Dear Haters, Pessimists and Fake Knick Fans...

Dear Haters, Pessimists and Fake Knick Fans,

(I am not going to name names but you know who you are)

It is clear some of you are vested in failure to vindicate your crying, whining and the hate of our Knick organization and the 2010 plan. For nearly two years many of you have thrown borderline temper tantrums at every move this team made to shed salary. We have spent close to a decade in turmoil, lurching from one inept front office to another. This lead to bringing in overpaid ex-all stars who did not mesh well together in the hopes of turning someone elses headache into a success for the Knicks. It netted one playoff appearance and not a single playoff win. It turned our franchise into the laughing stock of the NBA and arguably the worst managed franchise in all of American sports.

Two years ago Donnie Walsh was hired to change that trajectory and wipe the slate clean in order to rebuild our team into a contender. It was impossible for this plan to happen overnight and many thought it was impossible to do it by the summer of 2010. Walsh was single minded in his pursuit and accomplished what he set out to do. (no, he never said it was Lebron or bust in spite of some assertions on this board) His plan was to rid the Knicks of as many of the toxic players and contracts as possible, breathing new life into the organization and he has done precisely that! We went into the biggest free agent summer in the NBA's history with the MOST amount of money to spend while holding on to as many young assets as possible. We went from the highest payroll to one of if not the lowest in the league in 24 short months. This feat alone is a major accomplishment and puts us back on a path of fiscal sanity after years of mismanagement.

Walsh seized on an opportunity to aquire a top 5 coach in the league knowing full well that rough times were ahead. Many of us understood that Mike D'antoni was acquired because he was the best coach available, not because we thought he would turn a team without a center, competent PG or star into a contender. It would have been nice for the Knicks to have beat out expectations and overachieve but sadly that did not happen. Each time the Knicks started to get on a bit of a roll we made a trade in order to shed salary and capitalize on the inflated value of the traded player. We should be thanking D'antoni for taking the job knowing that we were at the beginning of a 2 year rebuilding plan, not hating on him! He put his reputation and win/loss record on the line to come to the Knicks in the hopes that Donnie Walsh would do everything possible to turn this franchise around. Many in the media and on this board bought into the notion that a coach of the year winner, Olympic Gold medal winner, Euro/Italian league hall of famer who lead the Suns to back to back 60+ win seasons can't teach defense. It's laughable and anyone who cared to look past the talking points could clearly see that he is more then competent on coaching defense. He happens to be an offensive specialist and designed a completely new offensive system so his prowess as a defensive coach got swept under the rug. I have posted several videos and quotes proving D'ant understands and actively coaches defense so all these attacks are baseless. People also overstated his issues with players pinning the blame on coach while completely absolving the the player from any responsibility. People used quotes from Amare to prove their case that D'ant is not a good coach yet Amare ran back to his coach, apologized for his lack of maturity and is signing his praises. Let's be clear, Amare did not have to sign with the Knicks but chose to, knowing full well who are coach was.

So now that we signed a top 5 big in the league who is hungry to play in New York some of you still complain and whine. I was not originally sold on Amare and have even called him overrated but he is now a Knick and that means I will embrace and defend him. I strongly feel he will be dominate in NY and paired with the right players will be one of the linchpins in a title contending team. He also commands a double team and our shooters should benefit as well. People can claim he is overpaid but what are we really talking about...1-3 million a year? I for one look forward to him exploding in the Garden wearing orange and blue getting the crowd rocking! He has coutless playoff experiance including battles against the Lakers and Spurs. Most importantly he makes the Knicks relevant again and brings star power to the Garden. (we may once again have a starter repping the Knicks again in the all-star game)

The acquisition of Amare also makes us the most attractive roster available to acquire Lebron James and I firmly believe Lebron will be announcing that he is coming to the Knicks tomorrow night. I am optimistic and hopeful unlike some who rather us fail just to scream "I told you so" while ignoring that Lebron was just ONE path towards building a contender. Lebron or not the Knicks have already upgraded our roster and wiped the stench of Layden and Isiah away. We have a ton of cap space left and the flexibility of Curry's contract moving forward. That my friends is success!

Amare said it best...The Knicks are back!

I hope he comes to the Knicks, I really do... But I don't want to get overly excited like i see a lot of other Knicks fans getting these last few hours and then be let down. And I'm sure most Knick fans would agree with me that if the only big splash the Knicks do this offseason is sign stoudamire, that this offseason was a huge dissapointment.

Big splash? SO we would just sit on the cap room and do nothing else? Yes, I agree it will be disappointing compared to acquiring Bron and STAT but not disappointing compared to being capped out with Crawford and Zbo as a borderline playoff team with no hopes of improving. Anyway you slice it we will be much better off than the team Walsh inherited. Further we have OPTIONS for the first time in a decade!

You can go ahead and set yourself up for a huge disappointment. I myself will believe it when I see it.

Riley has a way of sticking it to us. The question is can we once again derail his dreams like we did in the 90's

I am not set up for disappointment because I firmly believe we are already better then the team Walsh inherited. Of course not getting Bron would be a bit of a let down but the 2010 plan is certainly not a failure. Contrast that to some who actively hope we fail in order to justify their years or complaining and crying...I'll always be optimistic and hopeful about the Knicks provided they have a chance and make no apologies for it.

