Mike D's fault?

What the hell is said to Gallo when he is not drawing fouls and driving? "Gallo just sit on the three point line and let everyone else score, and by the way if you get the ball just jack up a shot or pass it off as if the ball is a hot potato." I feel like someone tells Gallo that quote whenever he has these horrible games where he deos nothing especially on offense.

Excuse # 22..

Keepem' comin. I love it... so f*cking funny!

Dude gives up 34 and it's called good defense...smh.

I guess we as Knick fans should bust on ourselves for drafting a complimentary player 6th overall.

Some people just love to "argue"

Oh I guess I am just stupid then to compare Gallo to Durant because they are the same height, age, play the same position, and were both lottery picks. What was I thinking.....

Its funny David Lee's name is brought into the equation and is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. David Lee is 6'9" but made the All-Star team at Center. David Lee is Mr. Double/Double and plays MUCH BIGGER THAN HIS HEIGHT while Gallo is 6'11" and thinks he's a shooting guard. It's a credit to David Lee that he has developed a reliable 18-20 foot jumper, but he does not try to make a living out there, BECAUSE THE PERCENTAGES WILL KILL YOU. If you don't think a layup is easier than a three-pointer, then you are an idiot.

It ain't about white or black, its about style of play. David Lee is the player you guys SHOULD saying is a beast, but you want him traded. You think NBA stars will be lining up to play with Gallo???? You gotta be kidding me. So keep giving Gallo free passes even though most of the guys drafted around him where and are better NBA players. I hope you guys are right and Gallo turns into the next whoever, but I have been watching basketball for a long time and all I see is an over hyped, poor man's Toni Krucow without the benefit of Jordan, Pippen, or Phil Jackson's coaching.

I am re-posting this for you TRILL because obviously reading comprehension must not be your strong suit. My central criticism of Gallo is that he makes himself SMALLER due to his style of play. Instead of setting up around the elbow or high post where could have a chance to shoot over smaller players or put the ball on the floor against bigs, Gallo camps out at the 3 point line. And just like the last play of the game last night, he can't handle the ball out there. He either rises up and shoot a low percentage jumper(2-10 last night, 1-6 from 3, 9 points in 42 minutes), or gets his rock stripped and taken because he is too tall to protect the ball against guards out on the floor. AGAIN, Gallo will never be a consistent NBA scorer until he develops some sort of low post/midrange game to help when his jumper isn't falling, which is often. David Lee took a solid low post game and ADDED a midrange jumper to that, making him more effective scorer. Now the bigs have to run at him, making it easier for him get to the rack for high % layups.

Thats fine but again you missed the point where Gallo is getting better and will add dimensions to his game as most NBA players do over time. If you would have judged Lee at this point you would claim he sucked and needed to be traded because he too was one dimensional.

Playing time, hard work and consistency will bring Gallo to another level. He has not had a chance in his short career due to injury and ball hog veterans. Avergaing 14.5 PPG in your second year is not bad at all. Yes, we would all like him to develop more of a post to mid range game but that will come as he gets stronger, learns the nuances and stays healthy. Further, spreading the floor at the 3 point line is really what he is supposed to be doing with this team of players. As our team gets better and he matures you will be singing a different tune. (or not but at least Gallo will have had a real audition)