You can spin it anyway you want, but the bottom line is Amar'e alone does not make the Knicks a playoff team. He is a very good player, but so was David Lee. What exactly are we upgrading here. 5 extra point per game, a few more rebounds? Yeah we are really championship contenders now. And I will tell you right now if Miami or the Nets were ever to end up with Lebron on the Roster, you might as well add another 10 years of failure onto the list for the Knicks.

So you are basically saying that with only the signing of Stoudemire, the Knicks are now more than a borderline playoff team? With just this signing alone, the Knicks will have leaped above and beyond what we have been seeing for the past decade right? With Stoudemire signing, all of a sudden Walsh's grand plan that set out 2 years ago have come to fruition? The Knicks are now on their way to becoming contenders in the Eastern Conference now and maybe the Eastern Division as well? You are crazy and all the rest of these SO CALLED Knick fans are crazy as well. The ONLY way this signing makes sense is if Lebron comes here. The ONLY way!!...

Look, I don't care what anyone says YOU ALL KNEW what Donnie Walsh was eluding to when he stepped up to the podium 2 years ago and stated his plans for the Knicks. There was no reading between the lines, there was no assuming. He was saying in 2 years we will be getting Lebron James or D'wayne Wade. And every single Knicks fan was under that same impression as well. So you making this post and others cheering for this signing WITHOUT being sure that Lebron will be signing on is being foolish. If Lebron throws on a Knick cap 2morrow night on ESPN, i'll create a thread one minute later saying how wrong and stupid I was, and How smart Walsh is... UNTIL that time though, I will remain one of the lone wolves saying that this signing was terrible akin to the Allan Houston signing... I'm sure "real" knick fans like yourself loved that signing too..

You are the one spinning pretending like Amare is going to be our only acquisition. Again...I ask, are you asserting that the Knicks either get Lebron or do nothing else? If so, do you have a link or source you care to share? After signing STAT we still have 17+ Million along with trade chips. To pretend like STAT is the one and only move if Lebron does not come is not based on anything other then you prejudging a plan not even half way through it's execution.

Yes, considering the Knicks don't have any draft picks for the next god knows how many years, that makes this free agency that much bigger. Lebron or bust in my opinion. I'm tired of watching irrelevant basketball.

You and the rest of these so called Knick fans are missing the major point, Lebron and Wade were the reason, THE ONLY reason Walsh and d'antoni were making these moves, trading 1st round draft picks, trading players for nothing, don't all of a sudden act as if they were doing it to get stoudemire and another player thats not named lebron or wade... You know you lack facts when you need to use terms like "eluding to"...I detailed what Walsh's plan is because he stated what his plans were when he was hired and Lebron was never specifically mentioned. Was Lebron EVRYONES first choice? Sure, but you first have to put yourself into a position to acquire him before you can fail or succeed at obtaining him. The plan was putting us in that position...period! There is no way that 2 years prior to a Lebron becoming a FA that Walsh would have made it his one and only plan...it's a laughable notion. The only thing a GM can do is set a goal and execute that goal to the best of his ability. Walsh did that and brought us from the highest paid roster to frontrunners in the Bron sweepstakes. Short of putting a gun to Gloria Jame's head there really wasn't more he could do and it's very possible that he does indeed nab Bron. Since he set out to make us players in 2010 and we are players in 2010 then the plan was a success.

Further, people keep acting like if we don't sign Lebron then we don't do anything else...it's idiotic to think that we would sit on that cap and do nothing to improve our team. Further it's idiotic to think that acquiring Lebron is the sole metric for success when our last "star" prior to STAT was effin Marbury! There are plenty of alternative routes to building a contender around STAT...pretending otherwise is exactly why I created this thread. Cap space and options is never a bad thing.

Lilman indeed...

1. Our draft picks are lotto protected.
2. NO, Wade and Lebron are not the sole reasons.
3. Would you rather have Zbo and Crawford and 1 and done in the playoffs?

I understand that the last 2 years were sacrifice in order to rid our roster of bloated contracts and mismatched players that at best were a 40 win/8th seed team going no where fast. I much rather be players and have a chance at Lebron then sitting on the sidelines watching the NBA pass us by.

This is an Epic Post. This needs to stickyed or something. With permission from the site, I would like to have a speacial "Starks Aint-Raving Mad this time" column to be my open letter to the knicks fan base.

I know I've been quick to call the Franchise out on its failures, most notable my utter disgust of the Marbury years, but I've been backing Donnie and MikeD from day 1.

If people on this site know your name then chances are you are a real die hard fan that's been here since the dark ages. Steer clear of all the fake fans that are about to jump on board if this LeBron thing is true. It's important to remember that nothing is official yet

We are not saying that the Knicks aren't going to do anything else, but let's be realistic there really isn't any impressive free agent out there besides lebron, wade, amare, bosch... I mean are you really gonna sit here and tell me that Miller or Felton is the Knicks plan if they can't get Lebron? Maybe if you used your brain a little bit, u would realize that the Knicks are most likely not gonna resign their most impressive player last year David Lee, because they got a slightly better player to replace him. So tell me what exactly have the Knicks done so far in this free agency that is so impressive? Slightly upgraded their PF position, big whoop.

word is lebron was on the phone with amare and carmelo last night
and melo was pushing for him to come to the knicks really hard. Peeps keep saying carmelo is pushing for this extension, but I honestly only think he is going to sign the extension if lebron goes back to clev.. if lebron comes to the knicks, and he knows with currys contract expiring there will be monney for him in NY, he wont sign the extension and we will have

lebron
melo
amare in 2011.
